Chapter 9
Chapter 009: The Road to Xasthur Part Three:
Rosenbrim walked beside her with his hands confined by some strange herbs that prevented him from using any of his magic. He felt so weak and incomplete without being able to touch or tap into his power. Worse was the fact that he knew not where he was going except eastward into the dark known world were humans and demons cohabitated. Only the West had remained pure, and untouched by the demons until now. He felt so sick; his heart felt as though it would break. He knew it was highly likely that he would never see Stephen again. His head was lowered in defeat as he continued his walk.
****************
Jasper was not aware of how long he had been out. The last thing he remembered was the bitch's dagger handle coming at his head. The swordsman felt that his sore body had been bandaged during his slumber. He had felt hands pressing down a cloth to his brow.
His pale sapphire jewels gazed upon Johan kneeling beside him on the roadside. Neither one spoke for a time. The silence felt awkward and yet it was less awkward then if either them had spoken yet. Johan's fingers lightly caressed the side of Jasper's face. Jasper said nothing about being touched so affectionately.
Finally Jasper broke the silence as his hand pulled Johan's hand away from his face, "What of Rosenbrim?"
The novice warrior turned his face away from Jasper. Jasper knew that meant Johan could not bare to tell him what had become of the dark haired wizard.
Jasper inquired, "How long?"
"Half a day and into this morning. What should we do now, Sir Stormblade?" He inquired formally of Jasper.
Jasper was silent. He simply laid there thinking for a time. He tried to think of what he should do now. The silver haired warrior was not used to giving orders that were completely his own. It was his first time he would be truly acting without a superior or advice.
Finally the words came, "We continue on to Xasthur. We have to stop the army from marching on HammerFall. Help me mount up. We should leave quickly. Who knows how much time we have lost."
The novice warrior seemed reluctant at first; but he took a firm hold of the arm and helped Jasper to stand. Jasper then realized how badly he hurt. His whole back throbbed with pain; but he had been lucky. The wound had not been aimed near his spine so he was able to move despite the discomfort it gave him. He mounted up onto the horse with aid from Johan. Soon the two were riding towards Xasthur once more; the wind flowing through their hair as the hooves pounded against the dirt road.
