Meetings
Warrior’s Heart
A/N: Ok, this was a dream I had, but the main characters Lillian and Rowan were me and my friend Isa. Other than that, everything is the same as my dream. Alright, well here we go. Also, the word ‘Demon’ doesn’t mean non human, it refers to the Advocates. They call them Demons because of how strong they are.

OOOOOO
Lillian had always known that she loved Rowan. She had grown up in a small town outside of the Wall. Out there, there was no violence, no men killing men. Lillian was the daughter of a farmer, who was son of another farmer, and so on and so forth. The village was small, never growing. There were no Devil’s Advocates; and there was no need for them. The Demons who could slay one hundred men were not needed in their peaceful village.
When Lillian was only 7 everything changed; the bandits came. They set fire to the houses and killed the men. They raped the women – defiled everything about them – before killing them too. Lillian’s mother had saved her and damned herself. The little girl with crimson hair had escaped the village; however, the evil men where on her heels. She knew she had no chance – her tiny legs couldn’t out run their powerful horses. Fear, panic, horror, all these emotions filled her as she tripped and fell, her breath leaving her in a startled gasp. Behind her she heard the hooves and clenched her eyes shut, waiting for the deadly blow. When it didn’t come, she opened her eyes and saw the most beautiful man – Demon – Advocate – she had ever seen.
His light blonde hair was waving in the wind; his eyes were bright green, glowing with power. His skin was light gold and, as the setting sun hit it, it was sent ablaze into a burning spectrum of golden hues. His sword was brandished and beneath him laid the bodies of the bandits. He turned his head towards her and his lips curled into a sad smile.
He had saved her and in that moment she had fallen in love with him. He brought her to another village, to another life, but she was never the same. She trained to become a Demon. Every day and every night, she pushed herself to the limits. There was a man in her new town, a man who Demons had trained with to be Advocates; she trained with this man for years, honing her skills. She wasn’t the best, but she was by far not the worst fighter.
Today was the day she would head inside the Wall to become an Advocate. She put her long hair up in a tight bun and looked over herself with a determined gleam in her eyes. Her foster parents were standing behind her, the woman smiling softly, the man scowling.
“I don’t know why you want to become a Demon, Lillian.” He said, turning his eyes away from her. “They are monsters.”
She rolled her eyes; she knew very well how much her foster dad hated Advocates. “They save lives. I need to do this; I can’t run away from my fate, you know that.”
The woman walked up to her and handed her a bag. “You stay safe, Lil.”
“I will,” Lillian knew it would be hard for her, being one of the few women Advocates. Her beauty was also her curse her foster mother had told her. The way her crimson red hair framed her narrow face, making her bright yellow eyes glow in an unearthly way; or the way her milky white skin was soft and succulent and shone in the bright moonlight. Harassment was sure to follow her as a Demon, but she knew she could handle it, defend herself. She had to if she ever wanted to see the man she loved again.
There was a knock on the door, shaking her from her thoughts. Her father went and answered it and she could hear whispered words coming from the next room. The voice of the other man made her pause, he heart beating rapidly in her chest. Her legs moved on their own accord own accord; idly, she realized she was trembling. As she turned the corner, her breath jammed in her throat as she caught site of blonde hair and green eyes. “It’s you,” She whispered, her voice stammering.
“Hello. You’ve grown.” He spoke, smiling gently to her. “I heard there was a beautiful Demon who just passed their initiation. When I heard the Demon had red hair, yellow eyes, and pale skin, I knew it would be you. I’m glad I was right.” He took her hand and placed a kiss across her knuckles.
“What is your name?” Her voice still was barely audible; she couldn’t even hear it over her heart, which felt as if it might burst.
He paused for a moment. “Rowan is what they call me now.” Demons changed their names upon initiation. “May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?” The words rolled off his tongue so smoothly, wrapping her in their spell.
“Jamie – I mean, Lillian.” She looked to the ground, a blush on her face. “After my mother.”
He nodded. “It is a wonderful name.” There was a long pause; he seemed to be thinking something over. Finally, giving a nod, he spoke, “I know it is unusual for Demons to be paired together right after initiation, but I am in need of a new partner in Junon. I know it is a long way from here, but I would like if you would fill the position.”
“I would love to!” She blurted out, cursing herself for her lack of discipline. Years of training for the day she would see him again, and she was acting like a school girl. “That is, if it is acceptable.”
He nodded. “My horse is outside. Do you need one?”
Lillian shook her head, a smile on her face. “My master told me if I passed the initiation I could have my pick of his; he supplies the finest steeds for the top Advocates.”
“Alright then.” He nodded to her foster parents. “I am assuming you were about to leave your parents?”
“Yeah!” She turned back to her foster parents, who were standing behind her now. “Sorry. This is the Demon who saved me when I was a child. He is the reason I wanted to become an Advocate.”
Her foster mom smiled gently at him. “Lillian speaks of you nonstop. You are a great Demon, and a great man. Saving a child who you did not know is such a kindness rarely seen in others.” It was a very high complement. Most people thought Demons to be heartless and cruel – Lillian herself thought the same until Rowan had saved her. Their power did not make them evil, she understood now. Only a dark heart could make someone act the way the bandits had that day.
“Your kindness is overwhelming and I thank you for it.” He said with a nod of his head. “I’m afraid we will have to leave though; I am expected back in three days times and it is a long trip.”
Her father cleared his throat. “Yes, we understand…Jamie,” He looked at the red head will fear in his eyes – fear for losing his only daughter. “Be careful. Your mother and I…” He choked up, “We love you very much.”
“I love you too,” she said, forcing her tears back, “And I assure you I will be alright. Especially with Rowan by my side.”
After a few more words, the pair headed out, Lillian stealing glances at her companion often. He had aged – she had expected this – but he was still young looking and very handsome. He didn’t look a day of 25. “Rowan…how old are you?” she asked, ignoring the scared stares of the people in her small town.
Rowan gave her a smile. “I am 31 this year. How about yourself? Though you’ve passed your initiation, it is hard for me to believe you meet the age requirements.”
Lillian felt a blush rise onto her cheeks and down her neck. “I’m 17! A year older than the required age, I’ll have you know!”
“Alright, alright, calm down.” They came upon a hut on the outskirts of town. “This is the place, right? You were talking about Master Zentu?”
She nodded. “Yep!” She smiled, knocking on the door before opening it, “Master Zenny! Are you home?”
An elderly man came around the corner into the living area. “Jamie.” He scowled disapprovingly, “I told you not to call me that in front of others. Who is the Demon?”
Once more, the red head felt herself blush bright in the face. “Sorry, Master Zentu. And it’s Lillian now. This is Rowan. He is the Demon who saved me, and my new partner.” She said, smiling at the taller man.
“I have heard tales of you, Rowan.” Zentu said, eyeing the Advocate. “You protected the Kijita High Lord in battle long ago, yes?” He put a finger to his chin, as if trying to remember something. “If I recall, you were only 14 at the time. The youngest Advocate in the history of the Agency, yes?”
Upon hearing this, Rowan froze slightly, eyeing the elder. “This is correct. I became a Demon at age 12. Protecting the Kijita High Lord was a task chosen for me by my father.”
Zentu turned back to his disciple. “I suppose you are here for a horse now that you have passed initiation. Come around back then.”
The horses residing in the farm were very powerful beasts. All were pure black with shining red eyes and strong long legs. Lillian already knew which she was going to chose – a horse she herself had raised with Zentu’s help. She walked around the animals easily, not scared when the leader stomped his hooves at her. “Riley.” She cooed, walking up to a young stallion. She held his head in her arms and rested her own against his snout. “I have missed you. Today is the day we set off.” The horse in turn bucked his head and nipped at her hair, making her giggle.
“Do you need a reins or a saddle?” Zentu asked, though he knew she would need none.
“No. Come on, Rowan, let’s go!” She called out, jumping onto the back of her horse. The beast eagerly trotted outside of the ranch to stand next to Rowan and his own pure white steed.
“He is magnificent.” Nodding his head to the elder, who returned the gesture, he mounted his carrier. “We will head north towards the city of Junon. Two days from now, we will pass through the Wall.”
“Do you have supplies?” She asked, feeling the itch in her veins to ride as fast as she could. She kept her horse walking.
Rowan nodded. “I have enough supplies for a week for two people.” He smiled at her. “I knew you would say yes.”
Lillian smiled back at him, her heart racing. “Let’s ride.” She called out before gently kicking the horses sides. It bucked, giving a loud call, before it sped past Rowan in a full sprint.
They ran the horses hard for hours. Lillian loved the way the wind pulled at her hair, whipping it around her body; they way Riley’s muscles rippled underneath his sin between her open legs; they way her fingers gripped the mane tightly, making her knuckles turn white. She loved everything about riding a horse – she connected to the animals in a way she couldn’t explain. At night fall, the demounted their carriers and chose to walk through a small town they came upon to seek lodging.
“You seem to enjoy riding.” Rowan spoke as they entered an inn’s barn. “It will be a shame when we get to Junon.”
Her eyes sparkled as she put Riley into a stable. “Yes, you have electric transportation behind the Wall, right?”
He smirked at her. “Cars, yes. But Advocates have a special barn for their traveling companions.” They chose a room, and the older Advocate sighed. “I miss electricity to tell the truth.”
At this, Lillian smiled. “But candles smell so much better. And we still have heated baths.”
“Yes, but I am used to showers.” He said with a teasing tone. “Speaking of baths, I believe I shall take one.” He grabbed some clothes out of a pack and smiled to her before heading out of the room and down the hall.
Lillian gave a confused look before smiling and shaking her head. She would have to buy clothing soon, having brought only a few. Yawning, she laid down on her bed and gave a sigh of relieve. Tomorrow, they would set out again, closer to the start of her new life as an Advocate.
