The thin stream of moonlight was coming in through the curtains, putting everything in an eerie light. The pain of memories he'd rather forget was corroding his soul away. Sleep did not come easily to one such as him, when the burden of over a thousand dead raged through his dreams, unwelcomed. He could tell himself over and over that wasn't really him, but there was no denying the eyes that peered back from those memories were his.
Jin hopped on the ledge, breathing quietly. Walking sideways, he began making his was across the ledge until he reached the window. It was dark and the trees hid him from view. He peeked into the window before jerking back quickly from view. "Ok," he whispered to himself. "There's only one in the room." He then took the tools of his profession from his pocket and set to work on getting the latch open.
Preternatural hearing alerted Kuriin to a small scrapping sound by the window, putting all of his senses on alert. He rolled casually over to face the opposite wall, eyes cracked just enough to watch the window in a mirror. He would not be taken unaware.
Jin held his breath as he eased the window open slightly. Stepping gingerly into the darkened room, he slowly closed the window behind him. The room's occupant seemed to be asleep... if he could just get past the bed without alerting the prone figure, he would be home free and the house's safe would be his. He was hired by an anonymous employer, so he had be sure to stay on his toes. Stepping further into the room, he stopped, not wanting to push his luck. Crouching down, he began to slowly make his way to the room's only door.
Kuriin was not in the mood. Not tonight, not any night, to be bothered. He just wanted to rot in his own self-loathing. The constant battle with the memories from his bloody past was wearing him down to a thread. The sound of the window closing shut with a soft snap - loud in his ears. He laid waiting. Anyone entering by stealth at this late hour was most definitely up to no good, he knew. Good thing for the intruder he had already fed earlier that night. He normally was not a patient man, but tonight, the weariness was just too much, so he stayed still. Eyes on the shadow-cloaked figure crouching on his floor.
Jin reached the door... sticking out a hand to the knob, he stilled. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Something wasn't right. Every nerve on his body was screaming for him to run. He tried to calm his thundering heart. Gulping a bit, he turned the knob.
Kuriin's glittering eyes pierced the darkness. He could practically hear the pounding of the intruder's heart. Beating in fear as he reached for the knob. Something kept Kuriin silent. What the hell was the small man doing here? What did he want? His curiosity peaked by the sheer gull of the man. Didn't everyone know who he was? What he was? He was intrigued by the bravery and audacity of the stealthy intrusion.
He opened the door soundlessly. Jin placed one foot outside the room. Unable to help himself, he turned around, slowly. Heart pounding in his throat, he captured his first glimpse of the owner's glittering eyes.
A slow smile spread across Kuriin's lips as their eyes made contact. Pointed canines flashing bright white. No point in feigning sleep any more. He lifted himself up enough to prop his head on his hand. Eyebrows arched delicately in askance. He wasn't worried about the lithe man trying to run, there was no need to.
'Fuck,' he thought, panicked. 'How am I going to get out of this one?' Unconsciously, he licked his dry lips. How in the world could he have missed this? And now, he knew why his employer was so nervously anonymous. He was stuck and he knew it. There was no way he could get out in one piece. He was more than sure that the man could out run his elfish legs.
Kuriin chuckled softly. Obviously, whomever had sent him, did not inform him of the home's occupant. He couldn't help but feel the tiniest bit sorry for him, but also amused. "Are you going to just stand there or are you going to tell me why the hell you're in my house?" Eyes sliding over the tense body.
Jin was silent as he observed the man. He had never been in a situation such as this. What does one say when you've been caught sneaking into a home that wasn't yours? He didn't know what to do so stayed silent.. hand still poised on the door knob.
"I see, " Kuriin said humor tingeing his low voice. He slowly sat up in bed, swinging his legs off to the side. He reached in the dark for a cigarette and lighter. The small flame briefly lighting the figure still poised at the door, still and quiet like a statue. Kuriin's sharp eyes taking in what he couldn't see before... the slight frame, the almond eyes.. he must be at least half-elf. Interesting. Very interesting. He sucked on his cig, savoring the harsh smoke, eyes never leaving the intruder. If it was a waiting game he wanted, he would play. "Tell me your name, elf," he said with a low commanding voice, expecting to be obeyed.
Jin bristled at the command. Who was he to demand anything from him? "Jin," he said quietly without thinking. He bit his tongue in irritation, filling his mouth with his blood. "Damn," he whispered.
"Jin." He said it like he wanted to savor the flavor of a fine wine. He could smell the small amount of blood in the air and he had to fight the hunger. It was taking most of his self-control to keep from leaping at the stranger. "Mmm. Have I heard of you before? Rumors on the wind of your name...?" Could it possibly be him? The boyish figure standing stunned, bristling with annoyance. Warmth that radiated out deliciously. He leaned forward, elbows on knees. Small frown puckering his brow. "Jin. How curious to find you in my home."
He gulped, still at a loss. "Yes," he said firmly, but softly.
A hearty laugh rumbled deep in his chest. "Yes, what, I wonder. Are you TRYING to agitate me? Yes, I have heard of you before? Or yes, it IS curious to find you here?" He flicked ashes, miniature embers floating down to the worm wood of the floor like tiny fireflies, before winking out.
Nibbling on his bottom lip, he tried to come up with an answer for him. His head dipped down, staring at his shoes. For some reason, he felt shy... naked... as if this man had stripped him. "Are you going to let me go?" he asked not answering his questions. The last thing he needed was someone pointing him out in a crowd.
"That all depends, doesn't it?" What was it about the boy that was so vaguely familiar? It ate the edge of his dark memories. "I can't have prowlers entering my home only to have them come away unscathed. I do not take kindly to intruders, even curiously familiar elvish ones who feign innocence, hoping to charm their way out of a precariously dangerous situation." He grinned ferally into those wide eyes, squishing out his cig between two fingers before dropping it to the floor.
Jin's eyes widened. He took a step back, his back hitting the wall behind him with a soft thud. His hand fell to his side. His heart began it's thunderous beat once again, nearly drowning his hearing. He knew the man could hear it.
Kuriin didn't even blink and was standing in front of the elf, hand pressed into the wall above his shoulder. The boy's heart pounding out a rhythm he couldn't ignore. Fear. But also something even baser... self-preservation. His instincts telling him to be a bit wary with this one, even as slight as he was. Even with the fear widening his eyes. The situation stirred his sluggish blood. He leaned in very close and took in the scent of him. Etching it into his brain. "Perhaps I should mark you? Drain you a bit? Or perhaps I could feed on your worst fears?" He paused. "Oh don't worry, you will remain as you are, but a part of your very essence will become mine." He smiled with an evil charm and licked his lips slowly, thinking of how the elf would taste.
Jin gasped when the man suddenly appeared in front of him. Now he couldn't escape at all. His eyes flicked over to the window... too far away for him to make a run for it. He didn't want to give up but there was absolutely nothing he could do, short of kicking him the balls, but something told him, that the man could snap him in two before his leg was even read. He squeezed his eyes shut, head turning so that his cheek rested against the cool wall. The chill a welcome surprise to his overly warm skin.
Kuriin caught the direction of Jin's glance. "Don't even think of it," he warned. Then felt a stirring of his humanity in the form of pity when the boy screwed his eyes shut tightly. He looked so young, so full of fear, so much like himself before succumbing to the evil that resided in his heart. But the hunger was already running rampant in his veins. He gritted his teeth hard. The boy had entered his home in the middle of the night, had entertained his own death by doing so, knowingly, he told himself. Kuriin leaned even further in, his mouth grazing the long line of the exposed neck glimmering in the low light. "Mmm, I wonder. How much would your blood tell me about who you really are and who sent you here?"
Tears threatened to leak from his tightly closed eyes. For the first time, he truly felt defeated. "...please..." he whispered, hating himself and silently cursing at his show of weakness.
It was those unshed tears in the end. He pressed his lips hotly into Jin's neck, barely pricking that sweet flesh. One very small droplet welled up. Kuriin caught it with his tongue. The woodsy flavor of the elf's blood filled his mouth and made him dizzy with raw want, the small amount keeping the elf's secrets. He pulled back slowly. Running his thumb across the fine features, catching a lone tear as it trailed down his cheek. "I am not known for my compassion," he said in a thinly veiled threat, voice ragged with reined in lust. "Come into my house in stealth again, and even your tears will not save you."
Jin opened his eyes. He was terribly confused about what just happened. He watched the man step back and was stunned. But then his survival instincts kicked in. He ran to the window, throwing it open. Leaping onto the ledge, he cast one last look over his shoulder. He knew that the man was letting him go and cursed at himself for even looking back at him... but there was something about him. He leapt from the two story window, landing on the ground gracefully. "Gonna turn into a pillar of salt someday," he muttered, taking refuge in the trees as he left the property.
Kuriin watched the elf run like a fluid shadow into the trees and lit another cigarette as he stood staring out the opened window, the wind rippling his jet hair and tugging the brief night shorts that hugged his trim waist. The scent, the taste of the elf lingering. What had made him let the intruder go? A haunted expression passed over his smooth features. Had he made a mistake? Something told him that he would see the stranger again, though. The small drop of blood tied them together now. It was a small binding, but enough to make his body vibrate with hunger for the lithe man.
