Chapter 1
The sun had finally set and she was still sng ang away typing on her computer. It was getting late, but she refused to leave the confines of her safe haven, online. This was the only place she was drama free, her life was a continual soap opera, between her new step brothers, her over bearing jack ass boyfriend, her best friend and sister Kit, and finally her long list of friends who of course had their own drama they roped her into.
"Tif, Get offline!" Kit whined, bored out of her mind because Tiffany had been typing awal dal day and not spending any time with her.
"Fine, what do you want to do?" Tif asked her as she turned off the monitor and spun around in her chair to face Kit sitting on her bed.
"Okay, so the rents are still on their honeymoon and we have the house to ourselves, we can do anything we want!!" Kit giggled and clapped her hands together.
"Did you forget that we don't have the house to ourselves, we have two step brothers who we barely know living in the next room!" Tif reminded her for probably the hundredth time since their mom and new dad left for their trip to Jamaica.
"Okay, mom and Mike are gone for a week, and all you’ve done is talk to Luke on the phone and play online. What the fuck do you do online all the time anyways?"
"You know what I do, I write. But shouldn’t we ask Matt and Evan what they want to do, it’s their house too." Tif reminded her again!
"Yea yea." Kit relented.
"I’m going to ask them if they want to order something for dinner, what do you want?" Tif asked as she stood up and walked towards the door.
"I don’t care, whatever they want is fine. You want some back up?" Kit smiled, she could already sense the attraction between Matt and Tif.
"No, I think I can handle it." Tif laughed it off, even though she already had butterflies in her stomach because of the anticipation of seeing Matt.
She walked down the hallway, right past the horrible rap blaring from Evan’s room and headed for Matt’s bedroom at the end of the hall. She smiled when she heard the quiet strumming of his guitar. She quietly opened his door and peered inside. His fingers were caressing the strings in a slow mesmerizing pace. Her eyes scanned his body, from his worn out jeans up past his AC/DC t-shirt past his eyes which were centered on his guitar. He looked so determined focusing all his concentration on his music. She decided she wanted to watch him without his guard up when it was just him and his music. She lowered her eyes to his hands which were so delicate, not noticing the way his eyes had traveled from the guitar up to her face. All of a sudden she realized he wasn’t playing anymore.
"What’s up?" He asked with no emotion in his deep masculine voice. It hurt more than him being rude, the way he said it, like he could care less what she wanted tore at her in a way she knew it shouldn’t. They both had other people, not to mention the fact they were now step siblings.
"I was just wondering what you wanted for dinner, Kit and I are ordering out." She replied trying to hide any emotion that was begging to seep out.
"Um, whatever you guys are having is fine." There he was with his lack of feeling. For someone who put so much into his music he seemed to not have a single emotion to speak for.
"Well according to Kit, it’s up to you guys. So pizza or Chinese?" She asked again annoyed with his quick dismissal of her.
"Pizza actually sounds really good. Everything on it okay with you?" Oh my fucking god, the boy could make a decision. This was a new development.
"I’m not sure what everyone else wants but we can just get a couple and all share." This was probably the most in depth conversation they had had since her mom Julie and his dad Mike got married. It’s about damn time!
"Sounds great." That was all she gave him a slight smile and nod and walked back out of his room while quietly shutting the door behind her.
*******************************************************************
Kit was sitting on her sisters' bed waiting to find out what they were going to have for dinner when her cell phone began to ring. She took it out of her pocket and looked at the screen, it was her boyfriend, Ricky.
"Hello?" Kit was hoping that it was going to be one of the very few and far between sweet Ricky calls. When they had started going out in the 7th grade Ricky had always been so wonderful to her. She truly believed that it was love. But lately he had gotten oddly protective of her. She just kept telling herself that it was because they were seniors and going off to college next year. He wanted to keep heose ose for the time they had left together. So she just continued living like nothing had changed, hoping to catch him on his sweet days.
" Where are you?" Maybe the next time he'll be sweet, she thought.
" I'm at home, where else would I be?" Why was he so overbearing at times, why couldn't he be the same Ricky who gave her, her first kiss?
" Look, I don't need you to be a bitch right now." If Kit couldn't be a bitch why could Ricky be an asshole?
" Fine, what's going on?" She was hoping that Ricky just wanted to check in with her, she was really looking forward to sitting at home watching the growing tension in the house.
" I'll be there in 20 minutes, be waiting." All Kit could hear was a dial tone. Great, now she had to go and get ready for Ricky and miss out on all the family fun. Of course she liked spending time with Ricky, after all he did love her, but she hated not having any input on what they were going to do and when. However Kit never complained, it could be worse, Ricky could just be after her for sex, but he was great about waiting till she was ready. But at this rate, she didn't know if she ever would be.
" Ok, the boys want pizza. Is something wrong?" Tif had just walked back into the room holding to the phone and a flyer for a pizza place.
" Ricky." That's all Kit had to say. Tif knew about Ricky's recent change, but it didn't matter if he got worse or better to her. She hated Ricky and thought he was never good enough for her sister.
*******************************************************************
Tif was completely annoyed with her sister and with Evan. They both had told her they would eat some pizza but then left, so now she and Matt were home alone and the pizza guy was on his way with 2 pizzas. She didn’t know if she could sit through a meal with his nonchalant attitude she might get pissed and throw her food at him.
She was sitting in the living room trying to keep herself busy before the pizza guy showed up, she had the TV on but it was muted so she could hear the light melodies flow from Matt’s room. She wondered if he was as passionate about his girl friend Lily as he was about his music, if he was even half as serious about her as his guitars, she was one lucky girl.
Just as she was drifting off into a daze the doorbell rang. She jumped up off the couch and grabbed her purse, she pulled out a twenty and walked towards the door.
"Hi, how much do I owe you?" Tif asked as she took hold of the boxes the cute twenty something delivery boy handed her.
"Fifteen dollars." He smiled at her, if she wasn’t already hung up on Matt, wait no that's not right if she didn’t already have a boyfriend she might flirt with him. She ignored the slip up in her head and went to place the boxes down on the hall table but she came face to face with Matt.
"Thanks." Matt said to the guy as he handed himwentwenty and slammed the door in his face.
"Oh, Matt. I was going to get it, you didn’t have to pay for it." Tif smiled up at him, it was a nice gesture even if she decided to over analyze it into him liking her in her head later.
"No big deal. Where is everyone?" He asked looking around and noticing Evan who normally would be running for food if he was home was no where in sight and then realizing Kit wasn’t around either.
"Kit went out with Ricky and Evan left with some kid Drew something um I think it was Drewpac."
Matt chuckled at the absurd nickname his brother had given Drew when they were just kids, now that they were older he figured Drew would have gotten rid of it, but leave it to Evan to keep up something like that. He picked up the boxes and started walking towards the living room couch with Tif in toe.
"So it’s just me and you tonight." Matt said more to himself then to her, this was no good. He had wanted his new step sister since the day their parents introduced them, but now once he got to know her, it was more than her looks, he wanted everything about her. She wasn’t like the girls he normally saw, she cared about things, and the fact she didn't listen to horrible pop music like her sister didn’t hurt either. The only problem was, he was technically still with Lily, and she was with some jackass. Lily and he would have ended things sooner, s bot both of them knew they were just friends, they rarely kissed let alone acted like a couple, but he didn’t like the idea of being alone, and the only person he wanted was Tif. Seeing how that wasn’t going to happen he might as well keep up this farce he had going with Lily. It was safe, they both agreed to keep up their "relationship" until the other found someone else.
Lily knew all about his obsession with Tif, and she had been trying to talk him into making a move since she claimed Tif felt the same way. That didn’t register to him though, he didn’t see it all he saw was her with her boyfriend. He wasn’t sure if he could handle a whole night of them alone in the house, up until now it was normally the four of them, but with Kit and Evan gone, anything could happen, and he didn’t want to make an ass of himself.
"So movies with the pizza or music?" Tif asked as she plopped down on the couch next to him and picked up the remotes for the TV and the stereo.
"Music, there’s never anything good on around this time." Matt replied as he opened up the pizza and starting eating. Tif looked over to and laughed. She threw the remote for the stereo at him and stood up.
"I’ll get us drinks and plates." She smiled down at the first complete guyish thing he's ever done in front of her.
"We don’t need plates it’s pizza." he said completely confused as to what the plates would be needed for.
"Okay, fine no plates but napkins at least. What do you want to drink?"
"Pepsi, do you want me to help you?" He asked, she loved his random gentlemanly suggestions.
"No, I can handle it. Be right back." She smiled oast ast time as he inhaled his first piece of pizza and headed into the kitchen.
They had made it through a whole pizz now now, and Matt still wasn't finished. He went to open up the second box as Tif switched stations trying to find something good on the radio. By now they had both moved to the ground and were laughing and talking about everything and nothing at the same time.
"So how long have you been with Lily?" Tiffany needed to know, she had been trying to avoid the subject of significant others for awhile now, but it was weighing in the back of her head.
"Random." He chuckled and inwardly groaned at the question. He wanted to forget about everyone else but them tonight, but she has other plans it seemed.
"It’s been about a year now, you and Lucas?" He answered and asked.
"Same, about a year. So do you love her?" She knew she shouldn't be asking him this stuff but she couldn't help it, she was curious and jealous.
"Honestly, no. We have always been more like friends, we figured we spent so much time together as friends we might as well make it more. Truthfully, neither of us really have anything more than friendly feelings though." He couldn’t believe he just admitted that to her. No one knew about his and Lily’s secret, that they couldn’t even kiss without feeling weird. It was too much like kissing his sister, speaking of which he really wanted to kiss his step-sister right now.
" Wa" Was her only responses, when inside she was jumping for joy. Now all she had to do, was figure out where her and Luke stood.
"Yeah, so do you love Lucas?" Hey it was his right to ask, he just prayed her answer wasn’t yes.
"Well since we’re being honest, it’s not love. I just have been with him for so longdon’don’t really know anything else."
Matt didn’t respond right away, he just breathed a sigh of relief. She didn’t love him, it seemed like he actually may have a chance.
"Well, it seems we’re both stuck in emotionless relationships huh?" Tif laughed trying to lighten the mood, when in all honesty that's exactly what it was.
During the whole conversation Matt had been unconsciously sliding closer to her, they were now almost touching.
"Seems like it." Matt said without a trace of laughter, as he inched closer to her. By now, Tif had completely stopped laughing and was sitting still. Scared to move and break the trance Matt seemed to be in.
All she did was bite her lower lip and nod slightly, letting him know she agreed even though she couldn’t remember what he had said. Matt waited for any movement that would tell him she didn’t want what he was about to do, but when none came he closed the final distance and nipped her bottom lip which she had been biting seconds earlier. At first she was so shocked she sat there letting him lick her lip after he nipped it soothing the small redness they both had caused, but when he leaned forward capturing her face in his hands she responded, leaning into him.
That was all the encouragement he needed, he softly pressed his lips to hers, licking her lips asking for entrance, she readily replied, opening her mouth to him, and letting him inside, to claim her. Their tongues dueled together, twisting and soon she was laying back with her arms around his neck. Matt’s hands had moved from her face and were sliding up her shirt, drawing small circles on the small expanse on skin that was exposed. Tiffany moaned into his mouth loving the feeling of his hands on her, his tongue fighting with hers for dominance.
"Anyone home?" Evan yelled out as he and Drew walked into the house. Tiffany pushed Matt up off her, and scrambled to a standing position fixing her shirt as she rose. "In here." She called to him, and then just as quickly ran off to her room. Scared of what she just did, she had a boyfriend, he had a girlfriend. This wasn’t right. She shouldn’t have let him kiss her, but it felt so right, not only the kiss, but the fact that he wanted to kiss her.
"What have I gotten myself into?" She asked herself as she fell back onto her bed. Ready to over analyze the night away.
"Jesus Christ Evan! You have the absolute worst timing ever." Matt exhaled angrily as he stormed off to his room, slamming the door shut. He laid back onto his bed, remembering the feeling of Tif underneath him, kissing him, her arms wrapped around his neck. Now what to do about Lily and Luke?
******************************************************************
The drive to the party was silent except the small fact that Ricky continued talking on his cell phone to his friends at the party. Kit just looked out the window and ignored being ignored by her boyfriend. After about 20 minutes driving Ricky pulled up to a large house that belonged to his friend, who was throwing the party. Kit sat still in the car as Ricky finished telling the person on the phone that they were there.
"Yeah. We'll be right in. Okay, bye." Ricky for the first time looked over at Kit. " Ready?" But it wasn't a question it was more of a command and Kit just nodded her head and stepped out of the car. She followed slightly behind Ricky as he moved to the door. Once he opened the door music poured out and the smell of cheap liquor filled her nose. Kit hated these types of parties. Ricky always got drunk, they fought, she'd end up getting a ride from some nameless stranger or calling Tif. Kit stood in the hall just looking around and watching Ricky disappear to the already drunk fools in the kitchen.
"Great." Kit sighed as she started to look around for a safe place to wait out till Ricky came looking for her. Little good her hoping did, she still always hoped the night would end fast. Suddenly, Kit was grabbed around the waist and pulled into a small room, most likely one of the many bedrooms in the house, with a hand covering her mouth preventing her from screaming. Kit was so scared she couldn't move or do anything that could help her, she'd heard of girls getting raped at parties like these but never thought she would end up like one of them. Once the door was closed the person holding her leaned in closely to Kit's ear, she felt his hot warm breath on her neck and was slightly turned on by how good it felt. Then the man laughed lightly and spoke.
"You should have seen the look on your face." He let her go and walked over and turned on the light.
"You asshole!" Kit threw her bag at his head, but sadly missed. " I thought I was going to be raped!" Kit moved over to the bed and sat down trying to calm herself down. " Kyler, you are a fucker you know that?" Kyler came over and sat next to Kit.
"Sorry, but I had to. If you saw your face you would have laughed your ass off!" He was still laughing a bit as he was talking. Kit looked over at him and began to laugh with him.
"I'm so getting you back now for that." Kit flopped back onto the bed and closed her eyes. Soon, Kyler fell right next to her.
"Is that a threat or a promise?" Kyler watched Kit as she laid there. All he wanted to do was pull her close and kiss her lips. But he couldn't since for one thing she was dating Ricky and another thing was that she was his best friend. As he was staring at her she turned over and looked him straight in the eye.
"Of course it’s a threat. You know I can't keep any promises,” Kit laughed a bit and soon Kyler joined in. They lay there for a few minutes just enjoying the calmness. That is until they heard a pounding on the door. Automatically they sat up and Kit walked over and opened it to face a very drunk and angry Ricky. He stared at Kit and walked forward pushing her with his stare. All Kit could do was stare back and quietly ask Kyler to leave. " Kyler, could you give us some time?" Kyler just looked back and forth between Ricky and Kit but soon left, it wasn't his place to get in the middle of a fight between them, no matter how much he just wanted to punch Ricky out, run some place with Kit and show her how much love he had for her. But, with any luck Ricky would just pass out soon and the fight would be forgotten to all, but him. Kyler hated leaving Kit alone with him. Ricky was a piece of trash and Kit was his angel. He didn't understand how Kit could stay with an ass like Ricky but didn't know how Kit would feel if he told her about how he wanted her. So he just left quietly and closed the door behind him.
"What where you doing in here with him?" Ricky wasn't yelling but he wasn't asking in his normal tone. Kit could tell he was beyond pissed, but she didn't understand why. She had spent time with Kyler before and he wasn't mad thenybe ybe he was just drunk and this was how he was going to pick the fight.
"Ricky, it was just Kyler. We were talking. Nothing more." Kit began to walk past him to grab her bag but soon Ricky grabbed her upper arm tightly and pulled her back against the wall hard.
"Don't EVER cheat on me. You are mine and I don't want you with that fuck anymore!" Ricky was standing less than 6 inches from Kit's face and screaming his orders at her.
" Ricky get off me. We are just frs ans and you’re drunk. You need to sleep it off." Kit thought she had gotten through to him since he held his head down for a few second until he looked back up at her with rage in his eyes. Kit didn't know what to do. She would have run but he was still holding on to her so tight that she was sure she would have bruises. However, right then and there she didn't care, she was so scared by his rage filled eyes that she started crying. "Ricky?"
"DON'T EVER CORRECT WHAT I THINK YOU BITCH!" Ricky slapped Kit so hard that the other side of her face hit the wall. After that Ricky let go and walked out of the room. As soon as he let go Kit dropped to the ground and began to cry. After about 5 minutes of crying deeply she realized she was being held and crying into someone’s chest. She pulled back fast to see Kyler's worried look and his shirt covered in tears and a little blood from her lip. Kit held her head down, ashamed of what happened.
"He was drunk." That was all she could say to Kyler to explain what happened. After all he was drunk, so she was sure that he didn't really mean to hit her. That's what she wanted to believe so she kept telling her self over and over again. Soon she looked back at Kyler and saw him standing up holding his hand out to her. She gladly took it and Kyler embraced her in a hug and whispered in her ear.
"I'll take you home now, OK?" He pulled back and looked at Kit's cut and bleeding lip, and her bruised cheek and arms. He wanted to kill Ricky for hurting her, but he wanted to get her home before something else happened. As they walked from the party, Kyler had placed his arm around Kit, she watched the ground as they walked out the door to his 1965 blue Ford mustang Kit got into Kyler’s car and put head against the head rest and closed her eyes. Kyler hopped into the driver’s side and placed the key in the ignition but before he put his car into shift he looked at Kit. " What happened?"
Kit opened her eyes and looked over at Kyler. "Nothing." She turned her head away and closed her eyes. Kyler knew then that she wanted to not talk about what had happened, and also that she was going to forgive Ricky. Why couldn't Ricky see how great Kit was? She was the type of girl that you knew there would never be another like her, so why didn't Ricky see what he saw? So even though Kyler wanted to talk Kit into breaking up with Ricky he knew that right now she needed to rest.
*******************************************************************
Tif smiled and turned over in her bed, she had just had the best dream yet and of course it was about none other than Matt. He had snuck into her room while she was sleeping and woke her up with a kiss telling her he needed her and only wanted her. They had made love and he had helr ter telling her how much he loved her and wanted to be with her forever. She didn’t know how much more of this she could take, she knew one thing for certain though, she needed to end things with Luke.
