Coincidence
His strong hands came up to her face, gently caressing her skin, “Your eyes mesmerize me, you know that?” Matt said, in the gentlest of whispers.
Elizabeth looked up at him, into his icy blue eyes, lost in the feelings deep within her. I can’t believe this is happening, she thought. His hands traveled down to her lips, slowly tracing their outline, barely touching her face. She couldn’t take the sexual tension between them, it was becoming too much to bare. His hand moved lower, to her neck, stroking it slowly, his eyes still boring into hers. His lips c ame down, ever so slowly, brushing against her lips but moving slower still to her neck. She could feel his soft full lips on her neck. Trembling beneath him her hands came to his sweater, holding him tightly to her. She could feel his heat radiating from his body. Her senses were heightened, she became aware of every move…every soft touch. His lips softly made their way up the side of her neck to kiss along her jaw and just as he reached her lips she moaned.
“Liz, wake up! Tell me all about your date with Mark!” Lucy said, shaking Liz awake from her deep sleep.
“Not now Luce, go away” she moaned, wanting to return to her dream.
“Nunhun girl, wake up, rise and shine! Plus, you have to get to work in like two hours so you need to get cracking on this story.” Lucy said, handing Liz her cup of coffee as she sleeply rested her body on her forearms as she rose from her bed.
‘She could get used to this,’ she thought, ‘Hmmmm, a morning coffee brought to her in bed, I’m going to miss this when she moves out.’
A guilty feeling suddenly made its way to the pit of her stomach, making her groan and want to return to her dream. Okay….So maybe it wasn’t a good idea to lie to Mark about being sick. She had to leave though, she was just so upset with him about the way he acted with Matt. Last time she checked, she was a grown woman who could, and had, been making her own choices. Who was he to decide who she could and could not date? Then again, friends should warn each other about situations like this, maybe, he was simply trying to be her friend. She really didn’t want to think about all this mess so early in the morning.
Lucy looked at her expectantly so she sighed and started her story.
“So basically, you had two dates in one night?” Lucy concluded after hearing the end of Liz’s story.
“That’s not what she said Luce, stop jumping to conclusions” Robert said, intrigued by Liz’s dilemma, “She’s not sure what she wants right now, and this Matt guy seems a little fishy.”
“He does not seem fishy at all! I just told you the story Rob, weren’t you listening?” Liz said, a little exasperated.
“Hey, I missed the whole beginning part of this story….all I got was Mark warned you about this Matt guy being in some trouble, you mentioned some family issues and that he’s hot. Oh and has blue eyes. Hmm, and a gorgeous body...oh, also something about defined arm muscles…Liz, I already don’t like this guy” Robert said, smiling mischievously at Liz.
“Yeah, he heard you, but he’s becoming a bit overprotective in his old age” Liz teased, throwing a piece of toast at her boyfriend.
“Luce, he didn’t ask me for my number. What if he’s not interested. I mean, okay, so we kind of had a great night, but I might have imagined all that.” Liz said, looking a little down.
“Well sweetie, you have one hell of a story there, and unfortunately, as much as I’d like to stay and chat, I gotta meet my boys down at the courts. Oh, and guys can be dense sometimes, trust me I know. I wouldn’t worry so much about not asking for your number. He walked you home remember?” Rob said, getting up and placing a kiss on each of the girl’s cheeks.
“Have fun,” they both mumbled, returning to their conversation on the previous night.
Robert chuckled to himself as he exited the apartment. Lately he had found himself being suckered into the drama that was Lucy and all that came with it. Somehow he knew Lucy was partly behind some of this. That was how his girlfriend worked. What he realized though, was that none of it bothered him. He was starting to like the drama actually, it was better than a boring old soap opera.
Holding his basketball under his arm he approached the city park. The basketball courts were just beside the park hidden a little from the tall oak trees. The unmistakable laugh of his friend Danny could be heard coming from the closest court.
“Hey Rob, come over here and meet my friend, Tony” Danny said, when he spotted Robert trotting over to the court.
Robert eyed the man suspiciously. He was a big guy, kind of greasy and had this big huge dopey smile on his face.
Laughing, Danny patted Tony on the back, a maneuver a little difficult to accomplish due to his size, “Congratulations man, you won’t be sleeping for a few years to come,” Danny laughed, as he grabbed the ball from Robert.
‘I’m obviously missing something’ Robert thought to himself, as he walked over to shake the man’s hand.
“Hey, nice to meet you, I’m Rob,” Robert said, still a little weirded out by the two’s behavior.
Laughing, Tony grabbed Robert’s hand and pulled him into a big bear hug, “Nice to meet you to man,” Tony said, patting Robert on the back, “my wife just had our son so I’m a little over friendly right now.”
Robert smiled, finally understanding what was going on.
“Hey, here comes the godfather to be” Danny called out from under the hoop, barely looking up as he dribbled the ball.
“Matt, where the hell have you been man, I’ve been calling you all morning.” Tony angrily said, as the newcomer approached the group.
“Sorry man, I overslept” Matt said sheepishly, remembering why he overslept. After his night with Liz his mind was whirling, all he could think about was her. Her, eyes, her perfect lips, her shy demeanor, she was so perfect, he couldn’t believe his luck.
“Well someone please tell sleeping beauty over here the good news then” Tony said, a little skittishly.
Laughing Robert turned to the stranger, introduced himself and retold him what he just heard. Matthew, a little embarrassed, turned to Tony and congratulated him.
“So you going to tell me why a guy who is usually up at 6 in the morning doing push ups or bench presses or whatever the hell it is you do was sleeping at 11 am?” Tony asked, a little curiously.
“I saw her again” Matt sighed, sitting on the bench, pushing his hair away from his face, “And she’s absolutely amazing. Tony man, this girl, she’s driving me crazy, I couldn’t sleep all night, I kept thinking of her. I didn’t even get her number man, but I know where she lives, I walked her home. How am I suppose to ask her out, I don’t have her number and man, this girl..she’s amazing” Matt sighed, stopping for a breath.
Danny, having long ago lost track of the basketball stood there under the hoop with his mouth hanging open. “What the hell are you on, bro? What’s wrong with you? What happened to lov’em and leave’em?” Danny and Matt used to always hit the clubs together, back when Johnny was still alive. They had seen their fare share of women until Lianna came along. She had sure messed up Matt, but after a while, he had gotten back into the groove of things. His numbers were higher up there than Danny’s, not that he was keeping track of course.
“For once, Danny keep track. I take it you’re talking about the emerald-eyed goddess you fumbled over the other day?” Tony said, smiling widely at his love-struck friend.
“Hunh…oh yeah, Liz” Matt said, staring back out into space.
“Aww, man, you’re in no condition to play basketball. Get the hell out of here so we "guys" can finally start this game” Danny whined, reaching for the discarded ball that had rooled off towards the bench.
Robert just stood there, intrigued, listening in on this suddenly interesting conversation.
“I can help you get her number,” he said casually, trying to hide his smile.
Matt looked up sharply at the guy who just spoke, wondering how this guy could possibly know his Liz. ‘His Liz’ hunh…look at that…he must really have it bad for her. No wonder he couldn’t sleep at all last night. “Wait, you’re Danny’s friend from somewhere down south right? How could you know Liz?” Matt demanded, wondering who the hell this guy was.
Laughing to himself, Robert stole the ball from Danny and shot a three-pointer from the bench, “I live with her.”
