Chapter 13
I was in my room one hot Friday afternoon, working on a journal entry for my environment class. My mom came into my room, holding out the small portable phone.
I raised an eyebrow," Who is it?"
She shrugged, “I don\'t know. It\'s a girl."
I took the phone from my mom and sat up on my bed," Hello?"
"Hey! It\'s Sadie! Are we still on for tonight?" She asked.
"Umm...yeah. I guess. I had almost forgotten," I said honestly.
"Well once you go, you\'ll never be able to forget!" She stated.
"What time, then?"
"How about you come to my house like.....right now and then we\'ll leave all together at seven, okay?"
"Now?" I asked.
"Sure. Oh, and bring the clothes you want to wear tonight. Logan says your brother\'s got some interesting clothes. Why don\'t you ask him?"
Yeah, ask Robin to borrow clothes. Not happening!
"Well, I\'ll figure something out."
She gave me directions to her house, which was only a block away. I got up from my relaxed position on my bed and went downstairs to the next level. It was quiet in there. Both the twins were out for the night. Ren had went to the park to play a game of basketball and I wasn\'t sure exactly where Robin was. I lingered in the doorway of their room for a moment, checked to see if anyone was around and finally entered. This was crazy.
Their room was pretty clean, as usual. Robin\'s a clean freak and always yells at Ren when he\'s not. I could tell which side of the room Robin\'s was by his bright colors and almost feminine bedspread. Unlike my closet, which was attached to the bathroom, their closet was twice as big and was hooked onto their bedroom. I looked around one more time before entering their closet and closing the door behind me.
"I can\'t believe I\'m doing this," I mumbled to myself and switched a light on.
Inside the closet I could see where Ren\'s clothes ended and Robin\'s began. Ren would still wear bright colors in more masculine colors like red, green or blue. But, Robin didn\'t care what color it was. It could be pink and yellow and he\'d wear it. The twins were a little shorter than me, but our torsos were all thin. I\'m sure his clothes would fit me.
I\'d never seen a guy with as much clothes as Robin had. He took up 3/4 of the closet, hardly giving his twin brother any space at all. I sorted through his clothes, finding most of them too feminine for my taste, until I came upon a green and blue peasant shirt. It was bright green on the bottom and blended into blue at the top, making it seem more like the ocean than ever. Silver sequence lined the collar and it dipped down low in the front, clearly meant to show off the chest. I pulled it off the hanger and then searched for pants. He had so many pants.
I had a lot of denim in my closet and he had mostly suede in a variety of colors. After going through them for a while, I found a pair of dark blue suede pants. Instead of having a giant flare at the bottom, they were only boot cut. I could handle that. I figured that was good enough. I stuffed the clothes in a messenger bag similar to Ren\'s and headed out to search for Sadie\'s house.
Finding Sadie\'s house wasn\'t too hard. She lived relatively close. I rang the doorbell once and she came up quickly to the door. She was wearing a slinky red shirt and tight black pants. Her calico colored ears peeked out from the top of her hair and her tail somehow found a way out of her tight pants. Her hair wasn\'t done yet, but at least she was dressed.
"Oh my God! You\'re here! I wasn\'t sure if you\'d come or not. Logan\'s not here yet, but I\'m trying to do Beth\'s makeup. Come in," She said, moving to the side and letting me into her contemporary styled house.
I followed her inside and we went into her room where Beth was sitting in a chair, staring at her reflection. Her makeup was exotic and consisted of bright purple eye shadow and red lips. She turned around in the chair to look at me.
"What clothes did you bring?" She asked.
I pulled out the shirt first and held it up. Sadie took it from me and held it against my chest, “Wow. It\'s perfect. Goes with your eyes!"
"It\'s my brother\'s," I said.
"He\'s got good taste, then," Beth said and took the bag from me, pulling out the pants, “Good match."
"Logan should be here any minute now," Sadie said.
I sat on Sadie\'s bed while she did Beth\'s makeup. She looked like a totally different girl all dressed up. The girls had definitely gone to the extremes with makeup and clothes and I wonder if everybody else did the same thing. The doorbell rang not much later and Sadie ran down the stairs to the first floor to answer it. I could hear Logan and Sadie laughing all the way back up the stairs.
"How do I look?" He asked with a huge grin on his face. He shimmied over to Beth and leaned against the wall like a model.
She smiled and shook her head, “I can\'t believe you actually wore them!"
It was clear was she was talking about. He wore a tight, midnight black leather pants that showed off everything he had. His shirt was dark red and the buttons were open down the front.
"You dared me to wear them...and to buy them!" He said.
"Well, you\'ll definitely impress them tonight, Logan. I\'m afraid you may get some stares from both genders wearing an ensemble such as that," Sadie said.
"That\'ll be great. Guess what? I actually brushed my tail. It sucks being a long hair. I shed all over my mom\'s couch and she gets mad!" He said, mostly to me.
I just kind of stared at him for a moment. That was about the strangest remark I had ever heard.
"So, Rave, what did you bring to wear tonight?"
Beth held up the shirt and Sadie held up the pants, “Looks great with his eyes. I don\'t think he\'ll have any problem finding someone to dance with tonight!"
"Well, I never doubted that! Especially with us around. We\'ll be the life of the party!" Logan said," Go get dressed, Raven. We need to get going. I was kind of late."
I got dressed quickly and the girls cornered me in the bathroom," What?"
"You need some finishing touches," Beth said," Something\'s missing."
"Bracelets!" Sadie said," Everyone wears them, even the guys. You should too."
Beth went back into the room and came back with a handful of bracelets in brown, green, teal, and blue tones. One of the girls grabbed my wrist and put them on.
"Okay. That\'s better. You ready? I\'m ready. Logan\'s ready. Let\'s go!" Beth said.
We walked to the club. It was the same club that Robin had pointed out a week ago. It was bright red and bustling with young people.
"Get your ID out. They don’t want underage or over aged kids in this place," Logan said and pulled out his wallet from his back pocket.
We were carded quickly and I noticed the bouncers at the door. I was ushered inside, following Logan close. The music was loud, blaring in my ears kind of loud. The club had been open for an hour already, so it was filling up quickly. Techno music was playing and everyone was dancing. The only tables were around the small bar area, but everyone was on the dance floor.
Sadie had been right about how people danced. Everyone was crowded together out there. No one cared who they were dancing with. It was all just fun. Guys were yelling and dancing with each other. Groups of girls grinded against each other. Everyone was having a great time jumping around to the beat and singing to the songs they knew.
It struck me as odd to see so many long cat tails and perky ears in the crowd. Surely it would sound stupid to them, but to me it looked strange. I felt someone\'s hand on my arm and looked over to see Sadie pulling me towards the crowd. We moved to the center of the dance floor and the other two followed. She put her hands above her head and began dancing to the quick beat.
"Don\'t just stand there, Raven," I heard Logan say from behind me.
Suddenly I felt his hands settle on my hips. He was still behind me and had pulled me up against him.
"Logan-"
"Shh...it\'s not called a dance club for nothing," He said close to my ear.
The girls offered no help and just laughed, “Really, you should dance with him. He won\'t get too dirty. At least he doesn\'t with me." Beth said.
I wanted to tell her that was because she was a girl. So naturally, I was now afraid to move because another man had his hands on me.
"Oh Geez. If you won\'t dance with him, then dance with us!" Beth said.
I rolled my eyes when both girls grabbed my wrists and pulled me to them. I eventually settled down after dancing with the girls for a while. It felt...safer. I glanced up into the crowd once and saw a pair of ears in a slightly unusual shade of orange. I squinted, wondering who else would have coloring so similar to my own. It took a second or two to sink in before I realized who it was - Robin.
I didn\'t know it at the time, but Logan had been staring at me, when I noticed my brother. He caught my eyes the second I knew it was Robin. Something about this scene wasn\'t right, because Robin wouldn\'t come alone to something like this. Was Ren with him, or even Rhea? Who would come?
"Justin\'s with him," Logan said suddenly.
Oh my God. My brother had a date. And that date just happened to be male.
