Love Notes

There's this guy who comes into the music store in the mall everyday around four. He would sample-listen to CD’s, From A to Z in all sections, for about an hour and then leaves. He doesn't buy a CD unless it's a Thursday, and then it would be the CD that he was listening to at the end of the hour.

He never speaks and doesn't look at the people working or shopping in there. He always has something in his mouth like a sucker. It has to be an oral thing. Also, he always wears that dingy green army coat with strange patches and pins all over. He wears his hair up, either in small pigtails that keeps the tri-colored hair back away from his ears or up in a high-pony tail. If it was ever down, the hair would probably be just a inch above his shoulder.

Those that have seen him had written him off as a very un-attractive blend of emo, Goth, and punk. I just couldn't help to wonder about his strange routine. I guess over time, I just came to FYE, just to see if Shun Chenin really does waste an hour, listening to CD’s and then leaves.

He’s also in my math and science class. And yes, he doesn't speak or look at anybody there either. Just sits there, writing something in his notebooks. Even that has to be weird as well. He matches his pens with the color of the notebook that he’s uses.

How do I know this? I saw him doing homework during lunch once. He doesn't eat lunch, just does his homework. Every time, he was done with one subject, he puts both pen and notebook back in his grungy book bag and then takes other notebook and the matching pen.

I think he has some weird form of OCD but for some reason, I couldn't get it all out of my head and I have to see if it’s all a very well thought out act on his part or I have been stalking a freak all this time.

I was praying for the ‘act’ part.

Imagine my shock, when Shun had came up to me during fourth period just after the bell rang for lunch with downcast eyes and a CD case being offered in the semi-gloved hand.

“What’s this?” I asked taking the case in hand and giving it a thorough look while brushing honey-red locks out of my eyes.

The cover says in big red and pink letters with a big heart around it, ‘This is love..” It also had in small black letters underneath that it was a love CD for Jake Connelly from Ashley Chenin by Shun Chenin.

When I looked away from the odd thing in my hand, I noticed that the quiet Chenin was gone.

“Dang. He is a weird little guy."

I gave the CD gift another look before slipping it into a coat pocket and went to lunch. Still wondering if Ashley was Shun’s sister.

After my daily watch in the mall, I went home in my hand-me-down car and up to my room and just watched a bit of TV while lying on my bed. Thoughts about the only interaction that I ever had with the strange little man led my hazel eyes to stray from the TV screen to my coat where the plastic corner of the CD case could been seen poking out of the pocket.

After just two minutes, I got up and took the case out of the pocket and put the bare disk into a CD player and stuck a tiny ear-phone in both ears and laid back on my bed, using my arms as a pillow.

Just a few sappy loves songs. Defiantly all had been picked by a teenage girl. But the final song wasn't a song at all. I nearly leaped out of my bed when I heard the very first word.

It was a soft male voice. It had to be Shun’s but why was he talking on the CD and not in real life. In shock, I had missed the actual message so I hit the back button and listen carefully.

“My sister, Ashley is a freshman and wouldn't stop bugging me till I made a love note CD for you from her. She’s says that she’s madly in love you and yadda, yadda, yadda. Frankly, I don't see it but each to their own.” Jerk! I would bet good money that over a dozen people in that school thought I was very good-looking.

“Also, stop following me in the mall. My boyfriend is starting to think that his claim on me is being threatened.”

Boyfriend?

“I would like to be able to sit comfortably someday again.“

He

And before I forget, Ashley will be at your locker before first period, wearing her green sweater and jean skirt.”
Is.

“ She would like to know if you would go out with her this Saturday. Do what you want but don't tell her that I warned you before hand.”

Gay?

And then the CD had finally came to an end and the player had shut itself off.

But my poor little mind was still stuck on the fact that I had been stalking a little gay guy with a boyfriend that thought that I wanted Shun for myself.

Next time, I was going to just ignore the little red banged punk with black hair that had just this white part underneath. Yup just leave Shun Chenin very much alone.
