Chapter One:
“Why the hell do I have to find that bastard’s son?” the demon king’s best commander Alistair howled in anger and frustration.
“It is Maya’s wish, and you will do as you are ordered Alistair,” replied the demon king.
“When the hell did you start obeying Maya’s every wish, Your Highness? I thought that you were the one who was in charge in your relationship,” remarked Alistair.
“Maya is my source of power. I would give him the moon if I had to. Alistair, you will do as you are ordered,” the demon king demanded, his eyes glowing with anger. “Don't forget what Maya did for you eighteen years ago Alistair. If it wasn't for him, you---”
“I got it Your Highness! There is no need for you to remind me. I do not wish to remember what happened eighteen years ago,” Alistair cut his king off. He turned around and walked out of the chamber.
Eighteen years ago, he lost the one person he loved the most in his life. There was no one to blame but himself. He had been living in loneliness and sorrow for the past eighteen years, deep in the woods, alone and blaming himself for Dan’s death. Not a moment went by that he didn't think of Dan. He visited Dan’s grave every day and put flowers on his grave. He would lay down next to Dan’s grave and stare up at the sky, imagining Dan smiling down at him from heaven. That was the only thing that kept him alive till this day. Of course his son Danny was another reason why he was reminded of Dan. Every time he looked at his son, he was reminded of Dan. He blamed himself even more for causing his son to grow up without a dad.
“Why are you frowning Alistair?”
Alistair turned to face the person who asked him the goddamned question. “Your dad made your father send me on an errand, boy, and I am not pleased with it,” he replied.
“Really? I find that very amusing.”
"Urian, don't you have anything better to do than to annoy me?” Alistair sighed.
Urian laughed. “No,” he replied with a grin.
“I don't have time to waste on you. I have to get ready to leave as soon as possible.” With that said, Alistair walked away. He didn't make it far when the boy announced to him that he and Keriya would be joining him on the search for Maya’s missing brother. He groaned and continued on. Just his luck to get stuck with a bunch of brats on his first mission back.

“Skylas you lazy boy! Where is my food?”
Coming up the stairs as fast as he could, the boy carried a heavy tray filled with food and wine. He stopped in front of the man’s room, and opened the door to step inside. “It’s about time that you got here boy!” he heard the man say harshly to him. “What took you so long with my food?” the man wanted to know.
“I was showing a guest to his room,” replied Skylas.
The man grunted and Skylas knew that the man had accepted his excuse. He didn't dare to let out a sigh of relief in front of the man though. Instead he placed the tray in his hand down onto the table. “Sir, one of the servant boys quit today,” he broke the news to the man.
“Why?” This was all the man asked before he coughed.
“One of the guests made advances at him, Sir,” Skylar replied. “Do you want to hire another helper?” he asked the man.
“Hell no. I don't want to waste another silver hiring brats who can't endure a little touching,” said the greedy owner. “Skylas, you will have to do his job as well, now that we are not hiring anymore.”
“As you wish Sir,” said Skylas.
“Good. Now that we have had this little talk, you can run along now. I don't want my guests to be kept waiting,” the man said right before he let out another sickly cough. “And Skylas, I want you to come to my room tonight,” the man added when Skylas was almost out of the room.
“Yes sir,” Skylas forced the words out of his mouth. Then he left, closing the door behind him. He leaned back against the wooden door and closed his eyes. Tonight, he would have to come up with another excuse to save himself. Something that the man had not yet heard in the time since he had made it loud and clear to Skylas that he wanted him in his bed. He was going to have to ask his one and only friend, the cook downstairs, for some advice, Skylas thought. With a sigh he went downstairs. That night, his friend the cook came up with a plan to help him out of his situation. He went to bed that night as pure as the day he was born.

“What are we doing here Alistair?" Urian asked as he watched a rough looking man drinking down a whole jug of wine. "Really Alistair, what are we doing here in human territories?” he whined.
“According to our information, that bastard Ramsey’s son is here in this inn,” Alistair answered the whiney boy.
“Are you serious? My uncle is here? I don't believe this!” Urian sighed and slumped back in his chair.
“Hey Urian! Are you really going to call him uncle? From what I heard from my dad, your uncle is younger than you. Don't you find it strange to call a man who is younger than you “uncle”?” Keriya, his best friend since childhood pointed out to him.
“You have a point there Keriya, but it can't be helped. He is my dad’s younger brother. What choice do I have?” Urian said with a shrug of his shoulders.
“Maya would kill you if you disrespected him boy,” Alistair commented. “He raised you the same way that Dan raised him,” he added.
“That's why I love my dad so very much. For him I would put up with anything, even my father’s constant complaints about me not wanting to marry Mira.”
Alistair raised his eyebrows. “I have never seen Mira before, so I don't know what he looks like, but if the demon king wants you to marry him, he must have a reason.”
“He has a reason alright. It just so happens that I don't like his reason, and besides, I haven't seen Mira since we were seven. What he looks like now is beyond me. As far as I know, he could be as ugly as that man over there,” he nodded his head at the rough looking man from earlier.
“If I recall correctly Urian, your fiancé is a very pretty boy.” His friend Keriya said as he remembered their childhood days.
“He was just a little boy Keriya, of course he would be pretty back then. We are talking about now,” Urian whined to his friend.
All three of them suddenly stopped talking when they saw a young man come downstairs from the top floor of the inn. Alistair almost fell right out of his chair. Dan. That young man looked like Dan. When Dan was seventeen years old, he looked exactly like that boy. Snowy white skin, beautifully shaped eyebrows and alluring brown eyes with long dark eyelashes. The boy carried the same sweet, innocent aura as Dan had when he was at that age, and still had when he died. Alistair watched as the young man went down the hall and disappeared into the back of the inn.
“I only have one thing to say, he is pretty!” Urian said with a big grin.
“I agree with you on that my friend,” said Keriya.
Alistair didn't say anything. He was still shocked at finding a man who looked like his most beloved person. He was so lost in his thoughts, that he didn't hear footsteps approaching them until Urian waved his hand in front of his face to get his attention. He glanced up to see a young man standing between Keriya and Urian. “So you all finally reached this damn place huh?” he heard the young man say.
“Yes we have William, thanks to you,” said Urian.
“You should thank my father Gareth,” replied William.
“Alright, enough with the chit chat. Just point the boy out to me so that I can get out of this place!” Alistair cut into the boys’ conversation.
“Skylas!” William yelled out. A moment later, the pretty boy they had seen earlier came walking towards them with a frown on his face.
Skylas stopped short when his eyes locked with one of the men at the table William was at. The man was older than the other two, but still handsome. His light brown eyes watched Skylas as he slowly approached the table. He had never walked as slowly as this before in his life.
“What do you want William? Don't you see that I'm busy, and why are you out here, shouldn't you be in the kitchen cooking?” Skylas asked his friend the cook when he reached the table. He avoided all possible eye contact with the older man across from his friend.
“I will return to the kitchen soon. There is no need to worry Skylas. That bastard can't fire me, he needs me to cook for his customers.”
Skylas sighed in frustration with his friend. “Very well, do as you like, but don't say that I didn't warn you,” he told his friend then he went back to work. Only when he had returned to the back room to wash the dishes, did he realize that his friend William had not answered his question. He wondered what William had wanted with him when he called him out like that. Well he would just have to ask William later. Skylas sighed and started washing the dishes once more.
A hand suddenly came from out of nowhere and turned him around. He came face to face with the older man that he had just seen at the table. His heart started pounding, and he could feel his cheeks becoming warmer. Skylas turned his face away. 'You are not allowed in here,” he managed to say.
"I have been ordered to bring you back to your parents. Go up to your room and pack your bags, we will be leaving right away!” Alistair ordered. He expected the boy to comply without a fight, but that was not to be the case. The boy looked up at him. His face was filled with anger and bewilderment.
“Who are you to come here and lie to me? My parents died long ago, and they left me here all alone in this---”
“The parents you grew up with were not your true parents, boy. They kidnapped you from your real parents. I came here to fetch you on your brother’s order. Like it or not, you are coming with me, even if I have to carry you over my shoulder,” Alistair’s voice warned the boy to not dare challenge him.
“To be honest with you boy, I didn’t even want to look for you, but it was an order from my king and I could not refuse,” Skylas heard the hate and disgust in the man’s voice when he said this.
“I am not a ten year old who believes in dreams that could never come true. I suggest that you leave me alone and return to whatever place you came from!” Skylas said angrily. Then he pushed the man away and marched out of the back room. Before he could make it very far, Alistair grasped his hand and pulled him back toward him. Before he knew it, he was thrown over the man’s shoulder with his buttocks facing the front and his head facing the man’s broad back. He started kicking his feet, and demanding that the man let him down.
“Alistair! What are you doing?” Urian asked when he saw Alistair come out of the room with his young uncle kicking and screaming.
“What does it look like to you Urian?” replied Alistair.
“If my uncle tells my dad about this, he is not going to like it,” said Urian. He shivered in fear of what his dad would do to them if he found out about this. His father was scary, but his dad was even scarier when he was angry. Urian could not remember how many times his dad had shifted from white to red in a blink of an eye, and killed those who had dared to hurt him and his friends.
“If he tells Maya, I will take full responsibility for it boy, now get moving! I don't want to spend another second in this dump.” With that said, Alistair carried the feisty boy away.
------------
Maya relaxed in the icy cold water, gently washing his body, when the demon king came into the bathing chamber. It took only a glance for him to know that the demon king was in a foul mood. He dismissed the two servants, who were more than happy to leave them alone. He couldn't blame them. The demon king could be terrifying when he was angry. At his worst, he would kill whoever was nearby to ease his foul mood. “Why are you in such a terrible mood Kai?” he asked the demon king.
“Our son is the reason why I am in such a mood,” replied the demon king.
“What did he do this time?" Maya asked, wanting to know what Urian had done to make Kai this angry.
“You want to know what our son did Maya? He and Jarrett’s son Keriya went with Alistair on his mission. Mira, his fiancé will be here in three days, and Urian went off just like that. Is he trying to start a war between the red demon and me?”
Maya went silent and his eyes widened. He finally saw why his son left without permission from his father. He raised both his hands up from the water, and cupped the demon king’s face. “Everything will be alright. I have a plan Kai,” he said with a smile. “When Mira arrives, bring him to me and I will take care of the rest.”
“What are you going to do Maya?” the demon king asked out of curiosity.
“Well, since our son ran away, the only thing left for his fiancé to do is to chase after him.”
The demon king sensed that there was more to Maya’s plan. He decided to sit back and let Maya take care of the problem with their son. As for himself, he had another important matter to take care of.
The end of chapter one.
