How do you write? Are you kidding me!!
Greetings! I’m Kiix. I’m currently writing vampire slash and this is little posting here is based on a number of requests from those who have taken the time to read my work. I refer to them as the Loyal. They call themselves the Loyal as well.
Baw ha ha ha. My own little cult. No, no. Just kidding. Really, j/k.
Actually, I am quite grateful that readers have found my work entertaining. My goal was just to get at least 1 person reading. Feedback would have been nice. Apparently, my offerings were appealing. My little offering of “Cake” has turned into Book One of the Lord Emperor Vampire series.
I do believe it was Madlodger who requested that I write something in the rants section. At the time, I was like, “yeah, sure.” Who the heck wants to read about my writing process? (and, I’m lazy.)
You do. Color me surprised.
I can’t comment on how others write. I have no clue. I just figured out my own process. I’ll be rambling from now on—-as usual.
Basically, I go in blind. I have the beginning, the climax and the ending when I start a story. How I get to each point is a magical mystical journey. The Loyal can influence the course of direction and can be so insightful it’s scary.
A big thing is to “Appreciate your Readers.” Someone has taken their precious time to devote to you and I think a kudos acknowledgement as a big deal. I mean, I get a kick when I review a story and I get a shout out. Even if the review is less than stellar, you have influenced someone to contact you. Even if it is to tell you that it sucked, and that you should get a beta. Why would I want a fish?
What I post to AFF is a first draft. Maybe, I should have a beta, but I crave instant gratification. I know; I’m a sad, sad individual. The words come straight from my brain to my word processor; are filtered slightly by the internal spell checker and grammar alerts.
So, I don’t think I’m qualified to teach anyone, but I’m more than willing to chat about my process. If you have questions, I’ll try and answer them or bullshit my way through. If you have any question, R&R. You should R&R stories anyway. It helps the author and provides inspiration to keep updating frequently.
Below is the catalyst that got me off my ass to write this. Enjoy.

Q: Some pointers on writing a story.
Oh good Lord….I have no clue what the hell I’m doing half the time. I guess, my big thing is to work with your strong points. Some people can do descriptions really well. (As you can tell, I’m not one of them. Ie. What color are Chesterton’s eyes?) I can do dialogue so easily though. I write my dialogue then have to go back and add in description especially if you can’t tell who is supposed to be talking.
Take your time, don’t rush it. [Big pointer here. Had to learn that one the hard way]
If the characters want to discuss something over breakfast instead of heading off on a killing spree or to bed, you let them. (that probably sounds strange, but after a while the characters become their own individuals. Ie. Az is not going to cry over a ‘sappy’ tv commercial, or cry over having to kill a child – that is not his character. But to have his identity shaken and his heart and soul trampled will finally get the tears going.) If your characters are complete [believable] they will resist you trying to write them into situations that they would never get themselves into. That is always a pain in the ass if you have to scrap pages because they just aren’t working.
Cake started as a vivid dream. Okay, overly erotic dream for me. I woke up in my own pool of drool at 4;12 am and fumbled to the computer and started writing it down. Little did I know that it would morph into something this long or this complicated. As long as the characters you are writing about believe the world they are in is real, you should have the makings of a story that others want to read too.
I’m rambling. I don’t know if this will help. I’ve always written, so I never really tried to sit down an analyze it. My brain hurts now….waaahhh.
