Blind Love

Tyler stood in front of his father, waiting for him to explode at what he had just told him. The young man couldn't hold it in any longer, couldn't lie to himself. He was in love with her and he wasn't going to deny it anymore.

“Father,” he began.

“This is shameful, disgraceful, and I will not allow you to continue to play this game of yours,” the graying haired man spoke, pointing his finger at his offspring. The authority in his voice was one that had been heard in the rooms of the house for years.

Deep brown eyes stared at the boy. He was a reflection of himself in his early age – brown hair, brown eyes, sharp features and a quick mind. He couldn't believe the audacity of the man that stood across from him, his son. “I will not allow it, Tyler.”

“If you think that you can stop me father,” he spoke, leaving the sentence unfinished.

“You have no idea what I can and can not do, boy. You can keep her, just don't marry her.”

“Why? Because of our name? 'Byrnes must not marry below their class',” he spoke the words from heart. All his life, his father had repeated this to him. But Tyler realized that class, blood or money didn't matter as much as his father had claimed. “I love Lauren and I will marry her, father.”
