Prologue - Moments

Thinking back to when you were younger is a strange thing. Our memories are such a mess, life never unfolds like a movie instead we’re just left with a random collection of half-remember moments that either blur when we try to pick out the details or jump out with surprising focus. Try hard to remember what your principle talked about at your high school graduation. Or picture the face of that kid who sat next to you all fourth grade who’d crack jokes about other kids in class. Jacob? Joshua? It’s just a haze of things your not quite sure are being remember correctly.

But then there are the other things. When you and your best friend got into your first real angry fight. The look on your mom’s face when you got clipped by a car outside of school. The way you’d feel jealous when your babysitter talked with her boyfriend on the phone. Intense physical memory, you still can’t remember all of it, but the details remain vividly.

Moments you still wish you’d done something different. Moments that still hurt.

Moments you still can’t believe actually happened.

It was the summer I was seventeen. It’s only really moments but I’ll never be able to forget them.
