Control Unit
I got part way through this and went "wait... Rel has issues with electronics" so I poked him and he explained. Seems that after his powers arose, his issues with electronics kind of settled down. Kind of. Raya is totally going "nyah nyah" and poking Rel's ego. And I'm pretty certain it's working. Read, Review and Enjoy. The nanobots were kind of cool. Once the machines were installed everyone was allowed to go back to their apartments and Rel found his control unit sitting on the coffee table. He immediately hacked the system and used the nanobots to explore the very system of the control unit. Then he altered the nanobots, unlocking their actual potential instead of their lamed down, child’s toy. They immediately began making more of themselves out of his garbage. Out of his garbage. It would take several days for them to make a hundred. So Rel got bored and took five of the original group and sent them down the elevator shaft and into an empty apartment, where there was another hundred thousand nanobots and control unit waiting. It took him two hours to hack into the control unit and convert the nanobots from that unit, to his own. Yeah. Kind of cool. Kind of weak security system though.Muan watched the nanobots move around the apartment, apparently capable of seeing them, for he followed them exactly with his eyes. When the nanobots settled in the garbage, Muan sat beside Rel and watched Rel control the nanobots and try to hack the ones in the empty apartment. Once those were hacked? Rel told them to go to other empty apartments and do exactly what he had just had them do. Each of the original five took a portion of the hundred thousand and off they went. Telling the others what to do. Because Rel had told them to. The elevator binged as Rel gained another four hundred thousand nanobots. The last group was having issues, so Rel sent the other four groups to aid the fifth before he looked to the elevator. Mari stood there, arms crossed, eyes still red. Rel smiled innocently. “Phone call for you,” she tossed the phone at him.Rel caught it and frowned, putting the phone by his ear, “hullo?”“Rel? Or. Do you go by Lel now?” a young male voice asked. Five or six years old perhaps. “Lel, I suppose, who is this?”“Raya Tele.”“Raya. As in-”“We talked the other day online.”“You’re a Tele? Son of a bitch,” Rel stood and dropped the control unit on the couch, “why didn’t you tell me before?”“Because you dislike the Tele corporation. You’ve hacked into five hundred thousand nanobots.”Rel shook his head, “you were expecting something else?”“More than five hundred thousand. I thought you were smarter than that.”“What are you saying?”“Each drone that flies by you has twenty million nanobots in them. Tell me. Would you be able to hack their systems, then tell them to continue on their way?”“Probably. Are you challenging me?”“Consider it a… job interview. I want you to use my toys in all the ways you aren’t supposed to use my toys. Oh. And I want you to prevent me from hacking yours.”“Hacking-” Rel’s control center began beeping in a very bad way, “son of a bitch.”Muan plucked up the control unit and cocked his head to the side, poking the unit several times and changing the beeps to a completed, happy beep.“Is this a game to you?”“No. Not a game at all. I can see you with my bots, you would be able to find me with your bots. Anywhere your bots go, you can see into. If you can accomplish this, I will give you a job.”“I don’t want a job from the Tele Corporation.”“You’ll want this one. Not to mention. If you can accomplish this, you will have to beat me. And the Tele Corporation. So. To the best man go the spoils.”The control unit began beeping again and Muan got one of those panicked looks on his face. Rel dropped the phone and snatched the unit from Muan. He now had five nanobots. “Fuck.”And they were all five floors below him and surrounded by Raya’s bots. Rel jabbed buttons, hacked the security protocols and tried to keep the others out. But he lost three more. With two left, Rel slid through the firewall and slammed up his own, the same firewall he used on his personal computers. Number two broke. Number one limped along. Rel, annoyed, threw power through the unit and into the nanobot. The bots around it fried and dropped to the floor. He had just. Used power through the nanobots. Rel dropped to the couch and huffed out a breath. “A system you don’t break when you touch?” Mari asked.“Computer language is still a language,” Rel muttered, “I know the language, I know how to use it properly, I’ve just not really had a chance to use it until the program’s laptop.”“You. Taught yourself to hack since coming to the program?” Mari said, sounding like she didn’t believe him.“Yes.”“So why the long look?”“I. Uhm. Just lost all but one nanobot.”“Oh. Well, I guess you’re fucked.” Mari said, “what’s he want you to do?”“Uhm. A war via nanobots between him and me. He has made it his own personal toy.”“His own personal toy?” Mari huffed out, “you can see everywhere they are. If he wins, he doesn’t need the economy to destroy your companies, he can destroy them from the inside. Literally.”Rel tapped the multiply button as he looked at Mari, finger tapping the button in a bit of a panic, “really. Destroy everything I’ve made with that alone?”“Yes.”Multiply. Multiply. Multiply. “Lel?”“Mm? I mean, yes?” Rel corrected himself as Muan shifted closer to him. “Una says we’re leaving in about a week.”“A week? That’s just long enough for the product to take to every home.”“Sounds about right.”“If it’s in every home, it’ll be in power plants. No?”“Should reach them pretty soon, yes, why?”Rel’s heart did a little beat. With nanobots? He could destroy the power plants from the inside out. If he could keep Raya out of his nanobots long enough to spread them across the nations. Could it be that easy? “Just wondering.”“Lel.” Mari said in a tone of a woman who was expecting an answer, “Una is leaving in a week or so. I have to go with him.”Muan’s mind poked Rel’s. A gentle nudge and the Sidhe was pointing out why Mari was insisting on stating that over again. Oh. Good thing he had someone else to explain to him. “I’ll go with you then. I’m sure the program will understand, I mean, if you’re leaving, right? I go with you and Muan goes with me.”“What about your parents?”“It’s not forever, we’ll see them again,” Rel nodded, still tapping the multiply button. The nanobot was flying in a circle, limping along and not receiving signals apparently. His use of the power had harmed his own bot, “although I think we should talk to them about it, see how they feel about us going off one way and them another.”.
