Descent Into Madness
\" So, those are Korasu\'s twins? How very darling they are. They\'ll make wonderful additions to the Akino family.\"
Two little boys, the oldest six, the youngest five, both watched silently as the man they called Father was lowered down into the cold grave. Shivering, the youngest, Eiri, held onto his brother as he wiped at the tears that fell from his eyes. When his mother would ask later on, he would just say that it had been the rain. The oldest, Seraph, had no tears, merely watching silently.
Their mother had told them not to cry, that the man had not been their father. She had said that afterwards they would go and live with their real father. Eiri didn\'t really understand what was going on, but Seraph understood. He had always been smart for his age, and he knew just why the man they had called Father was being put in the ground. It wasn\'t because he was going to sleep, as their mother had told him and Eiri, it was because the man was dead.
\" Who\'s going to be here to watch him sleep, Nii-chan? Won\'t he get lonely sleeping all alone?\" Eiri asked, his little voice soft.
Seraph looked at his brother, sighing softly. \" He\'s an adult Eiri-chan, he doesn\'t need anyone watching over him.\"
Eiri shook his head, peering down into the huge hole. \" But... But what if it storms, Papa will be scared.\"
The people had begin to leave, their mother whispering harshly for them to hurry up and leave also. Seraph held his little brother\'s hand tightly, pulling him away from the grave. As much as he wanted to tell his little brother the truth, he knew that it would only cause his little brother to cry. And if he was to cry, then Mother would punish him.
\" He won\'t get scared Eiri, he\'s not a scaredy-cat like you are. And remember, Mommy will get mad if she hears you call him Papa, so don\'t call him that around anyone but me, okay?\" Seraph asked, pausing to look back at his brother.
Eiri looked down at his feet, biting on his bottom lip. He didn\'t understand why their mom didn\'t want them to call that man Papa anymore, nor did he understand why he had to move. He didn\'t want to move from their house, he wanted to stay their until Papa woke. The day before Papa had went to sleep, he had promised that he would take him fishing.
\" But Seraph...\"
\" You can\'t call him Papa! Promise me you won\'t Eiri!\" Seraph said harshly.
Hearing his brother\'s harsh voice, he froze, tears coming to his eyes. Why were Mommy and Seraph-niichan being so mean to him? Had he done something wrong? Pulling his hand free from Seraph, he began to rub at his eyes with fisted hands.
\" Why is everyone being so mean to me? First Papa goes to sleep, and leave Eiri all alone. Then Momma hits Eiri for calling Papa papa. Now Nii-chan is being mean to me\" Eiri cried out, beginning to sob.
Mouth open slighlty, Seraph walked up to his little brother, pulling him into arms. He held his little brother tightly, stroking his blond hair. Neither boy paid any attention to the pouring rain, even though both were quite soaked. Eiri clutched at his brother\'s shirt with small hands, continuing to cry. Even though there mother had said that they couldn\'t cry, he couldn\'t help it. Seraph didn\'t mind though, if their mother said anything, he would just say that Eiri had tripped.
\" I\'m sorry Eiri-chan. It\'ll be okay. I promise you, I\'ll watch over you, and take care of you\" Seraph whispered to his brother.
After a few minutes, Eiri released his brother, wiping at his face. He nodded, a small smile coming onto his face as he reached forward and took his brother\'s hand. He should have known that Seraph would protect him, Seraph always protected him. Even when Momma was mad at him and was getting ready to punish him, Seraph would always step in and protect him.
\" Okay Nii-chan\" Eiri replied, feeling just a little bit better.
Seraph reached forward and wiped at his brother\'s eyes with the back of his hand, leaning forward and kissing his forehead. \" No more tears?\"
Eiri\'s smile widened, what Seraph had just done was what their papa usually did whenever he had stopped crying.
\" Yes, tear all gone\" he answered.
Squeezing his brother\'s hand gently, Seraph begin to lead him away from the graves, back to his mother, who would probably be waiting to punish them. Seraph didn\'t care though, he would just take the blame, as long as his brother wasn\'t punished, he didn\'t care what happened to him. No matter what, he would always look after his little brother, no matter what happened.
