Comforting Whisper

"I don't want to give up being a hunter! I'm the boss, I worked damn hard to not have do that years ago!" Takeshi shouted up at his larger partner, ignoring the look in his eyes so he could hold onto his anger.

"I never asked you to! I only asked for something I thought we both wanted, a family!" Amisu sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Takeshi knew his winged partner hated it when they argued. But he couldn't have a family with him. He'd killed so many on hunts, even if they had earned it. A couple that might not have. He felt he didn't deserve a family, so he was denying he wanted one.

Takeshi twisted towards the door, "I'm leaving, I have a hunt." He growled and opened the door.

"Good hunt." Takeshi nearly turned around at those quiet words. He hadn't expected his lover to say them, or anything, after their argument. He made a soft, non-commital noise. Amisu had spoken first, even if he was still irritated he could acknowledge the fact that he'd heard. Waving once he walked out the door, and missed the look Amisu gave him.

He'd been gone for a week, much longer than he'd anticipated. Longer than it would have taken him on his own. It had given him more than enough time to figure out how inane the argument had been. He'd had time between mental curses at his partner to wonder why he'd been arguing with Amisu over something he wanted too.

On top of that, a nagging worry that Amisu wouldn't be there when he got back. That he would find someone who wouldn't have argued against something they wanted. Would that last 'good hunt,' translate into goodbye? Irritated and worried he sent his partner to do the paperwork and headed home.

It felt like it had taken forever to find someone who'd understood his nature. His need to work so much and stay being the best at something others had said he wouldn't be able to. Who cared less about the fact his eyes were mechanical and more about the fact that they only really saw him.

A wry smile twisted his mouth. Who for their first time, had molested him until he'd admitted he liked it, and begged for more. Didn't take the threats seriously when he didn't comply. Takeshi was relieved he hadn't ruined all that when he saw a light on in the house.

He swallowed and leaned against the door when it closed behind him. His winged lover was sleeping on the backless couch they'd bought, with it turned so it was facing the door.

"'k'shi." Amisu murmured in his sleep, voice warm with sleepy affection when Takeshi finally moved and touched his hair. The last of Takeshi's unease vanished and he smiled. It was the most comforting whisper he'd ever heard.

Takeshi paused as Amisu slowly opened his eyes and caught him touching his hair. His lover sat up and drew him onto his lap before he could make even a token protest. With a mental sigh he gave in, hands clenching in Amisu's shirt.

"I'm...sorry...Amisu." Takeshi said as he leaned in, resting his head against Amisu's chest. "I do want it. I want a family. I don't want to lose you over something we both want.." Takeshi heard Amisu's breath catch for a moment before he was hugged tightly. He closed his eyes, soaking in the warmth of the embrace.

"We'll have one." Amisu said softly. Takeshi could hear the gentle smile in it as he slid his arms around Amisu. He nodded, starting to fall asleep, reassured by the safety he always felt around Amisu. All the missed sleep from being worried during the long week he'd been gone catching up with him.

"Love you." He barely heard himself say, edges of his conscience feeling pleasantly fuzzy.

"Love you too." He heard before falling asleep, safe in his lover's arms and home at last.
