Destined Magic

She had not noticed him hiding among the tiers of the small huts. He had watched her for some time while she was in the market, but not once had she even had the thought that anyone could be following her. He studied her long, auburn hair cascading down her arched back and around her beautiful curves. He stood immobile, mesmerized while his eyes pursued the ruby teardrop that constantly evaded him, as it swung loosely across her soft, angelic brow. The slender, golden chain holding the stone seemed to course up along her temples and get lost in her delicate hair. Every step she made, he caught and noticed that each had a certain rhythm to it. He doubted anyone knew her movements the way he did.

She couldn\'t help noticing the way he examined every motion she made or the finest details of her features. At first she had thought that he was merely in the market for his own reasons, but then she caught how he stared at her fixedly. She had to keep control of herself to keep from smiling and laughing out loud. Evan had always held her interest, since they were kids in fact. It was just the way he was very genial around his friends, but the moment she appeared- silence. Nothing kept her mind occupied more. Why was it such a problem for him to speak around her?

He was quite attractive with a tall stature and a well-toned body. His face was one that portrayed honesty and intelligence. His shoulder-length black hair did nothing to lessen the piercing stare of his ice blue eyes. Anele almost thought that it should be a sin for a man to look that handsome. At this thought, a small smirk covered her pink lips, even though she was pretending look at the jewelry on the table. She glanced at his body leaned against the pole to see if he had noticed her grin.

Evan was still leaning against the tier of the hut, amazed with her beauty, when he noticed a small grin pass her lips. At first he thought it was something the merchant had said that had amused her, but when he saw her eyes flick to where he stood, he realized that she knew he was there watching her. He didn\'t know what to do. Around his friends he had chosen to emit that \"cocky, bad boy\" attitude, which served him well, but when she had tried to talk to him, it was as if someone had pushed all the air out of his lungs. He couldn\'t mouth a word, much less get a sound out to form one. She\'s just too good for me, he thought. She wouldn\'t want anything to do with the son of the wealthiest man in our village. She had proved that when she declined Victor\'s proposal.

Victor was Evan\'s corpulent, older brother who was as obnoxious as they come. He loved the opulence with which they had been surrounded with since they were boys. Even though Evan\'s mother was a pauper who had died during childh anh and Victor\'s mother was a princess who had died when her carriage had overturned, Evan\'s father had always treated them as equals. Growing up, Victor had always teased Evan- until Evan grew stronger and beat him in a sword fight. At this point, he had turned his attention to Anele because he knew Evan was enamored with her. He always took what his brother had. Even when Anele had declined his proposal for marriage, Victor didn\'t give up.

Seeing that Evan was deep in thought, Anele decided she would go and try once again to speak with him. Maybe this time he will at least make a sound, she thought. Anele turned from the jewelry and started her way towards Evan. She was almost at the hut when, much to her chagrin, Evan\'s brother, Victor, caught her arm.

\"Hello, my dear. I missed you,\" he breathed in her ear.

Anele sighed and nearly muttered a curse at him under he breath. \"Victor. How many times must I remind you that neither am I your \'dear\', nor am I the least bit interested in one more of your half-hearted proposals.\"

\"You might today,\" and with that, he grabbed her arm and wrenched her off into the direction of his home.
