Battered
"Battered"

I see her standing by
Combing her fingers through her hair
Peering at a face in a hand-held mirror
Hardly recognize her now
Eyes are shadowed, hollow and blank
A million years or a span of days
Who can ever tell
Who can ever tell
I see her walking by
Blonde hair hiding a purple bruised face
Blue eyes larger than life
Afraid to seek that which she knows
Lies are easier than the truth
Her soul is dragging on the ground
A million years or a span of days
Who will ever know
Who will ever know
I can see her hiding near
Struggling not to be seen
Bandages needing to be changed
Blood seeping through the clothe
Like the holes in her heart
She longs to crawl inside
And never know
And never know
The pain
Again.
