Gift or curse

Jiaya rubbed his cheek against his mate's stomach. His empathy allowing him to feel exactly how content Yuudai was with their positions. He felt his mind drifting off, he hadn't always appreciated this gift. His ability had been more trouble for him than anything even since before he was born.

The small scar on his side near his hip, all the old marks that were finally fading on his arms. Any bruise, any cut, had in some fashion, stemmed from the simple fact he'd had that gift.

"You can't do that, think of yourself! Who cares about the baby! You can't just kill yourself!"

"I don't care! I don't want this baby! Ever since I've gotten pregnant with it I've felt everything! All these feelings that aren't mine, these weird cravings, I can't take it anymore!" The woman screeched back at her husband, brandishing a knife before stabbing it into her stomach.

Jia stared at his mother, his mind slowly blanking as she used yet another needle on him. The day before it was his father. They put him in long sleeved shirts on days he actually got to go to school. During the times he could think, he hated the drugs. Hated his family for doing this to him.

Jia was never sure what he had done or was doing to deserve this, but his mother and father were always doing this. Anytime his mind started to become his own again they'd reappear with that drug. She sighed and looked over at his father.

"It's time to switch again, or strengthen it. I can still /feel/ it." Jia lowered his eyes, through his foggy thoughts he knew this would only mean he'd get even worse until his body adjusted to whatever they were using on him.

"Why do you keep me..." Jia whispered.

His mother looked down at him in contempt. "Do you have any idea what people would say? Stupid, keep your mouth shut." She raised her hand, then frowned as her husband stopped her.

"You'll just hurt yourself until we can up the dosage." She stormed off, dragging his father with her.

Jia swayed and leaned against a wall. He pressed a shaky hand to his head and closed his eyes. His school bag slung over a shoulder. Jia felt a hand close over his shoulder and shove him hard against the bricks.

"Well, look what we have here." The teen who'd shoved him sneered down at him. Jia's eyes couldn't even focus on his face or those of the people around them.

As he'd gotten older, the doses had increased, along with mixes of different ones. His odd behavior from it along with his looks just made school even more troubling to go to. Things like what was happening to him now. He felt his sleeve being shoved up his arm but couldn't make himself push back at the one holding him.

"Knew he was a junkie. One of us aren't you, freak?" He held up a needle, and that caught Jia's attention. An unknown liquid swirling around in it, which was rare. Jia jerked back, but couldn't free his arm from the other's grasp. The needle was pressed into his arm and the plunger pushed.

Jia screamed as it mixed with what was left in his system. The mix sending him to his knees as it burned and he started to faint. His scream had startled some of the group around him, the one holding him suddenly letting him go. Half the dose still in the needle he held.

As he blacked out, he caught a glimpse of a golden ponytail and heard the sounds of fighting. A small smile crossed his face, the only friend he had had come to help him.

"Do you realize that dose would have put a normal user in ICU, and killed someone who had never used?"

"No, I had no idea." There was concern in both voices as Jia woke.

Jia groaned, the soft words filtering through his mind. Pale blue eyes flew open as he realized he could actually think. His body hurt like hell, and his head was pounding, but there wasn't a foggy feeling in his head.

"Jia?" At Jia's soft noise of pained acknowledgment, his friend's face appearing in his field of vision.

"Mis-chief." Jia whispered. He licked his lips, then asked, "Where..?"

"Home, my brother's place. Ravyn was taking a look at you and Maja. He wants us all to move to his temple to help you and Maja heal. Is that alright?" Jia felt something shift in his chest.

"Heal..? Please.." Jia murmured before passing out again.

Time had passed, and heal they had. Shedding his old name had helped him more than he had thought it could. Jiaya was the only name he answered to now. His body got used to not having drugs in it a day at a time. And he spend his time learning how to help others, finding he wanted to repay the healer/priest that had taken them all in.

His empathy had startled the others the first time it had activated on touch. He had still never liked it or really appreciated it, until he'd met Yuudai. The fact he could feel what his lover felt, or reassure him by letting him feel what he did, it finally made him appreciate his empathy as a gift and not a curse.
