How quickly things can change
Light filtered in through the blinds, barley lighting up the room. Jason\'s eyes slowly fluttered open and were quickly closed again as they were met by a beam of sun the landed directly in his eyes. He slowly regestered the warm body curled up in the crook of his back and smiled into his pillow as he thought about what almost took place the night before. \"Veronica\" his hoarse voice whispered. That smile was quickly replaced by a scowl as he thought about Alex and his actions.
\"You\'ll never get anything I have and you\'ll never keep anything I want.\"
The words rang out in his head and as much as they angered him, so far he had to admit that his borther had been right. For as long as he could remember, anything that he had, Alex had somehow managed to get and keep. But when he tried to get it back or take something of his, he failed. The only thing he was able to get from Alex were hand-me-downs. The same thing was true with Veronica. The only difference was that even if Veronica were to become a \"hand-me-down\" he wouldn\'t mind having her. He once again smiled to himself as he thought about the double meaning in that phrase.
He was stirred from his thoughts by the body behind him moving. It tossed and turned for a little while before he finally heard it speak.
\"Good morning\" Veronica said softly.
\"Good morning\" was his reply. He rolled over to face her and could only stare in awe at the sight. Her hair was messy and sprawled out around her on the pillow, her eyes were clear and brown, staring up at him, and her pink lips were slightly swollen and pouty from just waking up. He felt himself begain to get aroused at the sight and could have taken her right then, if he hadn\'t known it would only lead to more trouble. They lay there for a minute, staring at each other.
She had to admit to herself. The boy was easy on the eyes, even if it was morning. His hair was equally as messy and beautiful brown eyes also caught her attention. But what caught her attention even more was the sight of his tounge darting out and lick his lips. She had to fight back the urge to moan. But with him so close to her she longed once more to see what he tasted like. Granted that morning breath would probably be an issue, she risked it anyway and slowly leaned into his face.
Jason was shocked. He didn\'t know if he should stop her or let things progress. It was becoming increasingly harder for him to maintain all rational thought with her face coming closer to his, and he knew he had to make a decision soon before....It was already too late. Her lips were planted firmly on his and he could feel his brain shutting down and his heart taking over.
She parted her mouth just a little bit, which excited him to no end. He tenderly slid his tounge along the roof of her mouth and felt her shudder. She returned the favor and he couldn\'t help but let out a small moan. The kissed deepend and Jason could feel that familiar tightening of his pants and knew things would have to stop soon or else he wouldn\'t be able to hold back any longer. Apparently Veronica felt the small poke on her upper thigh and quickly pulled away from the kiss. They were both breathing a little harder and were flustered a little.
Finally Jason found his voice. \"M-maybe you should go to the bathroom and get changed.\" he said in a shaky voice. \"Yeah.\" Veronica readily agreed. \"I probably should go to the house and check on Butch.\" and with that she quickly jumped up and went to the pile of clothes Jason had brought over from her room the night before. Finding something she could wear for the day, she set off for the bathroom, already knowing where everything was, when she stopped and turned around.
Jason was sitting on the edge of the bed, looking out the window. She also looked out the window and straight into her room. \'Do I always leave the curtains open?\' she wondered. A slight blush crept over her as she thought about her changing and some more...erotic moments that had taken place. Suddenly she cringed at the thought of who those moments had taken place with. And then one thought was replace by another. \'Does Jason watch me?\' She felt the guilt creep over her as she looked from her room to his figure sitting on his bed. The idea that he might like her as more than firends and that she might feel the same came into her head as she stared at his back.
As if snapping out of her thoughts, she remembered what she had stopped for. \"If you don\'t mind, I would feel better if you came over to the house with me.\" Closing his eyes, relieved at the opprotunity to spend more time with her, he nodded his head before he answered \"Sure.\"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
\"I guess that\'s it\" she said as she gave her room once last look around, making sure everything was in place. It was obvious Alex had been there but nothing seems extremly out of place or missing. Jason was on the floor playing with her puppy, who had finally accepted him as an ally.
\"Now what?\" Jason asked as he sat back.
I don\'t know\" Veronica replied, sitting next to him. Immediatly, Butch turned his attention away from Jason and jumped into Veronica\'s lap, nudging her hand. \"I just never thought someone that I cared so much for could hurt me so bad.\"
The pain in her voice made Jason want to hunt his brother down and kill him slowly. \"I hate to break it to you, but that\'s just how Alex is\" Jason started but quickly finished up when he saw her give him the \'I don\'t feel like hearing the I-told-you-so speech\' look. \" And I know you might have loved him or still love him, but the truth of the matter is, I knew his sweet exterior was just a front for you. You don\'t remember how bad he was because when the day was over, you got to go home. He was home, in my world, and there was no escape. Yeah some people change, but unfortunalty, he\'s just not one of them.\"
She lowered her head and nodded it. \"I guess you\'re right. I do still love him, but I thought we had something....special. I guess not since he could go off and do something like that with someone who I thought was my friend.\"
\"Maybe you should get Sandra\'s side of the story before you go and make any rash judgments.\" Jason quickly interjected. Getting her as far away from his brother as possible, even if it meant getting her to make up with a friend that betrayed her, was worth a try.
\"Maybe....\" she begain but was cut off by the ringing of the doorbell. \"I\'d better get that. I\'ll be right back.\" Veronica said. Before Jason could protest she had dumped the puppy in his lap and was out the door.
\'I know this can only be bad news....for me.\' He thought to himself. He idly played with the puppy, teasing his tail with his hand. The little dog quickly ran clockwise and counter-clockwise in an effort to find the source of the fun. After about ten minutes, Jason began to worry about Veronica and his bad feeling deepend as he heard two sets of footsteps on the stairs.
In walks Alex, looking haughtly down and Jason. Butch forgets about his playing and growls and Alex. Jason stands and looks Alex dead in the eye, ready to pounce at any moment. At that point Veonica begins to feel a little frightened as she looks from one brother to the other. She could see pure anger bubbling behind each one\'s eyes and she just knew a fight would break out any minute. To her surprise, and Jason\'s, Alex backed down and feigned a hurt expression as he looked away. Jason could see right thought his act, but he was afraid Veronica couldn\'t.
\"Jay?\" The soft, searching voice brought his attention to her. \"Can you give us a while. We need to talk.\" He knew full and well that there was nothing Alex needed to say to her, there was nothing that needed to be discussed. He knew his brother was going to feed her a bunch of bullshit. But for her sake, going against his better judment, he backed down and exited her room through her door, deciding against the window this time.
Once back in his room he went to the window and stared at the scene unfolding; They were sitting on her bed, his arm around her, she was playing with his finger in her hand. She looked up at him and then looked away, lips moving, letting go of his hand. \'Yes\' Jason screamed in his head. He took her hand again, lips moving, and placed a kiss on her palm. She looked up at him. \'No\' his mind raced. She shook her head and got up, walking over the the other side of the room. \'Yes.\' He got up and went behind her talking into her ear and stroking her arm. \'No.\' She gave a little giggle and he nipped at her neck with his mouth. \'No!\' She turned around in his arms and embaced him in a hug. They kissed. \'No, no, no!\' He picked her up and spun around with her in his arms. She laughed. For a minute they looked like a happy, normal couple and he almost forgot who the man that held her was.
\"You\'ll never get anything I have and you\'ll never keep anything I want.\"
The words echoed in his head.
The spinning stopped and they were kissing again. This time, more passionatly. Jason felt his eyes burn with tears and felt hurt and anger rise in his chest. Not at her, but at him. His words seemed even truer now. \"Dammit!\" He yelled out at the top of his lungs and shut his blinds.
Veronica looked over to Jason\'s window at hearing the startling cry. A wave of guilt washed over her as she saw his bouncing blinds. A smirk crept up to Alex\'s lips and he buried his face in the crook of Veronica\'s neck.
\"You\'ll never get anything I have and you\'ll never keep anything I want.\"
