A man and a woman can’t share what it’s like to be in pain at least once a month

They can’t laugh it off one second and bitch the next

They’re not limited twice a month to touching

Not like the two of us

I still smile when I think of that face you make

The one where you’re extremely frustrated

Like you want me to do something, but you know I can’t

No one will ever know the joy I feel from being with you

How the stares that seep in to your very soul don’t matter to me

How when I’m holding your hand it seems like the world is glaring at the two of us

It’s ok though

We’ll take on the world together

I find it funny when you do the things you do

Like when you check me out and don’t think I notice

Or when you wrap your arms around my waist

And you look in the mirror and smile at the two of us together

No one can surprise me the way you do

Like when I came home from work and the bed was made

The room was picked up

I think you knew it wasn’t going to be cleaned by me

How I wish you left a letter on the bed

I wasn’t going to see you for another week

But it felt like forever

I still have that text message you sent me

You know

The one where you’re talking to me about being my girlfriend

And the ring you gave me the first day I came over your house

I never take it off

Sometimes when I’m alone I read your messages

They always manage to make me laugh

I love how you tend to yell at me in Spanish

Even though you know I don’t know what you’re saying

And your tone of voice

It’s always caring with that essence of anger

Like you want to shake me

And wonder why I do and say the things I do

Like when we have our problems

And we both want to bawl our eyes out

How in the end we wind up crying together

You make my heart leap when you text me at work

When I sneak into the bathroom to look at the message you left

When I quickly text you back

Even though I mean to say so much more

I love the smile you get when I surprise you

When I bring you sunflowers unexpectedly

Or when I make you something

I like it too

I still have every drawing you’ve ever given me

Every letter you’ve ever written

Every picture we’ve taken

I have it all

Even if you thought it was deleted

And yes, I was talking about the embarrassing ones too

I love how our love is our own

How you’re my lover

How you’re my best friend

How you’re pretty much my everything

My heart combined makes it so much more worth it

I love how I read all of these messages and poems

The ones about heartache and breakup

The ones that say you’re not going to make it

The ones that say we’ll fail

It’s not about showing them

I could care less about them to be honest

In the end

I just want to be with you

I believe in us

Even when sometimes

It feels like I don’t
