Muridia and Faeries
"There are three known realms in this world. The land of light, the land of dark, and the middle road. Here in Muridia is the land of light. The realm that you belong in is called Erindel, the middle road. It's the bridge between the light and dark realms. The land of dark is Oblivian; the end of all things good as we know it. The realms have exsisted over a millenia. Erindel was the first. It didn't take very long for the people to realize that good and evil could not belong in the same place. So to correct this, two more realms were fashioned. One for the good and one for the evil. You were sent there whether you liked it or not. The rest of the people, the ones who were neither good nor evil, stayed in Erindel only to be sent to one of the other realms when they finally gave into one of the other sides.
"If there were ever any wars, and there were many, they were fought in Erindel. Erindel was neutral ground, the other realms could do anything they wished as long as it stayed within Erindel. Soon even wars were not held in Erindel anymore. What good was there for a war if you could sneak into the other realm and cause all the destruction you wanted? Besides people, other things were sent to the middel road. Vampires, witches, zombies, were-animals, anything that neither realm would claim. This didn't mean that the realm's couldn't influence these creatures and have them do their bidding. It happened all the time. It still does, as all of you know.
"The masters were brought forth when the realms couldn't find peace with each other. There were four: The master of passion, the master of beasts, the master of knowledge, and the master of warriors. Each had a specific purpose to ensure that Muridia thrived and that Oblivian stayed where it belonged. It wasn't easy for them, that was to be expected. But within time, the four were able to restore Muridia to what it once was. A beautiful haven. Then the faeries came.
"The people of Muridia have a certain respect for all creatures. It was one way we were able to live without turning on one another. But no one knew where the faeries had come from. Many thought they had entered our world from Oblivian. This casued panic, they didn't want creatures of the dark to taint their realm. Which is understandable, but these faeries were not very big. They were delicates creatures, no more than six inches with the most beautiful wings. But Muridians would not be deceived by sheer beauty. So they started killing them. Faeries are hard beings to kill." Heilyn leaned forward and finally opened up the book in front of him. Brett was shocked, on one of the pages was a picture of a faerie. And it looked just like her.
"The only way to kill a faerie is to strip them of their wings, and that took a considerable amount of strength and power. Once their wings were gone they had to be covered in salt and then burned alive. It was the worst thing that I have ever had to witness, even to this day. The people that had no intention of harming the faeries hid them inside their homes. If they were discovered hiding them the punishment was death. I was two thousand years old at that time, still very young to most people. And also heir to the rule of Muridia. So when I was found harboring hundreds of faeries, you can understand that it didn't go over well.
"I should mention that during this time there were no masters. It was the period of time where the new ones were soon to be called forth. Also, the faeries had turned on the Muridian's that were trying to kill them. They would lash out with all of their power to destroy them. Faeries are very powerful creatures. They can exhibit the same amount of power that you or I can. It was magnificant.
"My own father sentenced me to death for conspiring with the enemy. Mailynn had been locked away because she was trying everything she could to stop my execution. The faeries that had been with me were caged at my feet. We were all going to die together, as traitors. Through all of this the faeries remained silent, until they were about to open the first cage. Kairi had been the last faerie found in my home and there had been no more room in the cages for her, so she had been put into her own. She called out to the guard to stop what he was doing. Of course he didn't. Why should he listen to something that was so small? What happened next is something that no one in Muridia will forget. Kairi began to glow a white hot purple. It was beautiful and blinding at the same time. The cage started to shake until it finally broke apart. It broke because it could not contain what was inside it. Kairi had grown to an adult size. And she was amazingly beautiful. Hair like fire, her skin so pale that we could see the blood running beneath her flesh, and light lavendar eyes." He told them, he never took his eyes off of Brett as he spoke. God, she looked so much like Kairi, and now he knew why.
"If people hadn't panicked before, they did now. A faerie that could grow into someone our size, it would make them harder to kill. Kairi faced the crowd with so much courage. She had to have it, she was the queen of all faeries. It was how she was able to grow. She came to me and unlocked my chains by just touching them. She thanked me for keeping her and her people safe. Then she kissed me. It wasn't just a kiss, it was 'the' kiss. The masters kiss. As she kissed me, lights surrounded us. Orange, red, yellow, and gold. They swirled around us and finally soaked into my skin. When it was over, she pulled away and turned back to the crowd. This is what she said to them: 'I am the carrier of the new masters. One has been chosen right now. All of you are responsible for killing my people. For that you will be punished. An eternity in Oblivian. You have turned on one of your most sacred vows; The respect for all creatures. You never gave us a chance to explain the reasons that we were here. You just started killing us. But not anymore. Now you will be the ones judged.'
"Kairi began to glow white. The light spread from her body into the crowd, marking each of them. All those who had killed faeries were unable to hide from her light in Muridia. When it was finished, Kariri fell the ground. She had died. She set out to do what needed to be done, and once she had accomplished that, there was no more need for her. As soon as her body hit the ground the other cages busted open and the caged faeries were free. The flew up with the rest of the faeries. They had remained so silent that no one had known the rest were above us. Even the beating of their wings was unheard. They began to mourn. Each of them glowed their own unique color, filling the night sky brighter than the stars ever could.
"The people in the crowd began to shriek. They were seeing things that only they could. Running away did no good, what ever was after them caught them and sucked them into the ground. But their journey didn't stop there, no, it was just the way out of Muridia. I couldn't think of what it must have been like for them. After they were gone, Kairi's sister, Melanie, came down from among them. She told me that now it was my job to find the other three masters. To keep Muridia safe. For helping them live, she promised that she and the rest of the faeries would help keep Muridia beautiful. They had a certain way to help things grow and thrive long after they should. Kairi reverted back to her smaller form at this time. The faeries buried her in a secret place that only I knew of.
"The other three masters were found and called forth within the next year. We ruled for three thousand years before our turn was over. The thousand years that followed were some of the worst. The faeries started to die, and with them, Muridia. Our realm had become dependant on them to keep it living. No one knew why the faeries were dying. The only thing we knew was that when they died, they were sent to the middle road, being twisted and corrupted into the things that you fear. We believed that it was because of Oblivian. That somehow they were killing the faeries in an attempt to cripple our world. We still believe that. And this brings us to you, Brett. And why you have wings on your back.
"You are their savior. The one who will bring faeries back to Muridia. Saving the ones from the middle road and sending them back here. You are their lost queen. She lives inside of you, to break free at any time. With all the power that's been running through you recently I'm surprised that it hasn't happened yet. And I don't care whether or not you want this to happen. Because it's going to and there is nothing you can do to stop it. You are not only a master of Muridia and the Middle road, but you are the Queen of Faeries." Brett didn't know what to say. The queen of faeries? Didn't she have enough going on already? Hundreds of thoughts ran through her mind in a matter of seconds. It felt like a question overload. Kristian and Jacob just stared at her. So faeries were real. And they weren't evil, or rather, they didn't start out evil. That was a good thing to know.
"Welcome back." Mailynn said with a smile. Everyone looked at her and then to where she was looking. Faye had regained consciousness and was sitting up on the couch. They had all been so deep into Heilyn's talking that they didn't notice she had sat up. Not only was she awake, there were some changes about her.
