Chapter 39- Battle of Darkness: Part 1
First part of a two part fighting scene! Yes, we haven\'t really seen many of those, but things are starting to heat up now!
Chapter 39
John, Jessica, Aivon, and Midas made thier way out of the castle and through the city streets. It didn\'t take them long to find the source of the commotion. The bodies of guards lay crumpled on the streets, some of them barely concious, others barely alive, and even others barely recognizable. Standing near the gate was the largest man John had ever lay eyes on, towering at around seven feet and carrying a large axe on his back. He wore a leather armor that seemed to have strange words written on them, most likely the demonic language that Aivon knew.
\"John Aaron... we finally meet. I have been hoping to see you, ever since I learned of my brother\'s death at your hands.\"
\"Then you must be Hieas, the demon that terrorized this land!\" John shouted in reply. If this demon was the cause of this all, then beating him would only appease half his rage, for the other half still stood on Beras\' shoulders for adminstering the killing blow.
\"I\'m glad you know of me... it saves for introductions. Yes, I am Hieas, soon to be ruler of this world. You don\'t know how soon however.\"
\"We won\'t let that happen!\" Jessica shouted fiercely.
\"That\'s right, we\'ll stop you from getting the final key no matter what!\" Aivon added.
\"So you know of our mission... well, if your hoping I\'d be afraid or impressed, then your sadly mistaken. There is nothing left you can do. So why not accept your fate, and serve me? I am willing to forgive your mistake of killing Atrois.\"
\"Like hell. I\'d rather face that monster locked away behind the seal then serve you.\" Midas said.
\"So be it... I have given you your chance to live.\" Hieas bent down and placed his hand on the floor. Materalizing from nowhere, as if several invisible people had taken chalk and were running around them, a circle appeared, surrounding everyone. Shapes and designs etched themselves on the ground, as Hieas mubled something in an unintelligable voice. Soon a light shot out of the center...
When John dared to open his eyes again, he found he was in a dim lit, circular room. Touches adored the walls of the room, and there in the center was a pedstal where two lights could be seen. Two orbs, one with blue flame and another with red, stood on two portions of the pedstal that had sunk into the ground. A third portion held a spot where something of a similar size as the two orbs could rest.
\"Where are we?\"
\"Not sure... keep your guard up.\" Midas said.
\"Welcome to your doom...\" The lights of the torches suddenly grew brighter, illuminating the entire room. It was bare, save for more of the strange carvings like those found at the temple of the seer. \"I have decided... that since you wish to defy fate\'s will, this will be an adequate place for you to die.\" Hieas said.
\"John, Jessica, Aivon, I\'ll fight him alone. Leave it to me.\"
\"No way!\" Aivon protested at once. \"You aren\'t fighting this fight-\"
\"If I fail,\" Midas continues, as if Aivon hadn\'t spoken at all, \"then pick up the battle once more. He must be stopped at all costs, but it doesn\'t mean we all have to die in the attempt.\"
Walking foward to face Hieas, Midas drew his two daggers. \"Hehehe... so the fool comes to seek his own death.\"
\"Death is what I seek, although it\'s yours I\'m after.\" Midas taunted back.
\"Then bare witness to your demise.\" With that, Hieas reached for his axe.
Midas however was quick to react. Slashing in the air, he shouted \"Wind Cutter!\" as several shots of energy burst forth and homed in on Hieas. Near effortlessly, Hieas swung his axe, as if attempting to slice open something directly in front of him. The blast of wind that shot out from the sheer force at which he swung, sent the energy attack Midas cast deflecting off to different directions. \"Impossible!\"
\"Hehehe... fool. I am no ordinary, low class demon like Beras or my brother. I am far more powerful then those two combined.\"
\"So you like to believe. We\'ll see what your really made of, right now! Wind Blade!\" Midas slashed straight down with his blade and sent a large Blade-like energy at Hieas. Jessica remembered this attack and the power it generated. Hieas merely thrust out his hand this time, as if his mere touch could render the attack useless. \"Water Column.\" At once a torrent of water shot out straight from his hand, slamming into the attack. As the two elements clashed, the both suddenly dispelled each other.
\"Damn... what an attack.\" Midas said.
Aivon was at odd ends too. Experience had taught him that earth and fire based powers got along well, as did wind and water. Seeing two elements that normally assist one other collide like that seemed to unnerve him. It seemed he had misjudged Hieas power from the start, and this was a painful awakening to his nature.
\"Impressive... Your spellcasting is superb, for a human.\"
\"Your not half bad either Hieas,\" Midas said calmly. \"Still, this fight can only have one winner... and it will be me!\"
\"Quite sure of yourself aren\'t you? Well come on, show me your best!\"
\"If you insist.\" Midas focused himself, as if drawing energy from somewhere outside his body. His eyes closed as he steadied himself for what felt like his next attack. John and Jessica thought so anyway, but Aivon merely seemed shocked. \"Shadowwalk...\" Suddenly, Midas vanished completely. John and Jessica looked around, trying to find him.
\"Where did he go?\" Jessica asked.
\"Not sure... Aivon, did you-\"
But Aivon wasn\'t really listening, but recalling something he and Midas discussed earlier in the morning.

The sun had barely risen as Aivon left his room. Walking down the hallway, away fro him, was Midas. Aivon felt a burning to ask him something, something that bothered him since they had first met. As they were alone, he felt now would be a good a time as any.
\"Midas... could I have a word?\"
\"What is it?\"
They both walked in the empty hallway, neither looking at one another. Silence seemed to streach one for what felt like hours. Finally it was broken. \"Midas, who-?\"
\"I won\'t tell you.\" Midas quickly responded, as if guessing the question.
\"Why not? We have the right to know after all.\"
\"No you don\'t. It\'s not like you\'ll understand.\"
Aivon stopped and Midas stopped to, both of them staring at each other. \"What are you? Your not human, yet I don\'t feel a heavenly or demonic presence in you. I see you and I see...\"
\"Nothing. From where I came, and to where I shall return, it\'s nothing.\" Aivon looked at him puzzlingly. \"You need not concern yourself. Even if I told you anyway... it wouldn\'t really matter. It won\'t change anything.\"
Midas walked off to the outside of the inn to wait for John and Jessica to awaken. Aivon went too, wondering more about Midas and who, or what, he seemed to be.
