Poorly Made Plans
---------------------------------------------
The rest of the morning was a waiting game. Donovan stared out at the water and the rain and frowned. Why the hell was it pouring so hard? It shouldn't do this today...
“When's it gonna stop?”
“Probably another hour.” Boomer wasn't worried as he lounged about and watched T.V. The older man was really enjoying himself, from what the teenager saw. Leolin, however, sat wiggling and chewing on his thumb. Donovan sighed and kept looking out the window. It was really strange to see it all coming into place. It was going to be so good to get away from this!
“So, ya gotta place to go, Kid?”
“Uh...” That stumped him. Maybe this wasn't as well thought out as he originally thought. Boomer raised an eyebrow. Donovan grew very anxious, he felt his heart fall as his old 'mentor' stared at him with a dumbfounded expression.
“Ya can't stay in New York, yanno.”
“I know, Boom....” Great. He felt stupid all of a sudden. Leolin even sat at attention, listening. It made the teenager tense to have two pairs of ears on him. He cracked under the pressure and fell deathly silent.
“So, where're ya goin?”
“I um...” Leolin started to whimper and his shoulder slumped dramatically. Donovan didn't know what to do. He looked around, he thought and thought. “Maybe...get out by train.”
“That'sa start. You really should think before tryin' something.”
“I'm...yeah.” He scowled and sighed. This was not fun to try and come up with something.
“Can't help ya either.”
“...yeah I know.” He sighed, if Boomer helped, he'd be apart of it too. If he was apart of it, Rosencroft would not hesitated to use pain for powers of persuasion. Maybe while the rain was pouring, he could think of something. He thought about it. If they caught a taxi to the depot to another state...it'd be a question of keeping Leolin hidden. That wouldn't be too hard...right? He looked over at his brother, sucking on his thumb and acting like a puppy. Wrong. “This ain't gonna be easy...”
“Coulda told ya that.”
“Shuddup Boom.” The man chuckled and kept watching some cop show. Donovan didn't care for it. The scenes played out like a special investigation unit with victim protection. Like that stuff could really work. The teenager snorted and stared off into space to think.
If he could somehow get Leolin through the hotel unnoticed, with a gun, to a taxi. He'd be home free. The question was, did he have enough money? He got up to check the funds...yeah enough green there, paid in full. So, that wasn't an issue. The issue would be if Elliot were to call or one of the other members saw them. Boomer would be in deep shit and Donovan would be in even deeper. Leolin was a personal 'item' of the boss. Anything of his stolen would be immediate termination. Termination was the nice way of putting your head being blown off and your body dumped somewhere.
He thought about it for at least an hour longer. He formulated the perfect get away. If the rain would only ease up. Donovan sighed and laid back, tense. The moment was going to be there any moment for them to get out of hell. To get out of Dodge.
“Ya want my gun? It's over on the counter, kid. Get ready to go.” The water falling was starting to ease from the downpour that drenched New York City.
“Kay...Boom?” The older man looked up at him. Donovan smiled slightly. “...thanks, Old Fart.”
“Yeah, Kid, don't make me regret this.”
“I won't.” Sighing, Donovan picked up the holster belt and the gun with ammo. It was fully loaded. He placed his coat over the top of it all. Good thing the only leather covering he had was too large for him. Leolin blinked. “Mn?”
Donovan turned to him and moved over towards the large couch. “Hey Leo, we're goin soon...” He hugged his twin and put those feet into his own shoes. Leolin moved a little awkward but he was fine. The teen watched as it stopped raining entirely, if only for a little while. “Come on, we're goin...ya ready for this?” Leolin sighed and took his hand. Donovan felt it was a 'no' but still, it was the right thing to do. Gathering him up, getting him to his feet...helping him move towards the front door, the phone rang. Donovan stopped dead in his tracks. Oh shit. That wasn't good. It was a tell tale sign of trouble. His heart stopped beating and skipped every ring that blared through the room.
Boomer was watching them and Donovan turned to look at him with wide eyes. The older guy sighed and got up to answer the phone. It should just fucking stop! It had to be the wrong number!
“Hello? You're comin back? Why sir...” Damn it! It wasn't the wrong number. There was a pause, both twins were gripping each other's hands in an intense moment. Donovan's breathing came to a halt for just a moment as they listened further. “...ah. Gottcha...unfinished work in the city then?” Fuck. This wasn't cool. “The two? Oh, their fine right now.” Boomer laughed, it sounded real enough, given the situation. “All right, sir. I'll tell 'em tah sit tight.” He heard a 'thanks Ralph' on the other end. So, Boomer's real name's Ralph...interesting.
“See ya inna bit.” Both parties hung up with the conversation. Boomer turned to them, looking solemn and stoic. “Get your ass outta here now.” His voice carried weight and warning. It didn't take long for the brothers to act.
Without a moment to spare, Donovan tugged Leolin out the door and down the hall to the elevator. His brother couldn't move as fast. Fuck...
“Leo, come on. We gotta hurry.” He pulled his brother into the elevator and pushed the button for the basement level. The reception area. Fuck Fuck Fuck. This was not going to be pretty. As it opened again, he barreled out of the doors with his brother gripping and trying to keep up.
Running towards the front, revolving doors....there was Rosencroft headed straight for them. Elliot and the hitman stared at each other before either could react. Donovan's breathing stopped as he darted through the side doors, hearing shouts.
“STOP THEM!” So much for the get away plan. Shots rang out as the entourage went to the call of their fearless leader. Donovan didn't have time to draw his gun as he hurried Leolin along down the streets they could. Footsteps, guns, shouts. It was all behind them and coming as close as they could.
Leolin almost stopped until Donovan jerked him down an alleyway. “This way! Hurry up!” His voice was as desperate as his heart was. He ran with the pounding of determination coursing through his veins. His brother fell along behind, still fast. They couldn't outrun them for long. A side way, to a smaller street. Still, running figures behind them. This chase would prove either the victory or the defeat. The twins had to win!
“STOP THEM!”
Another shot rang out as a bullet flew past Leolin's ear, whizzing by, narrowly avoiding it. Fuck! They didn't even care if his brother was alive or dead. Donovan couldn't think, he had to react. “THIS WAY!” He was nearly screaming, panic was setting in. Puddles were ignored as their feet pounded on the wet cement. People didn't matter. Both twins bowled them over, cutting through the crowd as gunshots grew louder and louder. Donovan's mind was only focused on running. He wasn't watching as he stepped, pushing people out of the way.
They b-lined into the street, right into traffic. Headlights and car horns blared as the twins barreled into the path of an on-going vehicle with bullets flying past them. Donovan froze in fear as the breaks were slammed, the truck was skidding and turning into a hydroplane. It was headed straight for them! Everything was set in slow motion as Leolin yelled in fear as he slipped to the ground.

Just that this is a very short chapter... Anyhow, thank for your support and your thoughts! Keep telling me what you think! ^^; I can't give away spoilers at all, though. Mostly everyone has questions related to things that will be brought up later.
