Chapter 12

She politely nodded her head and took his hand. As they danced Charle noticed small things that he was doing that made it seem like he was trying to assert his dominance. His grip on her hand and waist were much tighter then it needed to be, and the steps he was taking were large enough to make someone who didn’t dance as often as she did stumble. But she was able to keep up with him quite easily, and to compensate for the death-like grip on her hand and waist she dug her nails slightly into his shoulder and grasped his hand just as tightly which resulted in imprints of her nails on his skin.

“You’re spending a lot of time with him.” Nico said simply and Charle knew immediately who him was, but she played stupid.

“Him who? I spend a lot of time with boys. D, My brother, my father…” Her eyes locked dangerously with his, a lethal glint in her eyes. Nico seemed taken back but recovered quickly.

“Spending as much time with him as you are is dangerous for him.” Nico said and spun her, catching her so that her own body was pressed against his. “You don’t want to see him in hospital.” Charles eyes narrowed.

“If I see him in hospital, you or your cronies will be in the grave.” Nico chuckled slightly as if what she said didn’t bother him, even though she could see it in his eyes that it did.

“Like you said, you hang out with many guys your brother for instance.” Nico said and Charle knew a threat to her family when she heard it. She leaned close to Nico’s ear so that no one would hear her.

“If you hurt anyone, that I care about, I will castrate you…” Nico dipped her, audibly shaken by her comment. “With a rusty, dull knife.” He righted her despite his shaking hands, just as the dance finished. Charle could tell that she had won the battle by the dramatic change in Nico’s skin tone. He almost looked sick. “Why, you look like you are sick, perhaps you should go home.”

D dropped the glasses of punch as he saw Charle and Nico dancing, and swallowed hard when he saw how close they were, and the fact that they looked as though they were about to kill each other. He knew that there was going to be trouble when Nico dipped her and looked like he was white as a ghost and about to drop her. D quickly regained composure as Charle gracefully came toward him, he grinned at her then led her outside.

“Charle, look, I just remembered something that I have to do. Would you mind going home?” Charle shook her head and smiled.

“No I don’t mind.” D was instantly suspicious, Charle was never this agreeable, in fact he had been prepared for a full out fight. She got into the limo with a hug and kiss goodbye. Then D turned around to look at an angry Nico and knew that he was in for it.

D slowly turned to look at Nico, who was striding quickly over to him. “look, Nico, I’m sorry she-“ His words were cut short by Nico punching him hard in the face he fell to the ground with a grunt.

“I’m not going to hurt you as badly as I could, because I still enjoy you.” His voiced was cold as he kicked D in the rib cage. “But I want you to never associate with that girl again.” He grasped D collar and pulled him close so that he could punch him in the face and throw him to the ground. He gave him another kick to the ribs and smiled almost kindly at him. “You know I love you D, but you can’t keep disobeying me.” He gave D a rough kiss then, laughing cruelly went back inside.

The second the limo door closed Charle climbed over into the front passenger seat. The driver looked at her, almost startled.

“Slow down enough for me to get out the second we reach the next stop sign.” At the end of the driveway the limo driver slowed down and Charle climbed out. She thanked the driver and told him to wait. She snuck through the woods; miraculously she didn’t get her dress or hair stuck on anything. She saw Nico walking away from a very injured D. Charle’s eyes narrowed and then she went back inside, skirting around D so that he wouldn’t see her. She spotted Nico’s spotless white suit almost instantly dancing with a girl on the dance floor. She strode across the floor gracefully.

“May I cut in?” She asked the girl, and upon seeing the look in Charles eyes the girl nodded and stepped away. Before Nico could run Charle grabbed his hand and put the other on his shoulder, he had no other option but to comply. After a few moments of dancing Nico dipped her for the end of the song and Charle did something she had not done when she was dancing with him before. She leaned back a little more, planted a hand on the floor and in a flurry of skirts back roundhouse kicked him in the face. She heard the satisfying crunch of bone, when she completed her turn and looked at him the front of his suit was stained scarlet from blood.

“I didn’t have a rusty dull blade to castrate you. So breaking your nose was the next best thing.” She said and left, dead silence had fallen over the room, broken only by someone calling for an ambulance.
D had known something was wrong when the limo pulled back around. D tried to stand when Charle was instantly by his side, helping him stand. He saw an ambulance, and was about to protest that he didn’t need one when he saw the Nico, his white suit stained red. D looked at Charle as she led him to the limo.

“What...?” he asked as Charle settled him in the limo, then began fussing with him to get him comfortable.

“Well, when we were dancing Nico threatened you and my family. I told him that if he even tried it I would castrate him with a dull rusty knife. Then he went and hurt you, I didn’t have a dull rusty knife on me, so I broke his nose.” Charle said simply and told the driver to go to D’s apartment. D swallowed hard and looked at her. This did not look good at all.
