“Talking”

‘Thinking’

<Speaking another language

Everything happened too fast. He was just going to his room when the warning alarms filled the air. His body went rigged with fear. In that split second, he tore off down the hall for the back exit. He grabbed the knob twisted and ran smack into the door when it didn’t open. His hand jerked the knob causing the door to shake and rattle. The sounds of heavy boots clunking along the wood floor drew closer behind him. He grabbed the wooden walking stick by the door and slammed it against the frosted glass. It shattered giving him a good look outside.

The click made him gulp as he stared cross eyed at the weapon that was almost pressed to his nose. His hands rose when the footsteps caught up. “Be good now. Drop it or I’ll shoot.” The wood clattered to the ground as he felt hands roughly grab him and then tie his arms behind him. He was shoved onto the floor in his living room. The sounds of people ripping apart his home reached his ears. An hour later someone ran up to the man standing near him. They whispered something in his ear and the man growled. “What do you mean?”

“It’s gone…”

“Search harder! I don’t want one floorboard untouched! Pull this house apart piece by piece!”

He chuckled. Dark eyes flashed in the darkness when the man heard him. The cool metal pressed to the side of his head. “You won’t find it here.”

“Where is it!?” The snarl only made him laugh. “I wake from my Slumber to find it gone!”

“To think I stumped one of the feared sky raiders.” His grin went feral then he tipped his head back. His laugh was hollow. “You, Chaos of the Luchs, will never find what I took from you!”

The man snarled as the gun clicked. The gun made a loud bark as blood splattered across the ground. He turned and growled. “Find something, now!”

Everyone started to rush around the house ripping up floorboards and ripping out drawers. Two hours passed and then a shout cut through the heavily tense atmosphere. “I found a clue!” Chaos turned to see one of his men run up to him with a frame in hand. “Right here.”

In the picture was a small boy no older than seven standing with a young woman and a smaller child in her arms. The cat ears that sat on the two smiling people were straight forward. He flipped it over and yanked the back off tossing it to the side. On the back he found writing. We miss you, visit soon. Chelsea, Aden and Coala. Looking back at the picture he saw the pendent hanging from the boy’s neck. “That’s not it.”

“But it is. It looks… ehehe…” He held his hand up as that gun pushed against his temple.

“Mine has a red stone. It’s red! Not this cold color!”

The picture was tugged from his hand and he whirled around. “Chaos, cool down. You’re too trigger happy today.” He twisted the picture to the side. “Hmmm… I need to take a closer look. Maybe we should start there.”

“Don’t call me trigger happy when that’s your problem.”

“But still…” he pinched the photo between his pointer finger and thumb as he waved it in front of his face, “we should just go make sure. Ask some questions.”

He snatched it from the other male, “Fine! Find out where this place is at.” His booted feet thudded as he walked. “Burn this house to the ground!!”

Chaos stared at the picture. The child was grinning as he waved at the person most likely taking the photo. The woman had one arm wrapped around the child’s shoulders with her chin resting on his head while the small child was held in her other arm.

Feathers whispered through the air as he silently moved through the brush. A soft whirring sound drifted to two smoky blue ears on his head. He stopped then rushed to a tree. Swiftly, he climbed the tree up to the top. His jumps and swings all fluid from years of practice. Once at the top, he watched as a large ship landed in the clearing at the edge of the forest. The wind that was kicked up rushed past him causing his scarf to flap back behind him. Black feathers littering the end of the scarf fluttered in the wind. The black cloak that wrapped around him was tossed back showing his lean and lithe frame.

There was a loud screech above him. He tipped his head back as a large bird swooped down at him. It batted its wings. Clawed feet landed on his shoulder as it stood proudly. Its own puffed chest was even with the younger male’s head.

<We have visitors. Should we go see if they’re friendly?> The hawk-like bird made a sound and took off as he dropped down from the branch.

So how is it? What do you think? Should I continue? Reviews welcomed.
