Class Of 98 - 9
Melissa is busy talking on the phone trying to get Sean and Amy back together again. "Kristen you know that they belong together. So will you help? Rachel is already willing to help out."
"What do I have to do?" Kristen asks.
"Just keep Amy's attention away from the doors for most of the evening." Melissa says.
"Fine I will help. I hope this will work." Kristen says.
"It has to work. See you at the reunion." Melissa says.
"See you." Kristen replies and hangs up. Melissa hangs up the phone then. She picks up a small photo. It is a picture of four girls. Two of them are Amy and herself. The other two are Kristen with her long curly brown hair and Rachel with her short brown hair.
"Well Amy, you always helped me out so now it is my turn to help you out." She says putting down the picture and gets ready for bed and goes to sleep.
The next day I wake up at 5:30a.m. and I start to get dressed and ready for the breakfast. I walk out side at 6:45a.m. to see Mark sitting on the porch in at suit. "Well are you ready to go to the breakfast." I say walking out of the house wearing a black summer dress with my hair up in a slight wave.
"Wow. You look great. You will probably be the only chaperon that looks like she can be one of the students." He says.
"Thanks. We had better get going." I say. We walk to the car, get in and drive in the direction of the school. I drive past and then head for the mall. I pull in to the parking lot and park. There are 8 busses in the lot. We get out. About 10 minutes later we get on to the busses. "Mark where is the breakfast at any way?" I ask before I get on a bus.
"The same place you went for your trip. The Spirit of Chicago." He says.
I then think about my own trip.
"Well Leslie we made it." I said putting my arm around the neck of the girl standing next to me.
"Yes we have girl. Plus we got through '0' hour gym." She said giving me a hug. We board the buses and get on our way. On the bus a tape was shown of the years activities and the teachers, staff and some of the classes saying good-bye to the seniors. The rest of the day was great we got to the boat boarded and then everyone talked about his or her futures. After we ate we had senior superlatives, and then danced in to dock. By the end of the cruise we did not want to leave the boat.
"Well Miss. Showers. I am glad you could come. My name is Mrs. Floures the principle of the school now. It is a pleasure to have a real live example of what a student from Morton West High School can do." The principle says shaking my hand.
"Thank you for letting me come. I really appreciate the chance to come and spend some time with the class." I say. We get in to the bus and leave. Again I sit and watch another senior video, but it is different this time this is not my class but the new wave of successful people. The day is just like it was at my own breakfast but instead of sitting with my friends I am sitting with the chaperons. After breakfast the senior class surprises me.
"Today we would like give a special thanks to Amy Showers who is one of the chaperons and a graduate of our high school. Would you say a few words?" The senior class president asks holding out the microphone.
I stand up and the whole boat vibrates with the clapping of the seniors. "Thank you. It was only ten years ago that I was on this boat like all of you. A senior. Right now you are on a threshold to the rest of your lives and I am proud that you have all made it here today. Thank you for letting me participate today and at the graduation on Sunday." I say and sit down. Senior superlatives are done and the dancing commences. Two hours pass by. Mark and I are doing last minute shopping. He is with me in a dress shop trying to help me pick out a dress for the reunion and the graduation ceremony. "How about this one look?" I ask walking out of the dressing room. The dress is a long ball gown type dress that ties at the neck and has no sleeves. The main part of the dress is black but there is a slit that shows a red under lay.
"I like it. That really looks like your style." He says.
"Well then this is the dress I will where tonight and at the graduation." I say walking back in to the dressing room.
"Are you and Sean really not going to get married?" Mark asks.
"It is a really long story and it is very hard to talk about it right now." I say and walk out of the dressing room and pay for the dress. "By the way, do you have a date for the prom?"
"Yea. Her name is Jessica. She is really nice; she is kind of like you. Nice, sweet, and caring." He says while we walk out of the store.
"That is great." I say as we get in to my car. I drive home and start getting ready for the reunion.
"Are you sure this will work?" Sean asks Melissa as she helps him with his necktie. She is dressed in a black dress with short sleeves with a cream sweater to go over it because is a chilly May night.
"I am sure. Kristen was at the mall when she bought her dress. That was how I came up with the idea for the old fashion gentleman caller." She says handing him a black coat to top off the outfit. "You do have the engagement ring right?"
"Actually I went and I got a different style." He says opening up a small ring box. The ring is made of silver. It is a Clan dan ring but the crown had a small setting of diamonds.
"That is more beautiful than the first one you gave her." Melissa says.
"She always said she loved the design so I thought I would get it for her. I was planning on making it look like she lost the ring but take the old one and change it to this one and give it to her." He says putting the box in the coat pocket. "Well, how do I look?" He asks spinning around.
"Perfect. Oh don't forget this." She says holding up a box that contains wrist corsage. The flowers were red but the ribbon was black.
"Thanks for everything." He says taking the box.
Melissa looks over at the clock. "It is 7:45 and we are fashionably late."
"Let me lead you to the door madam." He says holding out his elbow.
"Thank you." She says as he leads her out of the house and to the car.
"What do I have to do?" Kristen asks.
"Just keep Amy's attention away from the doors for most of the evening." Melissa says.
