How I Deal
We all have ways we deal with the things in our lives.
Sometimes the way we deal isn't the best way to handle the problem
Sometimes we're just causing more hurt than help to ourselves
But we're too proud or scared or feel that we have no other option
They met under the bridge of the abandoned train station. The four boys stood and let their gazes pass from one to the other. And although they were all different in more ways than one, they were all the same. They each had a dirty little secret that ate away at their decaying insides and they needed to confess it, not just so they themselves could hear it, but so someone else would know too, so that the burden of carrying around their unclean sins would lighten, even if just for the moment.
They each took a seat on the filthy cement and formed a small circle. They sat close enough to each other that they were brushing up against one another, but they sat this way to keep their words between them and them alone. They didn't want their voices to carry in the wind to wondering ears. It had to stay between them, no one else would understand. No one would try to understand, they would just judge them.
Silence hung thickly between the boys, neither of them spoke a word or made a sound, not even the slight sound of their breathing could be heard. The only sounds present were that of the crying cicadas and crickets as night began to fall.
They were scared. Revealing their sins was a sin itself and each of them thought of the consequences that would result from their unholy union.
"I—I'll start I guess…" The shaky voice belonged to the curly red-headed boy. "My name's Carmen."
"Em…Emil…" The boy to the right of Carmen, who seemed drained of all life with his ghostly white skin, and silvery-blonde hair, spoke.
"Ban." Came the single word from the brunet whose long hair was shaved off on the sides and the rest was pulled back into a loose ponytail.
"I'm Joseph…" The last boy who resembled Emil with his snow white skin, but his eyes seemed sunken back into his skull and were surrounded by dark circles and his hair was a darker shade of blonde, whispered softly but audibly enough for the others to hear.
"Nice to meet you guys…" Carmen said, but there was nothing nice about this and they all knew that. "Well, my mom split about a year ago and my dad became a nasty alcoholic…and he started to get really violent with me…" he trailed off "It started with a smack across my face when I came home late from work one day and he was there drunk…then it progressed to kicks and punches and before I knew it I was popping pills to deal with the pain I'd feel later."
