First Dance

First Dance

Her arm wrapped around his body

As he led her in slow sweet steps

The guests looking on faded.

It was just them.

Somewhere there was music,

But that didn’t matter.

They were in a void.

She let her head rest on his chest.

He kissed her tenderly on the forehead,

His breath cool mint.

She squeezed his hand that led her,

He squeezed firmly back.

“I’m here.”

She moved her body closer,

Happy that for this night at least,

He was sober.
