Unbroken
Unbroken
Morphious looked into the darkness around him. The water and sky so black that you couldn't tell where one stopped and the other started, the only clue was the silver mist that stretched along the never ending murky surface. The small canoe shaped boat slowly made its way across the blackness, sending tiny ripples threw the water. Morphious sighed as a small breeze ruffled his shoulder length black hair, cringing at the stench of death that he could never quite get use to.
Somewhere in the distance he could hear a ringing, indicating that a soul had just passed into their world, and that it was on purpose. Turning his head just enough to look behind him at an unmoving skeleton, he gave a curt nod. instantly the skeleton came to life and began rowing the boat toward the source of the ringing.
Morphious hated his 'job' or calling as his master would say. When he was born, a human soul, his mother had went crazy and killed him and then herself. When his mother woke up in the underworld she started screaming and begging for anyway to return for a second chance, as most do. The difference though was that the man who had Morphious's job previously, fell in love with his mother. In exchange for one night with him, he would revive her for six years, six months, and six day's. She agreed and left for life right after, leaving her baby to be raised by the man, Damon, his master.
Years passed and to no surprise, Morphious learned the family business. Six years, four days, and two hours later, Morphious's mother remarried, had a baby and got 'saved' and therefore the deal was broken. Master Damon became in raged and eventually the council took him out forcing Morphious to take over.
The boat wound around an unseen bank and came to a quick yet graceful stop. Morphious stepped out of the boat, his black cloak pooling at his feet as he looked around for the spirit. Confused at not seeing the ghost like figure that usually appears after the chime, he turned to walk back to the boat. Just as he was about to step into the boat he heard a soft groan come from the floor behind him. Morphious turned around to see a solid body lying on the ground.
The first thing he noticed other then the fact that he was still a living, breathing human being, was that he looked more like an Evangeline then a human. He was a male, of that he was certain, short blonde hair the color of gold, soft pale skin, and looked to be only a young teen, not much younger then himself. With some hesitation, Morphious made his way over to the sleeping boy and kneeled beside him. Cautiously he brushed back the silk hair from the angelic face. For a moment he stayed like that, content with watching the boy's chest rise and fall while listening to the delicious heart beat.
Moments passed and the rattling of the skeleton, still waiting inside the boat, was what broke Morphious's concentration. Standing up slowly, so as not to fall over from crouching for so long, he stretched and looked at his impatient companion. Letting out another sigh, he leaned down and picked the boy up, surprised at his lightness, and made his way to the boat. Carefully, Morphious laid the angle down in the boat and covered him with a black blanket he kept for cold nights. Looking up at the skeleton he nodded again to show he was ready. In response, the skeleton shook his head, causing a rattling sound to echo in the nothingness, and began to move the boat back into the dark.
