In Memorium
A/N: This was the first poem I ever wrote and I recited it at my Great-Grandmothers funeral. This was written for and is dedicated to my Great-Grandmother Hallie Long who lived from 1888-1993 and was 105 years young when she passed on. I’ll always love you grandma. Thank you for everything, for being my first inspiration to write, my first audience, and the only one in my family who knew where I was coming from and what I was feeling. You were my support when the rest of the family gave up trying to understand me. There isn’t a Wednesday evening that goes by that I don’t miss your sugar cookies, or your warm apple pie with fresh cream poured over top, because there was always some waiting for me when we went over to your house to visit every week. I remember you always had a box of candies by your chair and you would save one of the chocolate filled ones for me because they were my favorites. I’d sit on the stool near you, eating cookies while you told me stories from days gone by. I would give almost anything to be able to hear one of your stories again. You are still a part of my heart and I know you are still watching over me. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories. My only wish was that there could have been more. This one is yours Grandma.
I Miss You
Written by Cody Thomas, age 10
I miss you dearly,
I miss you true.
My life hasn’t been the same
Since I’ve lost you.
You made such a difference in my life,
Now that you’re gone,
Every day seems like night.
I miss the twinkle in your eyes,
And the smile you always gave me
Whenever I came by.
I miss your love,
I miss your laugh,
And I give anything to have them back.
I miss your stories,
I miss your songs,
I miss how well we got along.
I know you’re in a better place,
And that we’ll be back together one day,
But that doesn’t make me stop wanting
To once more see your face.
I still dream about you almost every night
You chase away the darkness like a light.
I love you forever,
I love you true,
And I look forward to the day
When you’ll once more say
That you love me too.
End
I love you Grandma. Always.
