Vincent Morgan Saint-Leclaire / Part Three - Introducing Mathias

Chapter 14: Vincent Morgan Saint-Leclaire / Part Three - Introducing Mathias

‘Normal Point of View’

One dark rainy and foggy night, a handsome young man was walking down the streets of London. He was tall and broad-shouldered with long golden blond hair. He walked with an air of confidence and proudly held his head high. He had just left a party that one of his acquaintances had hosted, at a popular local tavern, and was heading home.

Lurking in the shadows, a large dark figure was watching and following his prey. The evil being had been observing the young man for some time now and seemed to be getting agitated. As it stalked him, the shadow gained unnatural speed to catch up to his soon to be victim. The young man continued along his way, unaware of the tragedy that was once again about to befall him, and his beloved younger sister.

“Vincent’s Point of View”

Vincent was unaware that he was being stalked and continued along his way. He had just left the party that his friend Jared had held in honor of another’s upcoming nuptials. He hated having to leave Elizabeth to attend it, but knew that she was being well taken care of by her favorite nurse/companion.

As he walked along the street, Vincent had an uncanny feeling that something wasn’t right but couldn’t figure out what it was.

He slowed down, and looked behind him, but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. He usually wasn’t nervous like this, and decided it was probably because he had enjoyed too much ale at the tavern. He pulled the collar of his cloak up tight around his neck, to ward off some of the damp night chill and continued on his way.

“Mathias’ Point of View”

I have been observing him for some time now. I first noticed him a few weeks ago. When he passed by me in the alley, after I had just fed off a common street trollop. He didn’t see me hiding in the shadows but I was able to see him.

I liked what I saw. He was young, handsome and strong. It had been a couple of centuries since I have come across one that took my fancy like this particular human had. I was ready. I had been alone for too long and it was time. I wanted a new companion and my choice was made. It would be him. I made my decision and decided to follow through with it this night.

I saw him entering the familiar alleyway at the end of the road, and knew that if he reached the other side he would be gone for another night. I quickly followed him and made my strike.

‘Vincent’s Point of View’

I suppose I should have trusted my instincts but I was young and rash. If I had known what would befall me this night, I would have chosen another route. I entered the familiar alleyway, which was a shortcut, that would lead me to Cummings Street and my home where Elizabeth was waiting.

As I walked along the dark passageway, I had an uncanny feeling that someone was behind me. “You are being foolish Vincent.” He told himself. “Stop acting like a frightened child.”

I started walking faster. The clicking of my boots echoing loudly off the stone walkway and brick walls, and my labored breathing, were the only sounds I heard as I continued along my way. I could see the lights now at the end of the alley, beckoning to me and I hurried along even faster. Finally, I was there, just a few more steps and I would be on the road that led to my home. “I am almost there Elizabeth. Soon I will be home and reading to you out from your favorite book.” Vincent thought.

Then it happened..............

I was grabbed by strong arms from behind and pulled into a hidden alcove just inside the alley. I am not a weakling by any means and know how to defend myself. But whoever this being was that held me, he had inhuman strength. I struggled and fought. I kicked and bit. I yelled and swore. My assailant easily overpowered me. He threw me up against the cold stone wall and it was then that I saw his face. It was what nightmares were made of.

“NO!.......” I yelled, trying unsuccessfully to push him away and off of me.

He leaned into me, smiling, his long fangs shining in the moonlit night.

I was paralyzed with stark cold fear. As I watched him open his mouth, and then move his head towards my neck, where he proceeded to sink his sharp canines into my soft flesh.

Oh, the pain was unbearable. I could feel him sucking and drinking the blood from my body. Elizabeth, I thought, my sweet little sister. I would never see her again. What would happen to her now? I promised I would protect and take care of her for the rest of her life. Why was this happening? What would become of her?

I felt myself growing weaker as he continued drinking my life blood. I could feel my heartbeat slowing. My skin was getting clammy. I was slowly losing my vision. My body started to slip down to the ground but he continued to hold me in his arms as he was still feasting on me.

The last thing I saw before I died were the red eyes on the face of a red-haired monster who was looking at me with amusement in its eyes.

“What the hell?” I thought, as I felt myself die that night.
