Prologue: Edie
--
Lift, stir, sip… Lift, stir, sip… This chronic routine kept clear in the young teenager’s mind as she happily fixed on making an eatable meal for her family. Though with little ingredients, she knew that her hearty stew would make her parents proud. And why shouldn’t they be? If not for their daughter, the two would fight for survival in their broken village. Their thoughtful, yet shaky old neighbors could only manage to harvest few crops at a time, and to their disadvantage, meat was scarce. Only two to three cows, and four to five chickens came within reach every five or so years. Lift, stir, sip… Boiling over a small kindle, the young lady knew it was just about done.
While covering the stew using a worn-out shield, the teenager jumped as she heard her father calling from the next room.
“Edie!” she could hear him shout. “You better not be hogging it all to yerself in there!”
Sighing, Edie shook her head annoyingly, yet a smile could not help but grace her lips. She knew far well that her father was only teasing, and indeed, within only seconds, she could hear her mother scolding him quite loudly and, unfortunately, without effect.
“It’s about ready!” Edie called. She grabbed three stained wooden bowls. They had been in the family since Edie was an infant. She smiled, remembering her first taste of stew. It had been made by her mother, and from that point on, Edie knew she wanted to learn to fix meals in order to help her mother and father.
Letting the stew sit for just a few more minutes, Edie took the bowls out into a room covered from head to toe in dirt. Her parents sat on a woolen blanket right in the middle of the room. The room was small, yet homey. There was a tiny center to make a fire on cold, rainy nights. To the far left was father’s handy sword, in case any predators, man or beast, decided they’d want to inspect the village. In the opposite corner sat Edie’s mothers sewing materials and a poor rocking chair. Another room was beyond where her parents slept. Edie slept in this room, but she did not mind one tiny bit.
Joining her parents on the blanket, Edie handed each of them a bowl. She placed her own bowl down and sighed as she smiled. “It smells so good.”
“My daughter the cook,” said Edie’s mother. “You work so hard, sweetheart.”
Edie looked over at her mother. “I love it, though, Mama. And I know that you and Papa can’t always -- well -- do much things like you used to anymore…”
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” asked Edie’s father as he sneered. “Are ya calling me old? I’ll have ya know that I’ve worked hard as an ox since I was eight years old, and that I’m still strong as steel.”
“Of course you are, Papa.”
“Damn straight,” he replied. He patted his stomach, grinning. “And thanks to ye and yer Ma, I don’t do too bad weight wise.”
Edie giggled at that. “The stew should be done now.”
“Want any help carrying the pot?” asked her father, but Edie only shook her head at him.
“No,” she said. “I can get it.”
Turning, she went back into the petite kitchen. Smiling, she gave the stew one final stir, absolutely loving the cooked smell of onion, cabbage, and chicken. It made her mouth water. “Good. Time to lift it.”
Using both hands, Edie slowly began lifting the pot; however, just as she lifted it about an inch off the fire, a sudden uproar from outside caused her to gasp, and she spilled the stew all over the floor as she began hearing screams.
Edie became petrified as she heard the dark noises coming from outside. Her parents called to her, but she was too stunned to reply. In seconds, her father crashed through the room, stepping over the hot stewed floor to grab her by the arm.
“Edie!” he cried. “Quickly!”
He dragged her out, and into their small main room where her mother was hurrying to open a secret shaft in the wall. It was dark, creepy, and reminded Edie of a cave.
“W -- what’s going o -- on?” she asked, finally managing to find her voice as her father shoved her into the cramped space.
“Stay in there!” he ordered her. “And don’t come out!”
“Mama!” Edie cried as she was closed inside. “Papa!”
It was dark. It would almost seem silent if not for the odd noises surrounding her. She tried to escape, but her parents had placed something heavy over the entrance, not allowing her the strength to get out. She began feeling claustrophobic as a familiar scent found her nostrils. Smoke? No -- fire? Smoke and fire.
Her village was under attack.
She began crying softly, whimpering for her mother and father. The screams and booms and bangs became agonizingly louder and louder by every passing second: a second which seemed like a minute. And all Edie could do was sit there and cry.
As fast as the chaos had seemed to come, it suddenly began to calm. Edie lifted her head, gasping as she heard unfamiliar voices trampling just near her. She knew that they were in her home, which meant that her parents weren’t there. Edie felt miserable, but knowing her father, he’d want her to keep strong. So, she covered her mouth, fighting to keep from making a single peep as she listened well to the intruders.
“What a fucking dump,” said a male’s voice, sounding slightly uneducated. “These fuckers have nothing worth our while.”
“Calm your ass down,” said another male, only this voice sounded much handsomer. “If Cain heard you talking like that, he’d drive his sword through your heart. You and I both know that sometimes villages like this one hide very well valuables.”
“Humph,” the first voice snorted. “I still think it’s pointless.”
“Just shut up and start looking.”
Edie blinked in the darkness as she heard them shuffling around. She began praying that they’d pass right by her, and not find her. To her dismay, luck wasn’t on her side. She held back a scream as the large something blocking the little entrance was easily pushed aside, and as she stared in fear, an extremely ugly man stared right back at her.
Grinning madly, the man resembled a large pig. He was bald, apart from four or five sandy hairs, and he had many missing teeth, including his left top tooth. He had a large brown wart on his left cheek, and he wore an odd green uniform made of cloth material and black boots. A sort of clothing style Edie was not used to.
“Well, well,” he cackled as he licked his bottom lip. “What have we here?”
“Ah!” Edie cried out as he grabbed her by her curly brown hair, and pulled her clumsily out of the dark space.
The other man turned around. He smiled, showing off perfectly cleaned teeth. He had a replicated uniform as the other man, yet he was not ugly, nor did he look like a pig. In fact, he was quite dreamy. Light brown hairs sat on top of his round head, and great hazel eyes stared Edie up and down.
“She’s cute,” he said. “Let’s take her outside.”
“Fuck yeah,” the other chuckled.
Edie tried fighting, but she was no match for the giant man. Soon, she was outdoors, and she began looking around for her mother and father. She noticed some of her neighbors huddled in a circle, and surrounding them stood men in uniform.. Edie wondered who exactly these men were.
As Edie was brought over to the circle, she spotted her mother and father. When let go, she ran to them and hugged them. “Mama! Papa!”
“Edie,” her father gasped. He growled. “They found you…”
“What’s going on?” Edie asked, but the look in her parents eyes told her that they had not the slightest clue. In fact, none of the villagers did.
The two men that had found her walked up to another. Edie looked over at him, for she took notice that he was dressed differently. Though he had a uniform, his was a deep, beautiful blue, and he had a large sword buckled to his left side. He wore shiny black shoes and gloves. Edie let her eyes wander up to his clean face, his stunning brown eyes, and his smooth brown hair. She decided he had to be beyond rich.
“Cain,” spoke the handsomer man. “There’s nothing here.”
The man known as Cain placed his hands behind his back as he looked over at the terrified villagers. He snorted as he spat into the ground. “Look at them all. They’re old, ugly, pathetic, and useless. What a waste of a village…” he faced the handsome man in uniform. “Mark, no findings whatsoever?”
“None,” Mark answered. “They’re worthless and poor. Nothing more.”
“Yeah,” said the ugly one. “But we did find one interesting thing…”
“Hyatt?” Cain questioned with a raised brow.
Cackling, Hyatt turned and pointed to the circle, directly at Edie. Cain’s eyes followed. They widened. The girl, though young, was quite beautiful. Curly brown locks fell past her shoulders, and she had gentle brown eyes. Her skin was covered in dirt and soot, but even so, she was not unattractive. “Hmm…”
“She’s the only one in this bunch younger than fifty,” Hyatt said. He grinned. “Ain’t she something?”
“Indeed,” Cain said, nodding. “Alright then, let’s go.”
Hyatt rubbed his hands together. He licked his bottom lip again. “Great.”
Mark and Hyatt followed behind Cain up to the villagers as other uniformed men kept them at bay. Cain stood toughly before them, glaring them down.
“Stand in a line!” he ordered. He watched them scamper to do so. Edie stood in between her parents, keeping her head bowed like many of the other shaking villagers. Once the line was formed, Cain began walking up and down it, making sure to give a full look to each single, pathetic villager before him. He was the superior, and he’d be fucked by a horse if any of them dare say otherwise.
“I should give you a reason for my appearance,” he spoke. “But I’m not sure if measly weasels such as yourselves deserve one. However, today I am feeling quite generous.”
‘So here’s the plan. If you tell me exactly what I want to know, then I shall happily leave you to your pathetic lives, and be on my way.’
Cain halted in front of Edie. “So then, tell me. Where do you keep your -- goods?”
All villagers stayed still. None dared to speak. However, one brave voice did dare. Edie’s father.
“We have nothing ye’d want,” he said.
Stiffening up, Cain slowly turned his attention on Edie’s father as one hand placed itself neatly against the cold handle of his sword. “Repeat that?”
“Nothing,” said Edie’s father. “We have nothing of value. Yer trip here was wasted, Cretchen.”
Everyone around became tense. Cain squeezed the handle of his sword hard as Edie pondered the very word that had come out of her father’s mouth.
“What did you call me?” Cain asked.
“Cretchen!” Edie’s father spat. “It’s what ya are, ain’t it? All of ye? And ye -- ye’re Cain, am I right? Captain Cain?”
When her father said this, Edie felt very baffled. She did not understand these words, but as she pondered them, she jumped slightly when she realized that the uniformed captain had started laughing. His men joined in, but only until he halted his own laughter.
Cain slowly walked up to Edie’s father. “I’m surprised an urchin of your status knows my name. I should feel honored, I suppose?”
“Not in the least,” said Edie’s father.
Glaring, Cain straightened himself. “I admire your bravery. What is your name?”
Edie’s father looked straight up at Cain, showing no fear. “Jas.”
“Jas?” Cain asked. He went silent momentarily, as if thinking of more to say. He did admire this man somewhat. Very stupid, though, for stepping up to Captain Cain, even if what he said was fact and not opinion. “Well Jas, I am sorry that things must come to this…”
At that very second, Cain grabbed Eddie’s arm, pulling her out and close to his body. Edie let out a shocked shriek as her parents gasped in terror.
“Mama!” Edie cried out. “Papa!” She panicked as she felt the captain’s unexpected left hand grab at her bosom with force. “Ah!”
“No!” screamed Edie’s mother as the uniformed men grabbed the villagers from behind.
“You’ve angered me,” Cain told them all, but left his eyes fixed on Jas. “And now this girl will feel my wrath.”
“No!” Jas shouted as he stared at his daughter. “No -- please!”
“It’s too late for apologies,” Cain glared. “What’s done is done. See what your father has done, girl?”
Edie’s mother began crying hysterically, nearly collapsing from the scene playing before her.
“Let’s see now,” Cain said as he looked around. “Ah -- that hut looks nice…” He was staring straight at Edie’s home. “Come on, girl…” He began dragging Edie towards the house.
“No!” Jas screamed as he tried breaking free. “No! Not my Edie! Please --!”
Once at the entrance, Cain forced Edie to look over at the suffering villagers. He looked up at his men and gave a single, short nod. “Kill them. All of them.”
Edie cried the loudest and hardest, watching in terror as swords ripped through the stomachs of her parents and friends. Blood spattered to the ground as the flinching few fell to the ground. It was heart-quenching, and Edie felt as if she would throw up.
“MAMA!” she shrieked. “PAPA!”
Grabbed by her arm, Edie squealed as she was roughly pushed into her home. Edie fell hard to the floor, right onto the blanket she had been sitting on with her parents only minutes ago. She shook uncontrollably as Cain came in behind her, knowing well enough that his men would know not to disturb him in such a situation as this. They’d be standing watch, cleaning up, and setting the bodies aflame. So, with that settled in his mind, he closed the curtain used as a door as he looked down at her.
Edie did not want to stare into the eyes of this man. No -- not a man. A demon. She kept her head down even as he knelt before her.
“What is your name?” she heard him ask, which startled her. His voice somehow changed, but only slightly.
Slowly, she lifted her head and stared into his eyes. His pupils seemed icy and inhumane. She did not wish to answer him. She bowed her head, but the very second she did so, she felt his large, strong hand grab her hair, yanking her neck back.. She gasped loudly, crying out in pain as he repeated his question.
“Edie,” she said, making him release her hair.
“Edie, then…” he said as he stood. “Not a bad name for a poor girl. Tell me, Edie, how old are you?”
Sniffing, she figured she had to answer him, afraid that a second yank may cause her head to rip off. “N -- nineteen.”
Cain grinned. “I see…”
Sitting up, Edie hugged herself tightly as she stared at Cain’s boots. The room became eerily silent, then. Edie was hoping that Cain would just walk out and let her be, but he spoke up again.
“Your father was right, you know,” he said. “About what I am. A Cretchen. That is what I am, and I am proud.”
Proud? Was this man insane? However, he had caught Edie’s attention. She slowly looked up at him with curious eyes. And her doing this made Cain chuckle.
“Intrigued?” he asked with a slight amount of sarcasm. He knelt and took her chin in his hand, making her shiver. “Of course you are. Everyone’s intrigued about what I am, whether you are highly classified -- or otherwise…”
He could feel her trembling just by his fingertips. This satisfied him, but it wasn’t enough. He was about to compliment her again, but to his discomfort, a sudden squeak caught him off guard, and he listened as she began stuttering words that filled him with anger.
“Y -- you -- killed them…” she had said. “M -- mama… Papa… Gone… B -- bastard… Ah!”
Edie fell back, gasping as he hovered over her. She tried getting out from under him, desperate to scramble away. She was not strong enough, and he was pushing pressure on top of her, making her groan in pain.
Using one hand, he forced his fingers to push against Edie’s cheeks as he grabbed her face. He leaned his face close to hers, sneering. “Watch your tongue, girl! If you do not behave, then I shall not hesitate to take my own sword and fucking stab out your heart!”
At that moment, everything around Edie became invisible. Nothing could have saved her from the sudden taste of Cain’s large, slimy, virulent tongue twirling inside of her mouth, forcing her own tongue to touch his. The forceful movement made Edie gag.. Her spit clogged her throat as she was smothered, and the intensity of it all made her wail horrifyingly.
Once Cain pulled away, Edie gasped for air. Tears streamed out of her eyes, leaving droplets in the dirt as she backed away, watching intensely as Cain’s hands reached for the buckle holding his pants up.
Immediately, instinct found Edie. She stood, and raced for the exit, wanting to call out for help. She had just barely made five steps when Cain’s strong arms wrapped around her legs, causing Edie to fall hard to the ground. She cried out as he began pulling her back.. She put her hands in the dirt, digging her fingernails into the ground to try and pull herself from his grasp, but Cain was too strong for her.
“No!” Edie cried out as Cain slammed her into the blanket. “Ah!” She was turned onto her back, and as she looked down, then, she watched just as Cain’s hands ripped open the top of her worn dress. She felt torn as her average, lovely breasts fell flat before the demonic captain’s eyes. The room was chilly, causing Edie’s pink nipples to poke out.
Wasting no time, Cain took only a brief glance at Edie’s breasts before forcing her to turn and sit on her hands and knees. She continued pleading as he lifted the lower part of her dress, catching sight of small cotton pants used as undergarments. With quick, steady speed, he grabbed the pants at the top and pulled them down her legs, revealing a dry, hairy vagina. It was beautiful.
Keeping his cold eyes on his prize, Cain finished unbuckling his pants as he used his legs to keep Edie’s feet pinned so she could not run from him again. His other hand laced around her tiny waist, keeping her behind reachable for his taste. He managed to pull down his pants just enough to release his savage monster, rock hard and sticky. And before Edie could manage a second plea, she surrendered to a gut-wrenching scream as Cain’s penis made its way deep inside of her virgin hole.
Indescribable pain churned Edie within. She found herself bawling as Cain began raping her at a steady speed. Edie’s fingernails dug into the blanket. She could feel Cain’s hard manhood rubbing inside her, back and forth in a hot motion.
Cain had had a feeling this girl was a virgin. He could feel a stickiness attracted to his penis, and he knew it wasn’t cum. The girl was bleeding. But her insides felt fucking amazing, and he couldn’t help but pick up his speed as he continued pounding her. By now, he could smell the burning flesh of the corpses outside. Those of the elders, and of this girl’s parents. It was quite the stench, but this did not bother Cain. He’s smelled worse. Besides, something in the back of his mind told him that this girl was one in a million, and his body did not want to stop. This made him grin.
With every new sharp pain, Edie would wail. As she was raped, she grew more and more exhausted. She began to feel more and more like a beat up doll; bruised, battered, and teased. Cain’s enormousness was too much for her petite hole, and Edie had no doubts that at any given second, she could split apart and die.
“P -- please…” she begged again, finding extra strength in her voice. “S -- stop it… Please…”
The Captain did not grant any sympathy to Edie’s pleas. In fact, he quickened his pace still, afflicting burning within Edie. She shook her head wildly, trying to crawl forward to get him out of her. She listened as Cain groaned loudly… And with it seeming like hours, truly only minutes passed as the rape ended.. Edie slumped forward, gasping as Cain pulled out of her. She could feel warmth dripping onto her back as she laid there, shaking. The substance was warm and sticky, mixed with what she knew was her blood.
It was over. A nightmare that had only lasted a few minutes.
Only a few seconds later, Edie cried bitterly as she was thrown to the ground in the center of the village. She kept her eyes shut tight as she held the woolen blanket close to her, hiding her breasts from the wandering eyes of men surrounding her. Her undergarments had been pulled back up by Cain in the hut, covering her abused vagina. Above her stood Cain with his penis back in his pants. He stared down at her as Hyatt and Mark walked over to him.
“Everything set?” he asked them.
“Yes, sir,” Mark answered as he peered down at Edie. “Bodies are disposed of. The men are ready with torches.”
“Good,” said Cain. Kneeling, he gently forced Edie to look up. “Open your eyes… And take a look, girl.”
Edie obeyed. She stared at the many men, watching as they began torching the huts. They began burning down her village; her home… It was all destroyed.
Shivering, Edie began to cry as she hugged her knees to her bosom. “Kill me…”
Snorting, though not holding back a sly smile, Cain put his arms around Edie. He was hugging her. “No. I want you to remember this. I want you to remember me, and be grateful. I am a dangerous man, Edie, a man that may someday rule over this land. And I want you to remember that I let you live. You should thank me for that.”
Standing, Cain left Edie in the dirt. He turned to Mark and Hyatt. “Ready the horses. We’re leaving.”
As they saluted and left, Cain took one final glance at Edie’s cowering figure. Raising his eyebrow, he gained a single soft smile. “Remember girl. Don’t ever forget.”
After Cain said this, the atmosphere became quiet. Nothing but the finishing crackling of fire met Edie’s ears. Very slowly, she lifted her head and looked around. She gaped as she shivered.
Cain was gone. His men was gone. They had vanished.
Now alone, Edie recalled all that had just occurred. She saw her parents dying in her mind over and over, flashing at her like a projector. She hurt below from the rape, wondering if she was still bleeding. In only minutes, her life had become nothing.
Edie thought of Cain’s words. She would remember him.. She’d remember him for the rest of her life, now. A life she was unsure she wanted. However, even so, Edie knew one thing. If her father had still been alive, he would tell her she needed to be strong.
It was little, but it was all Edie had now. As she weakly got to her feet, Edie carefully took one step forward, hoping that this step would lead her to a life she could accept. A life without that monstrous man flooding her mind.
