Demon Love Story
Mistakes
For days, Christian did not eat, did not sleep and really did not move. He neglected nearly every aspect of his life and if it were not for Heart bathing, dressing, and feeding him, he would have wasted away. The other courtesans all stopped by to comfort him, but two weeks passed and he did not get any better.
While Christian napped, Heart complained to Lazerus.
“I don’t understand! Why isn’t he paying me any attention?!”
Lazerus crossed his arms and thought about this. “Perhaps it was a mistake to get the noble killed…if he continues to go on like this…he will perish. If he doesn’t eat, he will die.”
Heart cursed and cuddled the ermine Argos had given him. “Damn it…”
Upstairs in the main room, Christian held Argo’s knife. He smoothed the blade along his skin, enjoying the cool feel of steel on flesh. Without a moment’s thought, he began to cut lines in his arm. When he was done, they made the letters in Argos’s name.
“There you are…” he purred to the running blood. “You’re mine forever too Argos…”
The blond sighed and began a similar but messier process on his other arm when Lazerus appeared.
“Christian –What the Dark Goddess!” He snatched the knife from Christian and the blond screamed in agony and rage.
“No! Argos!” He jumped to snatch the knife back, but the demon in man’s form stopped him.
“I will not have you dead!” He healed the cuts on Christian’s arms and erased the scars. Christian twisted away from the demon, grabbed the knife and cradled it in his arms.
“Get away from me you disgusting creature! I hope you get exorcised!”
“Your noble is dead! –.”
“Get out!” Christian narrowed his eyes. “You think I don’t hear you and Heart talking?! You think I don’t know what you do with him!? I’m not stupid…I just don’t care anymore.”
Heart came upstairs. “Christian, Tannin got some mangoes again –.”
Christian stood up and went over to his charge. He took the ermine from him.
“Hey! Wha—.”
“Heart, I don’t want you anymore.”
“What?” the boy was clearly confused.
“You heard me. Go room with someone else or ask for your own rooms.” He went over and took a heavy metallic box from his shelf. He thrust it at Heart. “Go.”
Heart stared at the box and then back at Christian. “But –but Christian! I love you too! –.”
“You used to be so sweet and innocent…you used to be my pure Heart…my heart…but now…you and that demon can go.” Christian disappeared into the back and Heart began to cry and gather his things, cursing Lazerus the whole time who merely watched for a time then left.
Heart took his things to Corsica’s rooms and the woman readily took him in.
“What happened?”
“His stupid nobleman died and he says that I’m not sweet anymore! He hates me!” The boy cried into Corsica’s arms and she held him.

Christian noticed the sun was going down and decided to take a bath. The Madam had lost enough money already and it was time to get back to work. He brushed his hair to a lustrous sheen, braided it in a tail that fell half way down his back, put on his golden yellow silk pants and went downstairs to the front desk.
Deirdre saw him and smiled. “Are you back now?”
“The Madam has lost enough money…and…he won’t be coming back.”
The redhead kissed his cheek. “I’m sorry too.”
He nodded. “So, what’s going on?”
“A ship just came in way down in Dajara and…the merchant’s convention is here! Look for lots of business!”
“Sure Dee Dee.” He jumped up and sat on the counter. “Donovan, Tannin, Arlo, and Remy are all so young –.”
The redhead giggled. “Sure…Remy? Arlo? Please. They chase the other girls. And please, twenty-six is not old. Fatima’s thirty!”
His eyes widened. “What!?”
They laughed just as Heart walked into the lobby. Christian let the smile linger on his face.
“Are you ready to work Heart? A big convention just came to town.”
The boy didn’t answer and Deirdre looked puzzled.
“What? Well, good for you Heart!” She patted him on the shoulder and smiled. “You’ll bring in a lot of gold! Right, Chrissy?”
He nodded. “You’ll be fine Heart.”
Heart went over to the blond and hugged him. He started to cry and Christian pushed him away gently.
“No Heart.”
“I’m sorry –.”
“No Heart.”
The boy looked at both of them and tugged at his loose braid. “You said I’d never to…”
“Then don’t and when Madam discovers you’re siphoning off of us…she’ll get rid of you.” Christian hopped off the counter. “You’ve watched me for a long time. You know what to do.”
He waved them goodbye and went back upstairs. He decorated his room and sat on the bed.
It was time for the work night to begin.
