Chapter 42- Renewed Promise
Ok trust me, it\'s almost over... just a few more chapters and an Epilouge and it\'s done. So as cliffhanging as this is, it\'s not the end people! Time to tie up all the loose ends...
Chapter 42
Midas stood before Hieas, although there seemed something different about it. Hieas, laughing over his victory, didn\'t seem to notice his presence before him. Suddenly, a black bolt of lightning shot down between Hieas and Midas. Fro the flash was a black creature. It\'s eyes glowed lavender as it seemed to gaze at it\'s surroundings. It appeared to be formless, but closer examination made it look more like a human-shaped figure, only blured and dulled. It was if it had skin, it would be constantly moving around it\'s body.
Hieas gazed to this creature in silence. \"Ahhh... a warroir from the void. Crush them!\" Hieas pointed to Midas, who he had just noticed was standing in his way. The creature seemed to gaze upon Midas for a moment, as the two beings stared each other down. Suddenly the creature turned to face Hieas. \"What are you doing!? Obey me!\"
\"Kill him,\" Midas spoke, in a cruel and inhuman voice. The creatured bounded foward without hesitation, reaching back with it\'s \'arm\', which transformed into curved blade-like form. Having no axe to defend himself with, Hieas tried to strike back, only to howl out in pain as the blade-like \'arm\' easily sliced through Hieas\'s demon protection. Hieas was knocked back and stared down Midas. But Midas no longer seemed to be himself.
John watched as Midas walked foward, his movements no longer like that of someone ready for battle, but like a predator ready to crush and devour it\'s prey. \"Hieas... You who sought to free him... you shall be crushed by the very power you hoped to command.\" With those words another bolt of black lightning shot down, this time striking Hieas.
\"No... Noooooo!!!!!\" Hieas cried out in pain as his body arched up into the sky. Suddenly his body began to fade and disappear into dust. \"No.... all my dreams... crushed... My... my empire...\" Within the next minute, Hieas vanished completely.
\"Fool...\" Midas shook his head. \"Go back. Tell him I will see him soon enough.\" The creature seemed to understand, for he turned on the spot and vanished back into the nothingness. Midas watched it go and turned to see John, Jessica, and Aivon staring at him.
\"What... what are-\" John started but Aivon made a move first.
\"I should have known! You weren\'t human at all! But your not a demon or an angel, so what the hell are you!?\"
\"I shall explain everything. You see, I am only servent, a puppet to be used. Centuries ago, after the great entity was sealed away, the seal around the Dark Gate weakened. It slowly grew weaker and weaker, until finally, the entity could send a bit of his energy into this world, in the shape of me. I was sent here, to study the humans and gather the keys to the Dark Gate. However, I could not even touch the keys, let alone use them to revive my master. So I had to use others in my place.\"
\"The seven demons... you tipped one off and then they gathered...\" Jessica said disbelieved. \"I get it... you promised them they could control the most powerful being to ever exist, in order for the world to be theirs, even when you knew it was impossible from the beginning.\"
\"Exactly. That was my original plan anyway. However, something happened to me while I stayed on this world, devoid of my master to control and guide me...\"
\"And what was that?\" John asked, nervous about the answer.
\"What do you call something without a soul? Something that doesn\'t have a reason to exist, just a will to keep existing? That was my master. He lived like any other being, but he lacked a soul of his own. This thought consumed his very being. It was this reason why he hated humans, he hated any other living thing, and why he detested this world. It was full of a life he knew he lacked. It mocked his existance just by being there. In his hatred and rage, he vowed to destroy it all and create a world where he would rule, a world for the soulless. And I, when I was sent into this world, lacked a soul as well.\"
\"I see... that must be why I couldn\'t tell how you stemmed your power and what drove you foward. It wasn\'t that I couldn\'t tell what kind of aura you had, but that you didn\'t really have an aura to begin with. But even still, I sensed... something about you.\" Aivon said.
\"Yes. While I could never have a true soul, I gained... something else. A will of my own. Without the presence of my master to guide me, I began to think and act on my own. And I soon saw just what this world had to offer. I saw what my master hated most, and knew that I had made a mistake. I began to open myself to this world. But I couldn\'t go back on the plan I set into motion. I felt as if there was no way left to stop it, until...\"
\"The seer.\" Jessica said.
\"Exactly. When she told me, I had my doubts at first. I thought no one could possibly stop what had been started. Even when I met you John Aaron, I didn\'t believe in your strength. However, when I saw you exit Atrois\' castle with Aivon alive, I began to rethink my original opinon of you. I blocked the mountain road to make sure you met Karen-\"
\"That was you!? You made us go through all that snow and everything?\" Jessica said.
\"Yes. And now, you must save this world from it\'s doom. You see, while the Dark Gate is free to open, it cannot yet do so. The entity still needs another piece. It needs me, and I will not go without a fight. Which is why you three must re-seal the gate.\"
\"But how? How can we do it?\" John asked confused.
Midas pointed to the three orbs, still in midair and now have lost all but the tiniest spark of light within them. \"The orbs are drained, but not yet gone completely. You must use all your power to reignite the flames once again.\" Midas gazed upward into the void. \"When the lights are back and the Dark Gate is re-sealed, I will no longer exist in this world. I will have gone on.\"
John and Jessica nodded, while Aivon merely looked away a bit, before returning his attention to the orbs. \"What about us? According to the legend, the three who first sealed the Dark Gate lost their souls and lives. Will the same happen to us?\"
\"I don\'t know. All I know is this. If you fail, I will have no choice but to return to him. And then this world is truely doomed.\"
\"Let\'s do this.\" John took his position under the orb of green flame, while Jessica took her\'s under the orb of blue flame, leaving Aivon to take his place under the orb of red flame. \"You guys, listen. If we don\'t make it through this, I wanna let you all know, it\'s been great meeting you both.\"
\"The same here John.\"
\"I may not live to see my love again, but it this means protecting her from destruction, then so be it. It is worth the sacrifice.\"
All of the nodded and reach up their hands. John raised both his hands outward, as if trying to grab something out of reach. He let his magic flow in him, loosen for what he must do. Jessica raised her hands in more of a giving way, as if offering the sky something of herself. She closed her eyes, and remembered her past. Aivon raised a single claw to the sky, as if to show he was defying someone by not raising both. He thought of his father and mother and how he came into his whole existance, a half-demon who risked all to save a person who may not love him...
Green, blue, and red lights shot out from the three and struck the orbs. With all of them glowing, each one send out sets of lights, creating a triangle-shaped multicolored light. John felt as if his body was starting to wear and resist, but he kept on pushing. He knew that the others were also feeling the same, but they to pressed on. His body soon tired as if put under terrible stress, but he remained standing, just as three more shots of light came out of the orbs and headed toward the void. They looked like they struck some invisible barriar, until a loud cry was heard. So inhuman was the cry it could not be considered angelic or demonic, but something beyond the concept of this world, beyond the limits of mankind.
And the void vanished, gone as if it never existed. The three orbs shot outward, scattering themselves from each other, as if they could not stand each other\'s presence. John fell foward, his mind shutting down, his eyes closed. Jessica and Aivon too fell foward, their arms still outstreached to each other, so close to touching but never making contact. Less then an inch apart were their fingers from touching, as if the fact they couldn\'t hold on to each other for survival and comfort mocked them.
A bright light soon filled the room, coming from nowhere as it took all who were there in that room back to the outside, away from the destruction of this place, away from the pain and sufering that all started and ended here, away from the darkness of demons to the light of the outside....
