Chapter 11: Under the Crimson moon.

A/n: I’m stealing song titles now. Oh, the humanity.

**

When he woke up, there were nothing heavy laying on his chest. Believe or not, that was a cause of alarm. Without thinking, Bain sat up but was pushed gently back down by a thick but kind hand.

“Easy. Doctors said that you bumped you head when you blacked out.” For some reason, that irritating thick voice was beginning to relax him. That was starting to scared Mr. No ties to anyone. “ It’s not that bad, just scared the hell out of everyone when you didn’t wake up.” Travers continue brushing the blond, blue, purple mixed hair, it was more for his comfort then anything.

Bain groaned as he dug the heels of his palms into his eyes. “Alan’s going to be pissed with me. I forgot to take those pills again.”

“Yeah, he is pissed. Nearly lost my hearing as he ranted on the phone.” He laughed, it was a little weak and tired. Ever since the small blonde’s sudden collapse at the park, hitting his head on the stone railing and didn’t wake till just now, Cheza was a nervous wrack and preyed for God that he hadn’t lost Bain.

All though, many would say that it was too early for him to think that he was in love with the annoying smart ass man, especially when he doesn’t know that much about him. But someone said the exact same thing about Cleopatra and Marc Anthony and they loved each till they both died.

Okay, bad analogy. Especially in this case.

Bain tired to move again and this time he felt the rough hospital gown on his body. He let out a long whine that outdid a hungry Slone any day.

“Why am I in this thing?” The whining did bring a smile to the dark-haired detective’s face.

“They had to remove your wet clothes.” He tossed a plastic bag with clothes at the very disturbed blonde and held up a smaller plastic bag with all of the man’s jewelry inside.

“Aw’ damn, Do you have any idea of how long it takes me to get all that on?” Bain whined as he took a look at the small plastic bag.

Cheza chuckled. “I know how long it took the nurse to get all of them off. I was kinda surprised that you didn’t have one down there under the belt.”

Bain just stuck his tongue out at the older man as he took a leap out of the hospital bed. “That’s an area that I would never want a needle near. Alan on the other hand..”

“Don’t.” That was image that the stormy-eyed man could do without. He tried to rub the disturbing imagery out of his mind and saw that Bain was staring right at him with a look on his face.

“What? Oh. Come on, you’re not that shy!” He gave a snorting laugh as he moved to gave a small kiss on the ringless mouth.

“Well, I just don’t think you’re ready yet to see me in all my naked glory. “ Bain pushed the detective far enough out so he could pull the paper thin drapes around, to hide himself so he could dress.

Cheza read the ‘how much in pain are you’ posters that were taped to the wall as he waited for the other man to get dress.

“I have seen the pictures that the detectives that were on your case had made of you while you were in the hospital.” He looked over his shoulder to see the silhouette of the small blonde stopped as he pulled the sweater back on.

“You were lucky to have survive all that and the lake dump.” Or I was lucky.

He would never had met the other man but did Bain also think that? Exactly what was his feelings about being in relationship with someone like him? So far, Bain said nothing about the matter but it just meant that he didn’t like to talk about things. Anything.

“And I do know that you covered up the scars with tattoos. There is nothing to be shamed of. You had no say in the matter.” The drapes were almost ripped off as the blonde pushed them back, fully dressed except for the socks and shoes.

But if that death-glare was anything to go on, Travers would say that he had touch a sore spot with the blonde. Again.

“That’s none of your business, you stupid caveman. I, in fact, had some say in these scars. I pissed the bastard off, he punished me-” He was silenced by a forced but welcome kissed on the mouth.

The thick arms just wrapped themselves around the smaller body, protectively and comfort. Ringless and still in need of a re-polish of dark blue nail polish nailed hands gripped the button-down work pinstripe shirt as one would gripped a lifeline, desperate for the dark memories to go away.

They broke about and laid their foreheads against one another, afraid to let each other to go for different reasons.

“Come on, I’ll take you home.” The stormy-eyed man whispered as he lifted the smaller man onto the hospital bed so he could put his socks and really old shoes on.

The drive back to Bain’s apartment was quiet, minus the occasional bark from Slone who just hated to be in closed quarters with the bigger human. Bain had long ago re-placed all his jewelry in their original places, which took up most of the ride over. There was a valid reason why, he kept most of his jewelry on over a period of time. It saved time in the morning and at night.

Now Cheza hasn’t been in the smaller man’s place long enough to actually see it. But now, he noticed that it was not that different from any other apartment. Of course there were a lot of posters in poser frames hanging on the walls. Some of bands and of movies but there a lot that were very…artistic?

And in a small corner, there were pictures of people, mostly of Alan and Bain with the darker blond being more open with the camera and the lighter being very camera shy. Most of the photos were taken when Bane used to be a brunet and much fewer piecings. Travers laughed at one where Bain had used floppy-ear plushie to covered his face as Alan tried to pulled the same doll down before the camera went off. He didn’t like the picture of Alan and Bain locked in a sloppy kiss with the bigger man under the smaller man and gripping the jean-clad ass in a steel grip.

“Before you even ask, yes we did dated but we slowly decreased into just friends with some benefits.” The blond pulled the dark-haired man away from the pictures before he popped a vein and really glad that Mr. Camera happy himself kept all the steamy pictures at his place, a few blocks safely away. Or Alan would experience what those poor people had at Hiroshima by the way that man was fuming at the mouth by just one picture.

“What kind of benefits?” He allowed himself to be forced onto the couch as the small man climbed into his lap.

Slone knew what was coming from having his master bringing other humans home a few times. He waddled into his favorite area in the whole place, the kitchen, where there were a juicy chew-bone was waiting for him. He just didn’t wish that the bigger human was today’s ’special’ guest.

He just didn’t like that male.

Not at all.

Bain gave a ’hmph’. “Like when he’s in need, Alan comes over and I gave it to him. But, he’s always on the bottom. As been since high school.” He leaned down to lick and nibbled the tan neck.

“Why is that? Are you that tough to open u-ahh!” Those pearly whites bit down far too hard.

A tongue armed with a smooth bright blue ball on one side and a steel one on the underside, licked the angry red bite-mark, not really too sorry about it though.

“No, I just didn’t like having something that thick and hard up my ass. That changed around guy number 40 but that’s a story for another time.” He purred as he continue his assault on the tan neck.

Cheza wasn’t sure how this started or what started it but right now, it didn’t really matter that much. His hands trailed up under the blue sweater, not too happy about being able to feel the man’s spine almost perfect. But anymore could happen, the long forgotten mint-colored mobile phone started to ring.

Even Slone peered around the corner with a ’what the fuck?’ look on his blubber face that perfectly matched the two humans on the couch.

Bain stood up and picked up the phone to answered it. “Hello?”

“Oh. you finally answered your GOD-DAMN PHONE!!” Bain quickly yanked the phone a foot awhile from his ear in an attempt of keeping his hearing in that ear.

“Alan?”

But instead of an answer from the ear-piece of the small phone, the front door was open with ’thud’ as it hit wall. There stood a very pissed-off Alan. That can’t be good.

“I bought you that phone so I just call you and know where you are during the day. But instead, you have chosen to forgot it and I have to learn about your little park adventure from Detective Caveman.” Now he’s calling him that? What, was he Fred Flintstone to these people?

“Alan, I wasn’t planning on a little swim or a hospital visit but you can relax now since as you could that I’m in capable hands. Now, go away.” The blond shut the door on his friend’s face but it was quickly open again as now very ticked off Alan picked the smaller man up by the sweater’s collar.

“You didn’t take your pills and you forgot your phone. Give me one good reason why I should leave you here alone with a man that lets his ex-girlfriends call him ‘Teddy-bear.’ “

“Because..” Bain spoke softly as he clutched the hand that had him by the collar. “I just slipped up today. It won’t happen again. Now go back to the shop and let me rest a bit. I’ll swing by afterwards, I promise.”

There had to be something in those moonstone eyes because a minute, the dark blonde gave ‘You better.’ and walked out and used his own key to lock the door after him.

“I guess I’ll be going too. You look like you haven’t slept since October.” Travers had moved from the couch to the other man as he rubbed his tired eyes and hugged him from behind.

But before he could blink, 120 pounds of Bain was thrust upon him and he was slammed down hard on the carpet with a blur of hands and mouth going everywhere on his body. Normally this would be a good thing if they haven’t just left the hospital.

“Bain!” He grabbed the man’s wrists just as his pants were unzipped and pushed the man up and sat up himself. “What’s with you?” He shook the blonde and tried to get him to look him in the eye.

Bain had to tell the barking Slone to quiet down and stay in the kitchen as he waddled forward with the idea of destroy the big human flashing in his beady little eyes. Then those blue-white eyes of his focused on an old stain on the carpet, afraid to look at the dark-haired man.

“I just need to either fuck you or you fuck me, than I could finally get you out of my mind and out of my life. Cause I don’t want a relationship with you.” He didn’t quiver and stayed stone cold serious as he said those words to a very bewildered man.

That was the most bizarre thing that anyone has ever said to him It was like telling a five-year that Santa and the tooth fairy weren’t real but do please continue to be good and keep looking under the pillow.

Something in him had shut down or overload because there were the sudden sound of fist hitting jawbone and Bain was laying on the carpet with his hand covering his jaw. No-one spoke or moved. It was just as if time had stood still.

There were the ringing of a mobile phone, this time it was the detective’s phone with Marks calling for him to go on down to the station because of a maybe lead in the case.

“I’ll be there in a minute.” He put the phone away and for a brief moment started to move for the still blonde that hadn’t moved in the last two minutes except to breathe and blink but instead, Cheza stood up and left the apartment.

His mind hasn’t caught up with the rest of him till he was in the station’s parking lot , turning the car off.

Bain finally moved, wiping the shed tears that fell on their own accord with the heel of his palm as he stood up and grabbed his phone and hooked Slone back on the leash and left for the book shop. Work stress was needed to get his chaotic mind back into his control. Never once did he stopped to think of what he had done.

It was dangerous to allow anyone to get close, close enough to see his scars. Both mental and physical.

It was dangerous to get comfortable with someone that wasn’t going to stick around after the Cassandra case was closed.

He has to be in control, has to keep everyone at arms’ length or he’ll get hurt.

Again.
