Celebration
An encounter on the summer holiday will have far reaching consequences for a young elf and Kamardi prince. Taken from the setting and characters of my works The Chronicles of the White Rose Knights. All characters belong to me. *smiles* Hope you enjoy.
Made a few changes, smoothed out a rough spot. This should work a little better now.

Summer\'s Night - Celebration
The drumming hummed through her blood, and Cagila Shadrian closed her eyes briefly as the thumping caught up her heartbeat and sent it on a winging dance throughout the stars.
She loved this night. This holiest of nights. The other festivals for Elves were delightful, but never held quite the same allure that Summer\'s Night did for her. Perhaps it was because she\'d been born on this night. There was indeed some magic to the fact that 153 years ago she\'d been blessed by her parents in the great river of Hon after drawing the first of an endless line of breaths.
She was elf. She was immortal.
She would soon be a Knight of the White Rose.
A smile curved her generous lips, tawny peach in a golden-skinned face; and when she opened her eyes they were of a green so dark it could be mistaken for black in the firelight. When she opened those eyes they stared through the flickering flames of the bonfire and caught in the deep golden gaze of Rafiq Z’Annanndar Malikan.
The thumping of her heart ceased to have anything to do with the drumming as it found a far preferable reason to jump around in her chest. The Kamardi prince had the same stunning features as his sister, Cagila’s dear friend Dame Rashieka, but all the softness and female traits had been honed and sharpened into a dangerously handsome specimen of a male human.
He was slightly shorter than her, but only by an inch maybe. His body was lean and the man moved with a grace that nearly rivaled her own. Broad shoulders tapering down to lean hips and legs that could have lounged about clad in silks, but instead chose functional cloth and worn black boots.
Cagila had to admit – or Anni would have told people anyway – that she had a fondness for Kamardi men. Perhaps it was their casual arrogance, or the way they automatically took control of situations. Either way it was hard to tell, all she knew was she liked them…and they, more often than not, liked her right back.
There were a thousand tales in his eyes, some amusing and others wicked. A slow smile spread across her face as the flames leapt and the drummers pounded away. Cagila wondered what it would be like to be in his arms, to feel the heat of his breath on her skin. He’d had his share of lovers, she knew well enough from Rashieka’s joking tales of her brother’s exploits. Tales that skirted around the edge of details that Caglia would have loved to hear but knew her dear friend did not know. Tales that would have told of mouths on skin and bodies clinging together throughout the dark of the night.
She dragged in a breath and blinked as she recognized the ache which spread through her; then nearly cursed when she realized she could no longer see Rafiq through the fire. She scanned the crowd, “damn, missed your chance,” she whispered to herself.
“I had thought to leave tonight,” she barely concealed her start of surprise at the voice which whispered in her ear, “but I find myself distracted by the beauty of the Fae.”
That made her laugh. “I’m impressed. I did not think any humans still walked who could see the Fae.” Cagila turned to face the Kamardi prince with a smile.
“Perhaps not, but I am certain you are as lovely as they.” He grinned at her and then bowed low. “Creator’s blessings on this summer night, Cagila. How are you finding the training?”
“As challenging as I hoped.” She studied the arm he offered her and allowed him to lead her away from the fire. They passed other celebrants as they strolled through the courtyard and Cagila told him of her days of study and practice.“It will go well. You mentioned you were to leave…”
“I have received word of Nusair.” His eyes were dangerous for a moment, and his smile cold. “I can leave in the morning though, since it seems circumstances have changed.” She realized they stood in the shadows of the castle wall, and then Rafiq slid a hand into the brightness of her hair. His long fingers moved over her scalp and sent chills winging through her skin. He smiled slowly, then stepped forward and pressed his mouth to hers.
