This chapter is short, sorry, just moving back into life for the girls!!
Chapter 18 – Friends Are Forever
Mr. Tennison dropped Shai off last, the two of them saying sweet words and obnoxious phrases that only the two of them enjoyed while driving towards her apartment. He was leaning over, to give her a shallow kiss goodbye, when both pairs of eyes spotted someone sitting on the front stoop of the apartment building, off to the corner where no one would be interrupted while walking in. Shai turned, and at first did not recognize the bowed head full of hair that had been shredded so unkindly, but then a surprising pair of aquamarine eyes met hers and they both smiled at each other mutually.
“I will see you at school, Mr. Tennison,” Shai said shyly, stepping out of the car, her bag already in her hand.
“Have a good day, Shai,” Mr. Tennison said with as much professional dignity as he could muster. He was not feeling very professional, watching her small ass skip away towards the friend on the front stoop, but even a lecherous teacher who had coveted his best tennis player’s virginity knew when to leave two girls to themselves.
Shai stepped up to Fuji, and without hesitating sat down beside her. Shai waited a few beats before saying, honestly, “You usually go to Yuki first when your mom gets like this.” She glanced at Fuji’s hair forlornly and let out a sigh. “Though I could fix that much better than Yuki could.”
Fuji smiled softly, her eyes clear of the sorrow and tears she had felt just the day before. She looked to her friend with a knowledge of more than she should, and just smiled and spoke sweetly. “I am always afraid to burden you. I’m afraid to burden Yuki, too, but she has such an optimistic outlook on life.”
Shai nodded. Neither spoke about it. If Fuji wanted to talk about it she would open her mouth and speak. Shai was great at listening, but horrible at asking questions. It was just a natural part of her life.
Shai took a good look at Fuji, kind of surprised to see the girl looking so… unkempt. The jeans were too terribly big for her, and obviously men’s, while a hoodie hung loosely around her body. This was not Fuji wear. Even at Fuji’s most casual she was always dressed perfectly and presentable, while not too nice to attract the lascivious attentions of boys.
Shai reached into her bag and fished out her cell phone. She brought it up and started flipping through the screens. “I know why you didn’t go to Yuki’s,” she told her friend.
Fuji looked to Shai curiously. Shai held the cell phone up to Fuji’s face so she could see the text message from their best friend. YUKI: Bad night! Sorry couldnt make it 2 game. Nakago in jail. Explain when u get back!
Fuji blinked, surprised. Shai was more surprised Fuji did not know. “You didn’t know?” she asked cautiously.
Fuji shook her head. “My mom shattered my phone,” she said honestly. “I have no real communication anymore.” She threw a hand dramatically across her forehead and yelled, “The horrors!”
Shai giggled and reached out her hand to her best friend. “Come on, let’s go fix your hair,” Shai offered her friend.
Fuji began to follow her friend up the stairs towards her apartment she shared with her father, a great smile on her face. “So,” she began, knowing no polite way to begin this conversation, “are you going to tell me how long you have been sleeping with Mr. Tennison?”

When the Oshidori family, minus both eldest children, walked into the police station the officer handling their complaint and entire case was standing at the desk filing paperwork. A five foot three woman who weighed one-hundred pounds soaking wet, with brown eyes and brown hair. She would seem normal, and almost forgettable, until looking into those brown eyes and seeing nothing but strength and beauty. She was intimidating, even with her small fragile stature, and she had been the one to make Nakago finally go into his holding cell while he fought them in this town as he had in Osaka. She was positively frightening, and yet incredibly kind.
“Officer Pop,” yes, her name was Pop, “it is good to see you again,” Mrs. Oshidori came in smiling. She had washed her face and scrubbed away the redness of her eyes and cheeks. She looked now to be the picture perfect mother who would do anything for her family.
Officer Pop gave a kind smile, her kindness only offered to this part of the Oshidori family. When Mrs. Oshidori mentioned Nakago’s name, and began a description of what they thought was best for him, Pop’s expression went from pleasant to haggard, her anger outweighing her love for the rest of the Oshidori’s.
“If that is what you wish,” Officer Pop began, “then I can not deny you that. He is still seventeen, still a minor, and since his obstruction of justice and the law was against his own family, it is your choice. I recommend he is put someplace where he does not have contact with his sister’s… at all.”
Yuki shifted from foot to foot nervously. She felt like she was betraying her sister, but she would gladly not see Nakago for the length of time he needed to recover. She never really had the best relationship with the older boy, and now that he had attacked her, and her sister, she wanted him just gone for a while. Yes, she wanted her family back. She loved the way her parents looked when they were gazing upon all three children with love. They were happiest when with all three of them.
Yuki wanted happiness, and her optimistic point of view knew that Nakago would come out recovered. She just did not really want to step on toes and be in the midst of his anger while he was recovering.
How would Kaori feel? Would Kaori be able to cope?
Yuki sighed and fell back into her chair while her parents walked into the back with Officer Pop.
Life was never going to be the same.
