What You See Isn't Me
Searching through the interwebs
Clicking on the highlightsZooming past the insightsType a query, press enterHoping to find the inescapable answerNot to life or how the world worksNot to fads, diets, or teenage twerksCelebrity gossip, ins and outs of the mainstreamImages passing me by like a past dreamNot the whos and whys and whats that fillNot what can be bought, buried, or found using the green
bill
What I look for can’t be found so easily
As it exists just beyond my capabilityTo define, to find, to explain or rationalizeA way to make you see what I seeTo take you on a trip beyond the mind’s eyeTo bring to light all the wrong in meTo drag out this putrid darkness that haunts meTo maybe think that as weak as I amTo maybe see how tired I amIs not because I refuse to stand upThat I refuse to man upTo do what needs beBecause what you see,It ain’t really meSuffocating, debilitating, energy drainingConstant as the sun risesThe inner pain and struggle never diesI stand on two weary feetI walk with two broken kneesI breathe through punctured lungsMy heart beats through severed stringsEveryday a new chance for despairEveryday a new chance for destructionThrough my own ties that bindA darkness that I always findI struggle through invisible wallsLeeching hands holding when I fallDeafening judgments ringing silentImages bringing me to violenceI stand alone at the edgeI look down as my toes creep over the ledgeI rise up not because I canI fall not because I am weakI breathe not because I shouldI live not because I was given lifeWhen the darkness hates youWhen the light tortures youWhere twilight burns you throughAnd shadows smile cruelly up at youThe world is no longer an oysterNo longer a fairy tale waiting to come trueWhere the demons that lie in front of youAre safer than the ones you createA mind’s eye is the devil’s playgroundAnd the whispered what ifs become your nightmaresA world of imaginationWill turn your darkest thoughts realAnd when you finally realizeThat nowhere will you ever be safeThat is where you will find meStanding not because I canAching not because I am lazyCrying not because I am unworthySmiling not because I am arrogantBut because I live this hellAnd you’re just a visitor here
