My Boring Life

“I, by no means, am insane.” The words seemed stale through the air as I took the knife to my shoulder blades. It was the only thing I could think of to stop the pain. It seemed to work, I cracked a smile and fell to my knees. The moon shone down like a spotlight, showing the scene ahead. A shadow on the ground made me jump like most horror film never could. I slowly turned my head and looked upon the giant bat-like wings that emerged above. All I could think of was what had led me to this point, and what could possibly become of me now. I am cursed…

I slowly opened my eyes to the bleak world around me, knowing very well what awaited me. This was one of those mornings where the fragments of light that fell upon the room seemed to dance in a happy manner. However, it was a short lived blissful moment before the alarm screeched and I unenthusiastically got up and turned it off. After a whole-hearted sigh I got dressed for the day and walked out of my dorm. I took a deep breath of fresh air, it smelled of the familiar scent of rain in a city. It could never compare to walking outside after the rain and smell of the earth and sweet smell of nature. I cracked a smile at this memory and just as fast was thrown back into reality. The walk to class was longer than usual, a handful of souls in sight. I started to snicker from the thought of most college students being too hung-over to function properly. At least that is the excuse for most people on my floor. Saturday classes were never a favorite of any person, but I liked staying busy. Thankfully the feeble background noises did not let me sink too deep into my mind. In an almost organized way I snapped out of my tranquil state just before the teacher dismissed class. The rest of the day went by just as normal, so did the rest of the week. The days seemed to melt together and I slowly lost track of time. The mind numbing pain of a repetitive life is all that lingered in the darkness. The only hope I had was looking towards the future, and moving ever slowly closer. The dreams however, were always vivid enough to make me take a step back.

The first view was of the crystal clear waters, the ocean sparkled as if its floor were diamonds glistening in the sun. Atop the rocky cliff I stood, staring into the sunrise. The sea air was mixed with the scent of various flowers and honeysuckle, it was enough to make me turn and see the perfection of reality that was the ground I was standing on. The hills and valleys flowed flawlessly together, the flowers and the trees looked as though they were planned. I turned once more, revealing a castle atop a mountainside. I took a step, yearning to explore this new and beautiful world. As quickly as it appeared it faded, for with the first step I took, everything disappeared...

I was unable to get this dream from my head, so deep into thought that when Bekah sat down next to me, it was enough to make me jump. The rest of the crew soon after arrived and the day went by just as many did before. At least it seemed that way until the bad news arrived.

“What do you mean I owe five thousand dollars!?“

“It is all clearly stated in your bill”

“No, this is not right, I don’t have that kind of money!”

“That is none of our concern”

“Yes it is, LOOK,” I then clearly pointed out where they made the mistake, “I owe money because you guys didn’t give me the full scholarship that you promised, you promised nine thousand dollars a semester and you only gave me seven a semester, there is the other money right there”

“The billing department does not make those kind of mistakes”

“And what’s this? You billed me a scholarship?”

“Oh that, well you see you got this scholarship to replace that one so we had to bill you the difference because you cannot have both of these scholarship’s at once”

“Lets just pretend what you just said made any sense for one second, you billed me one dollar more than the one I received, which, correct me if I am wrong, cancels BOTH of them out all together, thereby making me owe another thousand dollars”

“I am sorry there is nothing I can do”

“Yes, and there is nothing I can do either, Thank You for ruining my future. Have a nice day!”

College was the one thing I wanted more than anything else, it was even more important to me than love, knowledge means a better future, which means I can make something of myself. Then, once I have some form of success, that’s when I can start thinking of silly things such as love. After all, you cannot miss something you never had. And now my future was bleak. After the semester ended, so did my hopes of becoming something great.Taking the tread through the art world is where I thought that I could prove myself.
