The Stand-off
Sorry for the long wait, got a major case of lazyness and personal crap to deal with. I'll try to have the next chapter up by Oct. 15 which is when How to train your Dragon comes to DvD, yay. It'll give me inspriation for upcoming chapters. Anywho to the story.
Recap: Clara is dealing with bitchy maids and led some guy to Aiden's office, however, the dude turns out to be an assassin. Aiden kick's his ass, but Aiden and clara both get poisened and might die
******************************************************************************
Darkness, swirling darkness, if that made any sense. Clara was pretty sure darkness can’t swirl, well swirl in the sense that human eyes can pick up on.
I guess I’m dead. This sucks ass. I guess nothing happens when you die…but if that’s the case, I shouldn’t be aware of anything, right? I should be proof! No existing, so how am I aware? Is this some waiting area, am I going someplace else? Am I going to talk to someone? What’s going on!? Okay, okay there is no sense in panicking Clara. You’re dead, what more can you do? You know this is not how I imagined myself dying, in saving the life of the asshole, though, I guess he did come to my rescue... still a class- A jackass. I guess I shouldn’t complain, I mean how many people can say they died in a different world with fantasy and crap. Hey! Maybe that was a dream, yeah! Maybe I got into an accident on my way home, and wentt into a coma. Yeah, yeah it was all a dream. I mean on Discovery Health, they had people that came out of coma, and said that they were leading other lives when they were asleep. That would explain everything. All this different world business, Kakonia, demons, it’s all been made up in my head. All those people are not real….yeah, not real…Andrew, Jared, Darren…Aiden….figments of my mind. Wow, I’m actually sad…no, no I’ve got to wake up. I’ll focus on then later, I’ve got to wake up, come on Clara, come on, wake up! Oh! Oh! Look a light! It’s getting bigger….whoa!
Clara became aware that she was opening her eyes. Finally focusing her vision, she found that she wasn’t in a bright white hospital room she was hoping for. Instead her wondering eyes took in a dimly lit stone room. Heavy brown drapes covered the single window. Shelves lined the room, covered in books, scrolls, and things floating in jars.
“The hell!?” gasped Clara, her voice raspy from the lack of use.
“You’re awake, good” a man that was sitting behind a messy desk walked up to Clara. She recognized him as the crazy doctor.
“Shit, not you” groaned Clara.
“Good morning to you too, sunshine” chuckled the doctor. “How are you feeling?”
“Like shit, man, it really wasn’t an insane dream” muttered Clara.
“Here, drink some water, you must be thirsty. You’ve been out for three days, I was beginning to think you weren’t going to wake up” replied the doctor handing over a glass of water. Clara eagerly drank the contents. “Better?”
“Yeah, I guess. Where am I now?” asked Clara flumping back in the comfy bed.
“You are in my room and in my bed” replied the doctor stretching his back.
“Your room!?” screeched Clara.
“Well I couldn’t grantee your safety if I’d have left you in the infirmary. There are heartless people out there after all” stated the man, taking a seat on the bed.
“Why help me? I’m a human after all?” asked Clara, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“Unlike the general population, I don’t care what you are. I am a man of science; I like to think that I am not tied down by petty fears and irrationality. Besides, I never had the chance to study a human. It’s like looking back in time at our ancestors” smiled the Doctor.
“Huh?” asked Clara confused.
“Well, in Kakonia lore, we were once humans that were gifted by Keeva to be, well, what you see before you. However, I find this mystical story to be lacking. My theory is that while our people were humans, I think we simply evolved at an expeditious rate to the point that we are what we are. I do believe in Keeva, but I don’t believe she decided to gift us with powers overnight. I believe your people, given enough time, will someday be like Kakonia” finished the doctor.
“Wow! That actually makes some sense” gaped Clara, surprised that there was someone logical person in this backwards place.
“Indeed, I believe that lore and logic are completely different concepts, but somehow they collide to make sense. It’s nice have this kind on conversation with someone without them be offended. It’s difficult being a man of science in a medieval country”
“I can understand I’m a realist myself” added Clara.
“Perhaps we can have more discussions in the future then” smiled the doctor “provided that you are not frighten of me”
“I still think you’re crazy and I don’t want to be a lab rat” commented Clara.
“You wound me, human” replied the doctor dramatically, placing his hand over his heart, as though it had be hurt.
Clara chuckled, “its Clara, not human”
“Sato. Pleased to meet you”
“Likewise, Oh! What happened to Aiden, is he okay?” asked Clara alarmed.
“Fine, the procedure went as expected. He’ll be bedridden a few days, but will make a full recovery. Unfortunately, he is throwing a tantrum about being stuck in bed and what I did to him. Honestly, save someone’s life and they still find things to bitch about” huffed Sato
“Sounds like Aiden” commented Clara.
“You were lucky too, by all regards, you should have died” That statement stilled Clara, and cold shiver running down her spine. “I practically had to drain you of most your blood to fatal levels”
“But I didn’t die” added Clara.
“They say red heads are naturally lucky, since it’s a rare hair color” commented Sato to himself, “perhaps its luck that I happened to be have these”. Sato reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a vial containing red pills.
“What are those?” asked Clara looking at the vial.
“These are plasma pills or as demons call them ‘soldier pills’ very advance medicine” replied Sato stroking the vial with his thumb.
“Demon medicine!” squeaked Clara.
“Keep it down will ya, this is contraband. If I’m caught with it, they’ll haul my ass to the dungeon. Not a pleasant place mind you”
“Sorry, but why use that stuff. I thought you guys hate demons?” asked Clara.
“Like I said before, I am a man of science and race doesn’t mean that much to me. Besides, demons are highly advance in many fields, unlike us. For example, these little beauties replenish a person’s blood supply in a very short amount of time, no matter the blood type. Fantastic isn’t it! Demons use them when there is no food source around” explained Sato.
“Great” replied Clara dully. If she didn’t have a grudge against demons she would have been more impressed. “Why do demons need blood?” asked Clara.
Sato gave a smirk, “As mighty as demons are physically and magically, they have one genetic flaw. For whatever reason, their bodies don’t produce enough blood to maintain their bodies even if they eat normal food. As a result they found that feeding off of living creature’s blood supply is a good supplement for their deficiency. They used to feed off our ancestors, but once we even the playing field they turn elsewhere for blood. Thus why demons feed off of human blood” finished Sato.
“So that’s why they kidnap humans…why they took me” whispered Clara to herself.
“Any living creature will do what it can to survive, even going parasitic” replied Sato.
Clara dropped her head dejectedly, bringing her knees up to her chest. “It’s unfair, why did it have to be me?! All I want is to go home. I hate it here! Why does all this crap happen to me?!” cried Clara, tears clouding her eyes.
“Often life isn’t fair, but that’s life. We must make the best of it” offered Sato, not sure how to comfort the woman.
“What’s here for me to make the best of? I’m a slave”
“True, but you could change that” said Sato.
“Huh?” Clara looked up at the doctor “How can I change that?” asked Clara wiping the tears from her eyes.
“You saved the king’s life, I think you have the right to ask for something in return” smiled Sato.
“I really don’t think this is a good idea” whimpered Clara trying to keep pace with the insane doctor. “He hates me, and judging by the reaction he gave when you told him about putting my blood in him, he must hate me even more”
“Calm down, he may dislike you but he doesn’t hate you. Trust me, you’d know if Aiden hated you” replied Sato cheerfully.
Clara hardly believed she let the nut-job talk her into going to see the king for a reward for being in the way.
He may have not gotten so hurt if he didn’t come to save me. I wonder why he did though. Thought Clara.
The red head’s mind drifted back to the moment in the infirmary. The image of Aiden looking so sick made her feel guilty for being in the way.
I can’t believe I lived through that, I mean an assassin attack. Wow! To think I practically led the guy to Aiden, wait! What?! Oh double shit on a stick!
Clara stopped dead in her tracks.
“What now?” asked Sato.
“I can’t see him!” cried Clara “I led the assassin to his office! I’m to blame for him getting hurt, he’ll kill me!”
“Relax, you didn’t know he was an assassin, just a messenger” offered Sato.
“Like hell Aiden’s going to care! This is the perfect excuse for him to kill me!” wailed Clara, pulling at her hair.
“You’re being overly dramatic” started Sato dully.
“No I’m not!” defended Clara.
The healer rolled his eyes and took hold of Clara’s arm and pulled her along.
“No, no! I want to live! Besides what do you care if I get a reward or anything? It isn’t any of your business” hissed Clara, yanking with all her might to free herself.
“True, but I’m curious about something” replied the doctor.
“Curious! Didn’t I say I didn’t want to be an experiment!” yelled Clara. The scene the two were creating drew some questionable looks from the other people in the hall.
“Look I’ve been with his highness for many decades now, and well, he doesn’t do things without reason”
“What does that mean?” asked Clara.
“If you were as worthless in his eyes as you claim, he wouldn’t have saved you or said that…” trailed off the doctor.
“Huh?” asked a confused Clara.
“We’re here” stated Sato.
Clara found herself in front of a huge pair of double doors, the royal crest craved into the stone above the doors. Two huge guards were on either side of the entrance, their bodies incased in black armor. Their spears crossed in front of the doors, like in the movies. Clara might have been impresses if the guards didn’t scare her so much.
“The healer Sato to see the king” stated the doctor.
The guards said nothing. For a moment they stayed frozen, then their spears un-crossed allowing entrance.
“Come now” said Sato, pulling Clara along like a ragdoll. Clara for her part let herself be dragged. She did not want any attention brought to her.
Clara entered into the royal bedroom; she wasn’t prepared for what she saw.
This…this is his bedroom!? This is a freaking hotel lobby big, thought Clara. The red head was in awe at the huge room. The cathedral ceiling had crossing arches similar to the throne room downstairs. The walls were stone with decorative tapestries hung up. A large bay window was on the far right of the room with a pair of open French doors that led to a sizable balcony. Clara could smell and hear the ocean. However, what really caught Clara’s attention was the huge bed in the center of the room. The canopy bed itself could consume at least three regular king sized beds. The bedding adorning it was a deep wine color with like fifty huge pillows. Of course, in the middle of the grand bed was Aiden, propped like the king that he was.
Previously, Aiden had been gazing upward blankly, but now his attention focused on his intruders. Clara made a point not to look at him in the eyes. Instead the red head decided to look at his…
Holy mother of God!
Clara gazed at Aiden bare chest. Sure she seen him in dark shirts and even then he looked impressive. However, this was her first time seeing Aiden’s bare chest. Some of his color had returned, but he was still pale, but the off color didn’t take away from his stunning upper body. The king was decked out in muscles, but not in a creepy way. In fact, Aiden seemed more average then some of the males Clara had seen. Surprisingly, he didn’t appear to have chest hair or if he did the hair was so fine against his skin that they couldn’t be seen. Clara did notice numerous old scars, two of which, looked real bad. Overall, Aiden was a raving beauty and a god to manliness in Clara’s eyes, ashamed he was a complete asshole.
Is…is he naked under there…questioned Clara, gulping down some saliva. Wonder if downstairs is just as lavish as upstairs, thought the red head still ogling.
In the meantime the good doctor decided greet the bedridden king, “Good morning, your majesty, and how are we feeling…”
The doctor was cut short as a pillow smashed into his face. The offending object flumped to the floor, leaving a smiling healer, “I see we are feeling better today”
“Keep away from me, you crackpot” growled Aiden.
“Come on, are you still pouting over the incident” asked the doctor cheerfully.
“Pouting!” exclaimed Aiden in shock, “You violated my body!”
“I saved your life, and it’s not like a put my man bits up your ass. Sheesh, why does everyone overreact?” replied the healer scratching his head.
Clara for her part couldn’t believe the doctor had said that to Aiden, her mouth was hanging open.
Aiden in turn glared hatefully at the healer before crossing his arms and slumping down in the bed. “When can I leave the room, I don’t miss the paperwork but I’m going bat shit crazy in here” grumbled Aiden.
Clara had to suppress a giggle at Aiden behavior. ‘He’s acting like a child whose sick in bed on the weekend’
“A few days to make sure you’re really okay. You might feel fatigued and nauseous during those days” explained Sato, “I need to check your heart, milord”
“You’re not touching me” growled Aiden, sinking further in the pillows.
“Come on I only want to check your little black heart, of course, I could call the guards in here to hold you down and perform a full body exam” grinned the doctor gleefully. “Think of it Aiden. I would have to bend you over and stick my…”
“Fine!” roared Aiden sitting up.
Sato grinned and snatched the king’s arm.
“What is that doing here? Don’t tell me you need to put more of her damn blood in me? I can already feel myself grow weaker with her inferior blood” spat the silver-haired man.
Fuck you too, thought Clara. The red head glared Aiden with all her might but remained silent.
“No, there is no follow up procedure, but our human friend here would like to ask for something in return for saving your life” stated Sato evenly.
“What! That thing has the audacity to ask for a reward?!” roared Aiden outraged.
“Please keep still, Aiden. I hardly think granting a request is outrageous. Without her, you would have died. You know, rest in peace; bite the big one, worm chow, dead”
“Okay, okay” grumbled Aiden.
“Good, your heart rate is a little slow, but fine. Oh! Gosh darn I forgot your medicine” exclaimed the doctor in fake surprise. “I’ll just pop down to the lab and retrieve it”
“Huh? What?!” gasped Clara. The woman made to grab the deceiving doctor, but the man seemed to magically move across the room and through the door. “Won’t be a few minutes, bye” and then he was gone and Clara was stuck with the moody king.
That…that jerk, wait till he comes back, if I’m still alive, I’m going to straggle that crackpot, thought Clara darkly.
“Hey, human get over here” barked Aiden. Clara slowly turned towards the embodiment of fear. “Today human” Clara groaned in defeat. She slowly made her way to Aiden’s side, her head down.
“Look at me” order Aiden. Clara refused. “You know it’s a sign of weakness not to look someone in the eye” stated Aiden dully.
“What does it matter? I’m already weak, and trash in your eyes. Look we can just forget it, you don’t have to give me anything” whispered Clara.
“Weak and a quitter, wow the wretchedness of you humans know no bounds” scoffed Aiden.
You know what? Screw it, I die, I die, but I’m telling this prick off, were Clara thoughts.
Clenching her fists, she raised her head and look Aiden dead in the eyes, “You know what, and I am fucking sick of you putting me down. Sure, I’m weak and I complain a lot, but you know it isn’t easy being transported into a alien world; be chased by demons ’fucking demons!’; end up in this ass backward country; be enslaved; threatened with death; nearly raped; and treated like the scum of the earth! But you know what?! You know what, Aiden! I’m still alive! After all this shit, I’m still alive!” Clara’s voice cracked and tears began gathering in her eyes, but she continued to scream, “You are the biggest asshole I’ve ever meet! You are the cruelest, most merciless, and the most shit eating son of a bitch, jackass that has ever been born! You may kill me, but screw you, you bastard! It was well worth telling you off, you…you…” the rest of the rant trailed off and Clara broke down crying. Her head hit the softness of the bed with a thud. “I…I…hate you, I hate you…” were Clara’s broken final words.
