Chapter 11
The Sea Noose
I was sitting in a chair on the balcony, my legs pulled up to my chest, as clouds filled the sky. The bright, clear morning had been overrun by dark, gray clouds, a warning for the storm to come. There was wind, though it wasn't that noticeable. It ruffled your hair slightly and made the golden grass sway, but other than that, there was no sign of it.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes as I exhaled. I knew that is was sometime before ten and that Vitas would be up soon and looking for me. I couldn't bring myself to move, I was too content where I was sitting. I air was chilly, the slight breeze making it more so, and I wrapped my arms around me tighter. I sighed and let my head fall forward onto my knees.
I missed Cian. I knew that he had to leave because those idiots didn't know how to do their job, but I just wished he was here and not over in Virginia. I just... missed him. I know that he never came over that much to sit and visit with me, but I missed having him here. I missed the times when he would come over and we'd sit on the couch, holding hands or when we'd cuddle with each other.
We were like high schoolers with crushes on each other, though we didn't have our friends pass notes to each other. We talked about it and agreed to move slowly. But now that he was in Virginia, again, I just... I wanted him back here. I wanted him to stay with me. I wanted... I wanted him.
I groaned and stood up quickly, shoving the chair away from me. I grabbed the painting I had finished coloring and all of the supplied, pilling them in my arms and walked back into the house. When I was kneeling and putting away the supplies in the two bottom drawers, Vitas had found me. I smiled softly and patted his head gently, and stood up. He nuzzled my hand and followed me down the stairs, waiting patiently as I locked the door once more.
Vitas trotted in front of me into the kitchen, wagging his tail as I grabbed another can of dog food and opened it. He lead the way once more into the living room, butting his head against my legs as I emptied the can of food into his bowl. He happily started eating as I took his water bowl and took it into the kitchen. I filled it with fresh water and brought it back over to him, setting it down next to his bowl.
I added another log to the slowly diminishing fire. I sat on the couch, crossing my legs and yawned. Now I was getting tired. I yawned again and Vitas looked up at me, pausing momentarily from drinking his water.
“Only three more days, sweet.” he huffed and finished drinking, coming over and resting at my feet. He layed his head on his paws, his eyes closed and his tail thumped against the floor gently, the soft swishing of it the only sound in the room other than the now crackling wood. I yawned again and pulled my legs up onto the couch and layed down on my side, pillowing my arms underneath my head. I closed my eyes and my breathing evened, the warm fire lulling me into a light doze.
Vitas decided to go back to sleep, his soft breathing joining mine.
