A Moment Ruined
Jason looked down at Veronica. Both were flushed and a little bit confused. They heard the doorbell ring again, and with the moment gone, Jason jumped up, finding no reason not to open the door. He headed for his bed room door when he heard Veronica behind him. \"No, wait!\" she hissed. \"It might be Alex. He came by eailier, but he didn\'t bother to come in your room. I think he knows I\'m here.\" Veronica looked frightened as she kneeled on the edge of the bed. Jason looked from her to the door and then back to her before he heard to front door being unlocked and opened.
\"Jay? I know you\'re here. You\'re light is on.\" \"Shit! I forgot he had a key\" Jason said as he backed away from the door. \"Please don\'t let him take me. I know what I saw, and I just don\'t think I can handle him right now.\" Veronica now had tears rolling down her cheeks again. \'Think, dammit, think\' Jason ordered himself as he heard Alex into the kitchen. \"Come with me.\" he said, dragging Veronica off the bed and toward the door.
\"Nooo, no!\" she exclaimed, trying to wiggle out of his grasp.
\"We can\'t go out there!\"
\"Do you trust me?\" Jason turned and looked at her. She looked into his eyes. They were a soft, liquid brown, and as she stared she felt immense comfort and power at the same time. She nodded her head yes.
\"Then follow me.\" Jason cracked his door open, peaked out, and made a mad dash, Veronica in toe, down the hall to his mother\'s room.
\"In here\" he wispered opening the closet door. \"Be very quiet.\" he said closing the door behind her.
\"I\'ll come get you when he\'s gone.\" With that said, Jason rushed out of his mother\'s room and to the top of the stairs, just in time to greet Alex.
\"Why didn\'t you answer me, turd?\" Alex said, barging past Jason and into his room. \"And where\'s my woman?\"
\"I have nothing that belongs to you.\" Jason responded in a calm voice, standing behind Alex.
\"Cut the shit. Where\'s Veronica?\"
\"Seeing as though she is not you\'re property, and I do not know where she is, I repeat, I have nothing that belongs to you. Unless your talking about that old shirt I use to wash mom\'s car. You can have that back if you want.\" Alex let out a loud sigh, quickly becoming fed up with Jason\'s semantics.
\"Look, I\'m just trying to find Ronnie. Do you know where she is?\" Jason cringed at Alex\'s use of the nickname Jason had given her.
\"I am sorry, dear brother, I do not know where she is.\" Jason said, holding back his anger as he thought about how upest Veronica had been.
\"Let me look around.\" Alex said, seeing his brother\'s mood change. Jason had planned on this and with ease he allowed his brother to look around. Alex checked all the places he knew he would, and Jason congratulated himself for thinking up such a genius hiding place.
\'What just happened?\' Veronica asked herself as she sat quietly in the closet. \'Why did I kiss him back? I should have just stopped him. But it felt so good. He\'s so gentle.\' Her mind drifted off to the event that just took place. \'No!\' she screamed in her head. \'You two have been friends forever. This would ruin everthing. Not to mention, I\'m still with Alex.\' Just the thought of him, at that time, made her want to scream. \'That son of a bitch. And Sandra! I can\'t believe either one of them would do this to me. Maybe I shouldn\'t stay here tonight. I don\'t want to make things worse between me and Jay.\' Veronica sighed as she rested her head on her knees and listend to Alex start talking again.
\"Fine, she\'s not here.\" Alex concluded his search. \"But she was.\" Jason frowned. \'How did he know that?\' he thought to himself.
\"How did I know?\" Alex said, reading Jason\'s mind.
\"Her wet clothes are in the bathroom and her dry ones are in your room.\" \'Dammit!\' Jason thought, although he didn\'t let his face show his emotions.
\"Be warned.\" Alex said getting close to Jason. \"Don\'t fuck with me. You\'ll never get anything I have and you\'ll never keep anything I want.\" With that, Alex turned and ran down the stairs.
\"Catch ya later little bro.\" Alex yelled before exiting the house. Jason stood in his spot until he heard Alex\'s car speed off. He ran to his mother\'s room and found Veronica sitting in the closet, where he left her, with her knees drawn to her chest and her head resting on them. He thought she was asleep until she looked up at him with a worried expression on her face. \"I heard what he said.\" she said in almost a whisper. \"Don\'t worry about him.\" Jason said, pulling her up by the arms.
\"He\'s gone.\" He put his arms around her and pulled her into a hug. He deeply inhaled the scent of her hair and sighed. \"Let\'s get some more cake.\" he mumbled into her hair.
*Everyone saw what Veronica was thinking in that closet, so should she really go home that night or should she stay with Jason? Hmm? Any suggestions?
