Chapter 43- Beginning of the end: Beras' Tower

I would like to thank Falcon for her lovely reviews throughout my story. I am thinking of writing a sequel to this story, but certainly not right after it\'s done. Maybe a sneak preview in the Epilouge...

Next chapter, here!

Chapter 43

The sun shone brightly within the castle halls. Guards stationed all around stood still, silent and unmoving. A person was walking past them, his movements suggesting he had gone for a pleasent walk around the garden. The guards seemed to pay him no mind as he walked past them, approaching a door and entering. Inside were three beds, all occupied, and a wardrobe for clothing. A few nightstands had been placed, but little else was in the room. As the man closed the door, the sound seemed to awaken one of the occupients there, as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.

\"What\'s... where am I?\"

\"Your awake at last John Aaron.\"

John rubbed his eyes some more to see if he could find where the sound came from. \"I\'m alive?\" Shaking his head, he looked to his companion. \"Midas!?\"

Sitting on a chair near him was Midas, wearing the same clothing he always wore. \"Glad to see you remember me.\"

\"Where am I? What am I doing here? Why are you still here? Where are-?\" John said almost all at once.

\"Calm down. You\'ve been out for almost ten days.\"

\"Ten days!?\" John said shocked.

\"Yes. Once the Dark Gate was sealed, your bodies had weakened to the point of death. I thought you had lost your lives in the attempt. Then a portal had appeared, similar to the one that brought us to the Dark Gate\'s entrence in the first place. The people immediately gathered you all up and took you to the castle where you and the others have been resting.\"

With that, Midas pointed ot the other two beds. John looked and saw in the nearest bed, Jessica, who was sleeping peacefully. In the far bed was Aivon, silently breathing. John let out a sigh of relief, amazed that they had survived the incident. \"Where are the keys?\"

\"They scattered, far away. It will more then likely be that no one shall ever find them, and even if they did, it\'s possible that their use will have long been forgotten.\" Midas said, reassuring him.

\"But what about you? I thought once the Gate sealed, you\'d vanish.\"

\"I thought so too,\" Midas began, taking a moment to gaze upward. \"But I didn\'t. I don\'t know why though. I am still bound to my master, who lies in the void. I am his puppet. Yet, I have not disappeared back into that void. Nor do I ever wish to go back.\"

\"Maybe it\'s cause you don\'t want to go back, that kept you from going there in the first place.\" John voiced aloud.

\"Perhaps. In any case, the king wishes to speak to you all, once your all better.\" Midas stood up and walked to the door. \"But it\'s time for me to depart.\"

\"Where? Where will you go?\"

\"I will journey to see more of this world. My master may lack a soul, but I still have a will, and I will take advantage of it in any way I can. Goodbye John Aaron. I hope one day our paths will cross again.\" With that, Midas walked away and out the door.

Later that day, Aivon had awakened, but it wasn\'t until the next day before Jessica woke up from resting her wounds. Once they had all been dressed and fed, they all went into the king\'s chamber together.

\"John, Jessica and Aivon,\" King Uzaos began, \"This kingdom owes you much. You saved this kingdom and this world. We are truely grateful for your actions. And John Aaron, we wish to apologize for our behavoir earlier. We were wrong to treat you in such a way.\"

\"Well, Iguess since they forgave him...\" Aivon began, but Jessica intervined.

\"Who told you about all this?\"

\"A man named Midas, who wore a black cloack and scarf. He told us this before departing.\"

Jessica and Aivon seemed surprised by the news, but John only nodded. \"In that case, we must be off.\"

\"Can we not convince you to stay? I\'m sure we can offer you a stay here in the castle.\"

\"We can\'t stay. This journey isn\'t over yet. We still have one last thing to do.\" John explained.

\"In that case, I bid you all farewell. You are welcome to this kingdom anytime.\" King Uzaos nodded to them and bade them goodbye. Some of the guards also acknowledged them leaving, but one or two made sure to focus more on their jobs then them.

Once they were outside of the castle, Aivon turned to John. \"You didn\'t seemed surprised to see Midas was still around.\"

\"He came to see us yesterday. He left though. I don\'t know where.\"

\"In any case, what else do we have to do? We beat Hieas, re-sealed the Dark Gate and saved the world...\" Aivon said, ticking down.

\"Beras\' Tower, right John? You have to settle the score with him.\" Jessica said.

John nodded and stopped. Once they had reached outside of the city walls, they saw him, Beras, standing in their way. \"Well well... John Aaron. Your still alive? Amazing... then again, I should have known, considering what you\'ve able to accomplish.\" John gripped his fists tight. \"In any case, I\'ve come to invite you. I know what your thinking, and I admit, this is getting boring. So I agree, that we should settle things once and for all.\" Beras turned and door appeared in front of him. He opened it and stepped through.

\"Alright, I\'m going.\" John said taking a step foward.

\"We are going too.\" Jessica said.

\"This is my fight. Not yours Jessica. I don\'t want you to get hurt again.\"

\"Yes, it is your fight John.\" Aivon said. \"But, we wish to be there for you too. Besides, the journey is almost over... I want to be there when I see it end.\"

John nodded and together they stepped through the doorway. They were back inside the circular room, with various doors leading out into who knew where. And in the middle was the spiral stairway. They all set out and climbed up, heading into the darkness and watching as the floor soon was out of sight. Once again, at the top, was the door into the room that Jophn had fought Beras in once before. They stepped thoguh and readied for what could happen. Beras was standing opposite the door his back turned to them, looking out the window over the village that John had lived in.

\"So it begins... How fitting that this place be your grave. Your journey began here, and so it shall end here. And now...\" Beras said turning and raising his hand. \"Let your final battle begin.\"
