Author's Note

This first "chapter" is more of me explaining myself than actually writing the story.

Before I begin, let me reiterate that these characters and stories are mine. The world they live in and the stories that may follow were originally inspired by the series Invader Zim, however aside from several names and a few personality traits (and of course the title of "Irken"), you will notice that my stories retain no similarities to the cartoon. This reason and this reason alone is why I do not post this in the FanFiction category.

I have one thing that I want to make implicitly clear before I continue. In this world/culture/society that I have created, time is not measured the same. Minutes, hours, seconds, days, weeks, they remain like ours. Months as well, give or take a couple days. However, one "year", as we would think of it, is 17 months. Why 17? I don't know. Just go with it.

Keeping this in mind: In my Irken society, the age of adulthood (what we would consider "legal adult" or "age of consent") is 15, man or woman. That's 15 of THEIR years, not ours. Doing the math (for anyone who cares: 15 years x 17 months, then divide the result by 12 months), that makes a 15-year-old Irken a 21-year-old man in our years. So if you feel like flaming me for pedophilia, don't. A 15-year-old Irken is not a minor in their society, nor in ours.

That being said, in later stories I may write of sexual content between what would be considered minors. I will properly warn/disclaimer/flag such content. Also, no adult/child relations. Only child/child or adult/adult. Not sure if it makes a difference, but for those of you who cared, there you go.

Well, now that that's out of the way, let's get on with it, shall we?

P.S. -- I don't write short stories often because I think they all suck after I've written them, but I want to give this a try. I may end up scrapping the whole thing, but then again I may not. I've read much worse than what I've written, so I think maybe I can do this. Maybe. Go easy on me. =P
