Hi, Kiix,
Yeah, I remember that review:) It was when I just started writing my first fic. And I mean: the First Fic. The only times I've written anything before was required school work a long time ago. I didn't like it and only did enough to pass the grade. Many people on AFF have been writing for a long time, many people have a dream to become a published writer. I was always just a reader.
Well, this idea for Harry Potter story was in my head for a while and I decided to actually write it down. It should be easy, after reading so much for so many years, right? Not true! It is hard and only now I have realized that writing is a SKILL and a hard work. There is a lot of planning and background work before writing anything. I made a calendar with entire outline in it, as well as descriptions of characters and places ans small bits from different chapters. That should make it easy, right? Well, no, although it helps.
I tend to think in images when writing an actual chapter. Colors, smells, sounds, temperature etc. Twist it around untill it works. It's more like making a movie, really. And then I have to put it in words and that is a problem. How do I convey what I see to other people?
The problems I have are:
1) Longwindedness (is that a word?) I write thing down and then go over cutting staff out. Usually get rid of 1/5 to 1/4 of irrelevant shit.
2) Writers Blindness (my own term, hehe). I am absolutely unable to evaluate my own work or have a clue what it looks like to readers. The first chapter posted had so many mistakes but to me it looked great.
Cake was a first fic of yours I've read and it blew my socks off! It is so good and intense. I really wondered how did you do that - the perfect combination of action and sex, amazing dialog. The fic is highly concentrated and keeps intencity through ALL chapters. I want to know your secret! LOL
Thank you for posting this, Kiix. This section needs more of this sort of rants, for all practical purposes:) I hope that you'll continue on this, because I want to know more:)
Here are the questions:
1)How long does it take you to type an average chapter?
2)How much editing on contents do you do after typing out the first draft? Or the first draft is what we see? I just want more specifics.
P.S. This had 0 clicks and 0 reviews when I started. I think that this is my first time to be a first reader:)
