Why her?
Why her?
This story and the characters are mine and mine alone.
The pub was crowded with people who came in for a drink after work. A mix of business men and women, and solicitors and barristers from the courts nearby. Jackie was here for the first time. She was a new clerk in the law firm of Nicols and this was the first Friday she accompanied the others to their favorite pub to have a few ‘TGIF-drinks’.
Jackie was in her mid-twenties and was what men would describe as a ‘sexy piece’. She described herself as hot, smoking hot. She had a gorgeous body with long legs, curves in all the right places and perfect boobs. Jackie was blessed with long dark hair, big brown eyes, a sexy smile and a voice full of promises.
She never had a problem getting the men she wanted. When she had her eye on a man, she got him.
And now she had her eye on Andrew Pennings, Drew to his friends and co-workers. He was about thirty five, and gorgeous. Tall, with a strong face and dark blue eyes and dark blond hair. Drew was one of the solicitors at Nicols. Jackie had looked at him once and had decided she wanted him. He was married, judging by the ring on his finger, but that did not matter to her.
And she thought it also did not matter to him much, either. Right now he was scanning the pub, looking at all the women. Checking them out, like a predator.
Jackie felt this was the time to make her move. She made sure she stood close to Drew and started to chat.
‘This is really nice, having a few drinks together before the weekend.’ she said.
Drew looked at her ‘Yes it is’ he agreed.
Andrew appreciated a fine looking woman, and this new girl was a pleasure to look at. He got a good look at her cleavage, and he had to admit he did enjoy that.
‘How did the first week go?’ he asked and Jackie smiled.
‘Very well, I feel at home already, everybody is so nice.’
‘This is a great group of people.’
Jackie nodded ‘I think so. And I think it is so important that people are… friendly to each other. I can also be very…friendly, to the… right person of course’. The tone of her voice was full of promises and seduction. She had her hand on Drew’s arm and stroked it a little, holding her body in such a way her cleavage became even more visible.
Drew swallowed, was this girl for real? He knew women and he knew what was offered to him. He could take this woman somewhere and fuck her, he was certain of that. If he would say to her ‘come with me’, she would come.
Jackie smiled at him and looked through her long eye lashes, she knew she had him. He wanted her, she could tell. After all, all men wanted her.
Drew smiled and Jackie almost cheered, yes, she scored. It was a broad smile full of joy. It was about ten seconds later Jackie realized there was something wrong. Drew smiled like a man who finally gets everything he ever wanted. And it was not aimed at her, it was aimed at a woman who just entered the pub. Jackie’s face fell.
‘Sorry, have to go.’ was all Drew said to Jackie, as he left the group and approached the new woman.
‘Hello, can I buy you a drink?’ he asked.
The woman looked at him.
‘Oh, I don’t know, I never take a drink from a stranger’. She said.
Drew smiled at her with all his charm ‘I am Andrew Pennings, and if you tell me your name, then we are not strangers anymore and you can take that drink.’ He held out his hand and with a soft laugh the woman took it.
‘Linda MacDermid’, she said.
‘See, no more strangers.’ Andrew moved in closer, sat down next to her. ‘What can I get you?’
‘If you insist, I’ll have a G&T please.’
‘Bartender, a G&T and a Whisky, same one as before’. Andrew ordered.
Jackie looked at them without comprehension. What had just happened? Andrew was hers and he left her, paid no more attention to her because of this woman? Jackie compared the herself to the woman and it made even less sense to her. The woman was not very tall, and to Jackie she looked very plain.
Linda MacDermid had a few freckles over the bridge of her nose and she had blonde hair that she wore in a chignon. An classy and timeless look, that suited her. She was wearing a grey trouser suit, with a white blouse. She was not very curvy, well, not compared to Jackie. Linda was definitely no sex-bomb.
And Jackie could not understand how Andrew Pennings, that gorgeous man, would ditch her, and choose that other woman. If he could have Jackie, with all her sex and promises, why would he choose somebody who looked like the ice-maiden?
The bartender brought the drinks to Andrew and Linda. Drew held his glass up to the blonde woman next to him.
‘So tell me, what is a beautiful woman like you doing in a place like this?’ he asked.
Linda looked at him as if she could not believe her ears and began to laugh.
‘What a horrible pick-up line. Does it ever work?’
Andrew grinned. ‘No, not really. But I like to stick to classics.’
Linda lifted an eyebrow ‘Oh.’ she said and sipped her drink.
Andrew also took a sip. ‘But really, what are you doing here?’ he asked her again.
‘I am waiting for my husband’.
‘You are married?’ he asked and sounded disappointed. ‘And he is keeping you waiting? What an idiot.’
Andrew took Linda’s hand and she did not pull it back. ‘If I were your husband, I would not keep you waiting.’ He said, in low voice.
He brought his hand to her face and tucked a lock of blonde hair behind her ear.
‘Somebody so beautiful deserves her husband’s full attention.’ He said.
Linda smiled at him, ‘Perhaps you could convince my husband of that’.
Andrew looked into her green eyes. He thought she was beautiful. Her smile was so lovely. He never met a woman with a smile like that, one that went straight to his heart.
He wanted to feel her soft skin. He brought her hand he was still holding to his lips and kissed the palm.
‘I know something that would convince him, let’s take a cab and get out of here.’ he said, his voice deep.
Linda cupped his face with her hand ‘I thought you would never ask.’ she smiled.
They both stood up and took their coats, made their way out of the door. Andrew had his arm protectively around Linda.
Jackie was stunned. What the hell just happened? This evening did not go as planned. Andrew was supposed to leave with her, and now he left with that blonde? Why her? Why that woman?
‘He, where is Drew?’ one of the others asked.
Jackie said: ‘He just left with a blonde woman he met.’
‘Oh, I did not even see Linda, what a pity.’ The other girl said. ‘You haven’t met her yet, have you? Linda is a lovely woman. So nice and it is great to see that Andrew is devoted to her. When she is in the room, it is if no other woman exists anymore. So sweet.’
Jackie looked at her with a blank stare. ‘But who is she then?’
The other girl laughed. ‘Silly, Linda is his wife of course, who else would she be?’
