Today Placid Falls was not living up to its name, as per usual this time of year.

College students flooded in, scrambling for rent properties, campus housing, all in preparation for the fall semester.

Full-time residents often groaned upon this new population boon, as it grossly infringed on the peaceful harmony of the quiet Texas town, but at least they had the summer to recover.

Placid Falls fared well economically from this invigorated population. Businesses fought to capture every stray dime of college money, and as a result, Placid Falls became the ritziest small town in Texas, boasting marble-lined main drags and high class boutiques and eateries.

Two new residents: statuesque, blue-eyed, blonde Terrence Reed and deeply tanned, lithe, elegant, emerald-eyed Daron Alvarado were looking forward to starting the next leg of their life together.

A part of their life they could finally share with the outside world.

They had been a couple since freshman year of high school, but in their small Texas town, being “out” was certainly not the “in” thing to do. They both got brutalized enough on mere suspicion that they were gay, if it was ever confirmed, they may not have lived to see graduation.

But, Placid Falls was reputed to be very gay-friendly, and they hoped its reputation was well-earned.

They hauled the last of their belongings into the house they were renting for the year.

“Well, it’s not much, but it’s home.” Daron sighed, flopping down on their couch.

“Yeah, it’s…OUR home…God, that sounds so nice!” Terrence mused, snuggling against Daron.

They were both exhausted from a day of moving, so they ended up falling asleep where they sat, Terrence’s mid-length blonde hair like gold against the tanned skin of Daron’s arm.

Across town, fierce rock music screamed out of a garage.

“Ok guys, pick up the pace, you’re lagging!” the band’s slender, pallid-skinned, blue-eyed guitarist/vocalist yelled.

“Oh, excuse us, Damian, we’re so sorry to have thrown off His Highness!” the short, tough-looking, dark-skinned, green-eyed bassist snapped.

“Look, don’t get all pissy with me because you fucked up…Let’s just do it again.” Damian sighed, fixing his shoulder length silken black hair into a ponytail once more, capturing the stray hairs that persisted on falling in his eyes.

“You know what? Let’s not. I’m out of here.” the bassist hissed, grabbing up her equipment.

“You know what, Davi? Why don’t you change your fucking tampon, and come back tomorrow with a better attitude?” Damian snipped.

“I’m not coming back, ever! I’m sick of your shit, Damian! Besides, I’m supposed to go see my brother’s new place. So, fuck you, and goodnight!” Davila snipped back, loading her equipment in her car and driving off.

“She’ll be back.” the handsome, muscular drummer spoke up.

“No skin off my ass if she isn’t.” Damian muttered under his breath, putting his equipment to the back of the garage and turning to go into his house.

As the sun began to make its way down the horizon, worshippers filed into the extravagantly constructed local church for evening service.

Elliot Saunders sang hymns while his friend Emily Greene played piano, as everyone found a pew.

Elliot’s father was the local minister, and he smiled proudly as Elliot sang tune after tune.

He hoped Elliot would follow in his footsteps and take up the ministry when he was old enough.

Evening service began with prayer, and his father’s nightly sermon.

Elliot sat silently as his father spouted off his nightly dose of fire and brimstone to the congregation that eagerly swallowed up every morsel.

With his short, dirty blonde hair, somewhat chubby face, and sea-glass blue eyes, Elliot looked every bit the cherub…

But the sparkle in those very eyes belied his innocent façade.

As soon as church service was over, Elliot and Emily ran to Emily’s house to make a quick costume change before making a run for the outskirts of Placid Falls.

They had to become their “others”, as they called them, and live it up on the Darkside.

Davila pulled up in front of the address her brother had given her.

It was a small, red brick rental home without much of a yard to speak of, but she was just glad to have a place to flee to when her dad chapped her ass.

She lived in Placid Falls with him, and her twin, Daron, had stayed behind with their mother. But, now they were reunited…somewhat.

She knocked on the door, and was met by all 6 foot, 7 inches of Terrence.

“Davi, baby girl, look at you!” he shrieked, picking her up, and embracing her tightly.

“Oww, Ter…Killing me…”

Terrence laughed, and set her down.

“You might be a queer, Ter, but you’re still built like a quarterback…” Davi teased.

“Ha ha! Well, get in here, I’m sure your brother would like to see you!”

Davi entered, glad to see the house was in fairly good condition. She feared her brother would end up in one of the rat traps that was most often passed off as college housing.

“Hey, DivaDyke!” Daron called from the kitchen.

“Hi QueenQueer!” Davi called back, wrapping her arms around her brother.

“God, gay twins…How did your parents cope?” Terrence joked.

“They coped by getting divorced, hoping that the separation would de-gay us both.” Daron explained, stirring a pot on the stove.

“And did it work?”

“I dunno…Still a rug muncher, Davi?”

Davi raised her hand “Confessed…Still a knob gobbler?”

“Only every other night.”

“Nope, it didn’t work.” Davi joked back.

“So, Davs…How did your band practice go?”

“For shit. Damian’s ego is a force to be reckoned with.” Davi grumbled, while she sampled a bit of what Daron was cooking.

“Hey, hey, hey! You can just wait for supper!” Daron chided, taking her spoon away.

“Good, that’ll give me plenty of time to figure out what that’s supposed to be.” Davi teased.

“You are such a bitch! It’s…it’s…”

“Unclassifiable…” Davi joked, sending Terrence into spastic chuckles.

Daron placed a hand on his curvy hip.

“I hate you both! Fine, no supper for either one of you!” Daron kidded back, finally admitting defeat.

“Darling…You tried really hard…but, call time of death, and let’s get take out.” Terrence teased, holding Daron close, nuzzling his smooth, butterscotch colored cheek.

“Ok, you win, but don’t expect to get laid tonight…” Daron quipped through playfully slitted eyes.

“Hey! Virgin ears here! No icky gay sex shit!” Davi squealed, covering her ears.

Davi chanced uncovering them a bit.

“Then we won’t tell you about when Daron puts on Vaseline coated rain boots and tap-dances on my prostate…” Terrence teased.

“Aggggh! Enough! You’re making me sick!” Davi screeched.

“Ok, ok, you’re scaring the lesbian, Ter! Where shall we procure our meal?” Daron asked.

“Queena’s?”

“If we’re going all the way out to Queena’s, we’re sitting for our meal…”

“Queena’s?” Davi asked.

“Oh, yeah, some friends we met online that live here recommended it. I’m surprised you haven’t heard of it.” Terrence informed.

“I’m not. Dad filters out anything and everything gay positive. He thinks gays are going to take over the world.” Daron explained, as he freshened up.

“And do what? Paint it pink?”

“With disco balls!” Davi chimed in.

“Well, if we’re going, let’s go, I’m dying to see if this place is all it’s supposed to be.”

The three loaded up into Daron’s beat-up black Jeep Wrangler, with the top off, driving under the emerging stars.

Elliot put the finishing touches on his makeup.

“Ew, you have a lipstick mishap, Ellie…” Emily said, helping Elliot clean up his hurriedly applied black lipstick.

“How do I look?” Elliot asked, giving Emily a spin, his black, spider-web lace skirt swishing over his burnt cherry-colored combat boots.

“You look like Elvira’s chubby, gay brother.”

“You could have left off the chubby, you spiteful bitch!”

Emily giggled.

“Oh, like I’m one to talk!” Emily frowned, eyeing her Rubenesque form in the mirror, adjusting her ample breasts in her corset.

“You’re not fat, Em, we’re not going through this again.”

“I am too…” she pouts at her reflection as she fixes the last bit of her fiery red hair until it is straight and smooth as all the rest.

“You’re a sexy bitch, and you know it! Now, come on! We gotta hurry out before your parents get home.” Elliot urged.

“Wait, you need more tits!” Emily instructed, putting some of her old knee-high stockings behind the push-up pads in Elliot’s bustier.

“There, do I have enough tits for you now?” Elliot teased, adjusting his Betty Page-style black wig.

“Plenty. Ok, the night awaits!” Emily laughed, as they crawled out her bedroom window, hopping for the ground, and running off into the night.

They stopped at the edge of their neighborhood, catching the bus that ran solely to collect passengers and escort them to what was commonly known as the “Darkside” of town. The area that catered to the creatures of the night, and predominantly the ones who flew rainbow flags.

The part of town the more conservative of Placid Falls’ residents demanded be shut down.

Little did they know two of their own offspring frequently sampled its forbidden fruits.

The bus stopped right at the edge of the club district.

Emily and Elliot were both too young, by two years, to get into any clubs, but they were quite old enough to go to their favorite haunt, “Queena’s”.

“Queena’s” is the landing pad for most of the Darkside’s visitors. It’s a greasy hamburger joint turned respectable restaurant by one of the Darkside’s most colorful characters, retired drag performer JaQueena Maine.

It is decorated with the souvenirs of gaydom…Pictures of Stonewall, numerous snap shots of gay pride parades all around the world, autographed glossies of drag queens with whom JaQueena has made acquaintance over the years, and lots of rainbow color. Not just because the rainbow is the gay symbol, JaQueena would argue, but because the world needs a little more color.

The tables are even covered with glass, and underneath have photos JaQueena has collected over the years, and every table is different. Each one a scrapbook of rich history.

It was indisputably the heart of the Darkside, and anyone who is anyone ends their night there.

Elliot and Emily strolled through the door, and Emily grinned from ear to ear upon seeing a familiar face.

“Davi! You finally made it out!” Emily shrieked, hurrying to where Davi sat with her twin and his lover.

“Hi Emily…” Davi blushed.

“I thought you didn’t know about this place?” Daron inquired of Davi.

“I knew…I just never could get here.” Davi said softly, shrinking into herself.

Emily and Elliot sat in a booth across from Davi.

“Oh, I can slip out under the nose of this town’s most anal retentive son of a bitch, but you can’t get past your dad?” Emily asked, lighting up a cigarette, staining it with her black lipcolor.

“Hey, my dad is friends with said son of a bitch.”

“Touché…” Emily said, taking a long drag off her smoke.

“So, Davi, are you going to introduce us to your…colorful friends?” Terrence prodded.

“This is my twin brother Daron, and his butt burglar Terrence…Dar, Ter, this is Emily and her bitch Elliot…”

“Ellie! I’m Ellie when I’m in drag, Davi!”

“Sorry, I meant Elsie…the cow…” Davi said through clenched teeth.

“You are such a bitch, Davs!” Emily snipped, passing her cigarette to Elliot.

A smartly dressed drag queen waitress in a large blue beehive wig, 1950’s waitress garb, and fire engine red fetish heels found her way to the table.

“Ok, are you all ready to order?” she asked Davi’s table.

They put in their order, and after getting their menus, Emily and Elliot ordered their meal too.

No one spoke much until the food arrived.

“So, Elliot, still playing choir boy for daddy?” Davi asked.

“It’s merely a day job…When I graduate, and go to college, I’m through with all that Christian bullshit…” Elliot said following with a slow drag of his cigarette.

“I’d bet your daddy would shit himself to know that his precious little angel is a dress wearing Satanist…” Davi threatened.

“I’m a Wiccan, Davi! And you wouldn’t dare!” Elliot yelped.

“It’s all the same to those religious types, and why wouldn’t I dare?” Davi glared.

“Because I can tell your daddy you’ve been partaking of Emily’s snatch for the past year.”

Emily blushed visibly.

“Oh, don’t get your panties in a wad, Ellie…I was only making conversation.” Davi said, nibbling at her food.

“Well, Em…Why don’t we get our food to go, and watch the shady queers hump in the park?” Elliot more demanded than asked.

“Ok…Bye Davi…” Emily said meekly, kissing Davi’s cheek as she and Elliot procured take-out containers and left for the park.

“What is your deal with the drag queen?” Daron asked, sipping his soda.

Davi took off her Nirvana beanie, setting it on the table, and rubbing her short cropped black hair.

“Well?” Terrence urged.

“He hates me, so I hate him. End of story.”

“But, you seem mildly fond of his friend, Emily was it?” Daron urged.

“Yeah, I’m very fond of her, but he keeps convincing her I’m this evil bitch that’s going to ruin her life.”

“Well, that’s not nice. Maybe he’s just protective.” Terrence said.

“He’s gonna need protection for his chunky faggot ass before long…” Davi hissed.

“Aww…Davi’s got a girlfriend!” Daron squealed.

“Shut up, Daron!” Davi snipped, face growing bright red.

Elliot and Emily ate their supper in the park, sitting on a merry-go-round.

“I can’t believe she still hates me.” Elliot mused, picking at his cashew chicken.

“Well, you did call her a megalomaniacal psycho dyke from hell, Ellie. That doesn’t make someone have very fond feelings.” Emily joked, picking at her three-cheese ravioli.

“Well, she is Em…I don’t know what you see in her.”

“She’s…great, Ellie…You need to give her a chance…I’m tired of having to play referee between you two.”

“Ok, fine…But I claim the right to say ‘I told you so!’ when she breaks your heart.” Elliot said.

“Ok, fine, done. Besides, if you get back in her good graces, maybe she’ll get you in with Damian.”

“That bigoted asshole? He might be sexy, but he’s homophobic with a bitch fat ‘H’…” Elliot countered.

“You’re just mad that he calls you ‘choir boy’…” Emily giggled.

“Yeah, and ‘ball-less wonder‘. He’s a jerk, Em!”

“He’s also very, very gay…”

“Yeah, all guys that fuck the blonde, big-tittied captain of the college cheerleading squad are queer. I read that in the Rainbow Handbook somewhere…” Elliot said sarcastically.

“Yeah, but do said cheerleader humpers keep gay porn in their garage?”

Elliot’s kohl rimmed eyes glistened with interest…
