Any emails to me need to include AFF in the
subject line otherwise they will be deleted.***

Warning for this chapter: This chapter seriously deals with adult themes, and not of a sexual manner. It is meant to be realistic, so if I screw up please let me know, I\'m working mostly off research. The senarios below are fiction and not meant to belittle anyone in anyway shape or form.

Desimir stared at the closed door, regretting the fact that the night was over so quickly. He really didn’t want it to end anytime soon. It had been a while since he’d felt so strongly about another man. Wandering back to the bar, he poured himself a few fingers of whiskey and settled down on the couch, letting his thoughts take him back in time. He never even heard a second car starting down below.

All too recently when he’d had first dates there wasn’t much drive to go on a second, much less bring them to the apartment for after dinner drinks. Then again, he mused, sipping on his drink, it had been like that since him.

Of course that sent his mind back almost four and half years to when he and Lucien had last seen each other.

(Flashback)

“What?”

“I’m getting married Desimir. My parents found a nice girl and we are going to be getting married in two weeks, as soon as the license comes in.” Lucien said.

“But, but what about us?” He felt as if his heart was breaking, the pain inside all too real. “You said that we were going to be together, always. How can you be getting married? You don’t even like women. You told me so yourself! You said that a woman has never turned you on!”

“I was wrong. It was just a momentary delusion Desimir,” he replied coldly, his icy gaze never leaving Desimir’s rapidly tearing eyes. “I’m not gay. It was just a nice fuck between buddies, some thing to do when I got tired of jerking off.”

He couldn’t speak, his throat felt blocked. The tears that had been building spilled down his face. He didn’t even attempt to wipe them away as he spoke, “So that’s it. After two years of being together and you telling me that it meant nothing to you? You were the one that helped me come to grips with the idea that I was.

“I can’t believe it though, all those times you told me that you didn’t care what your parents said. That was all a lie and they ended up getting to you in the end huh? They never liked me anyway. However, I thought that you did.” The pain was evident in his tone and he turned his back on Lucien. “Do what you have to do. I’ll never forget you and my love goes with you, Luc.”

“Mary and I are moving after the wedding, I’ll be taking over her father’s business in a few years. So I won’t really see you around much.” Lucien replied.

(End Flashback)

Since Luc he’d had a hard time taking any man at face value. He’d only dated here and there since then, a few casual affairs, however nothing meaningful. It had taken Marissa almost a year to even convince him to start dating again after his break up with, as she called Luc, the Bastard.

But Justin was something different. From the moment he saw him sitting in the shop he’d felt an attraction like nothing he’d felt before. Even Luc’s magnetism couldn’t match the feelings he had towards Justin.

His mind just wandered back over their talk this evening. They really hadn’t discussed anything of great importance, just random topics that their minds had landed on, yet Desimir felt close to him all the same.

Already he was planning where he would take Justin on their next date.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Humming happily, Justin walked back down the stairs and out to his car. He couldn’t remember a more pleasant evening in a long time. Too recently, his evenings had been spent at home feverishly working on new stories or out on the road at various adult writers conferences.

Being so pre-occupied, he never even noticed the car following him on his drive home until he was almost there. But when the car continued down the street when he turned into his apartment complex, he dismissed it from his mind as an over active writers imagination and his thoughts returned to Desimir.

The attraction was undeniable. He wanted nothing more than to loose himself in the feelings that were beginning to stir, but there was still that hesitancy. As much as he hated to admit it, Donovan had done a number on him.

He hadn’t dated since he’d run away from the old place, the fear overtaking him. Justin wasn’t quite sure what possessed him to even tease Desimir into a date, but was very glad that he had.

Locking up his car, he made sure that he had the laptop and headed inside. Glancing at the time, he knew that he really needed to head off to bed, however the muses were begging to be released and Justin knew he would never get any sleep if he didn’t give in. So, the laptop was plugged in and he curled up on the couch to write a bit more.

Sitting beside the bed, he felt despair washing over him again. His lover was way too pale and there were too many machines hooked up to the body he had worshipped over and over. His mind went back to last evening before Josh had slit his wrists.

(Flashback)

They had been laying in bed, simply cuddling and watching some TV when Josh had turned to him, a serious look on his face. “Hey Matt, I really need to talk to you about something.”

He hadn’t had a clue what Josh wanted to talk about, but shrugged and turned off the television. “Sure,” he’d said, “What’s going on?”

Looking down at the bedspread, Josh had absently traced random patterns. “Well, you remember I had that doctor’s appointment last week? Because of how I’ve been feeling?”

“Yeah, all tired and stuff, and your hands and feet were slightly numb at times. You thought it might be mono.” Matthew had replied. “You had that blood test. What ever came of that?”

Josh had drawn a shuddering breath, eyes filling with tears as he looked up at Matthew, “It’s worse than that. The doctor called me today with the results. I still have to go in for a lot more tests, but he’s almost certain that he’s diagnosed it.”

Having known Josh for so long, he’d simply pulled the other man into his arms and held him as a single tear ran down his cheek. Josh’s face was buried deep in Matthew’s chest when he spoke again, causing the words to be slightly muffled, “He said….He said that the tests came back positive for HIV….”

Matthew had sat in shock for a moment, trying to make sure he’d heard right as his grip loosened on his lover. It had taken a moment to set in, and when it did, he’d pushed Josh away roughly. “What did you say? Please tell me you didn’t say what I thought you said.”

“Matt, I’m so sorry…I don’t know how it happened or when it happened. The doctor said I might have had it for several years! It could’ve been missed in other tests!” Josh had replied brokenly, the tears running freely down his face now, sobs barely held in.

“I can’t deal with this right now. I’m sorry. I’ve got to go and think Josh. I’ll call you later.” Matt had said, sitting up on the bed and pulling his shoes on. He hadn’t said another word before he’d walked out the front door and headed back to his place to think about it.

It had taken several hours of soul searching and research on the internet before he’d come to terms with the idea that his lover had a terminal disease. Pulling himself together, he had grabbed a pair of sweats and thrown on a t-shirt and headed over to Josh’s.

Something hadn’t felt right as he was driving over and he’d hurried. Matthew had just opened the door using his key and run into the kitchen in time to see the knife slip from Josh’s hand as blood pooled around his lover’s slight body. He’d stood there in horror, not knowing what to do. “Josh…”

Those cornflower eyes that he loved so much had fluttered open at the sound of his voice and a small smile touched tear stained cheeks. “It’s for the best Matt. It’s easier to go this way instead of wasting away…”

“But…Josh, please…” Tears had flowed freely as he watched his lover’s life slip away from him. “Why did you have to do this? I would have been here for you no matter what.”

“It’s…for the …best…” had come the soft reply. “You don’t need a burden like me hanging around. You need to be free to live your life.”

(End Flashback)

Matthew was pulled from his memories as one of the monitors started beeping frantically and nurses filled the room, shooing him out.

Saving the story, Justin shut the computer down and set it aside. The story was taking a much more emotional bend than he had originally intended, but somehow it just seemed right. The next one would be pure romance though, and he had a feeling that the main character would be tall, dark and handsome like the man filling his mind right now. Smiling softly to himself, he headed off to bed and to dream of his new interest.
