My Only Love

“Hitori… Hitori~~ Snap out of it!”

Hitori jumped when his wife snapped her fingers right in front of his face, shaking his head a bit as he looked down at her. “I’m sorry, Lalita.” He gave her the hug she’d been asking for, nuzzling into her neck lovingly with a small sigh. He held the slim body close to his own, taking it all in. Lalita had just confirmed that she was pregnant like they had been suspecting and it had made him think about an earlier time in his life. “I’m sorry… just, you saying that got me thinking about when I first went to live with Taz. Mama was pregnant when Papa first took me in.”

Lalita shook her head a bit then, just chuckling softly. “You’re always so spastic.” She reached up then, playing with Hitori’s hair then. “Sit down love, why don’t you tell me a few stories?” She was excited about finally having gotten pregnant after trying for over a year but… there was plenty of time to be bouncy later. Hitori didn’t get in the mood to tell her stories a lot. She’d heard about the beach party that had changed his life but… he hadn’t really gotten into details. Apparently, he felt like talking about himself was a selfish thing to do. “Please, Tori. I want to hear; won’t you indulge your preggy wife?”

Hitori sat down, carefully drawing Lalita down to set in his lap. His hands went to her stomach, a soft noise coming from his throat. “Ohhh, I can’t wait to see you all round.” It was really hitting him now… Lalita had just said she was pregnant. “There’s a little baby in there Lita… our little baby.” He pulled her a little closer then, nuzzling against her neck as he smiled, petting her stomach soothingly. “My baby…”

Lalita chuckle again, pulling Hitori up for a gentle kiss. “I’m aware of that love.” She nuzzled softly against his neck, just taking in the feeling of her stomach being petted. It really was nice… very nice. “It so very tiny right now…” She shifted a bit more then, carefully straddling his lap. “It will need a lot of love and attention.” She murmured, smiling when his hand automatically went back to her stomach. “As will I… won’t you tell me some stories?”

Hitori just petted the stomach gently, watching it like it would grow right under his fingertips. He would be spending a lot of time watching it… a lot. “Love and attention… I can do that.” He leaned forward to give her a kiss, taking a deep breath. “Stories… what would you like to hear about? I’ll tell you whatever you’d like to hear.” Anything for his wife and baby, he wasn’t going to let her down.

“Tell me about when you first met your Papa.” Lalita hummed softly as she nuzzled, the tune a song that she had just recently written. Hitori just loved to hear her songs so she was constantly writing new ones for him. “More about when you visited the beach.”

Hitori nodded softly then, his hand continuing to move in slow circles on Lalita’s still flat stomach. He really couldn’t wait to see it rounded; they had waited so long to have their own little baby. “Well, it happened just a few months after Midnight took over the orphanage.”

“Ok kids, we’re going on a field trip today!” Midnight smiled when he heard soft cheers from all around him, waving his hands to quiet down the ruckus. He didn’t mind that it took a while; it was so nice to hear the children happy. They had been through so much in the corrupt orphanage before he’d taken over. “Ok, ok calm down now, let me explain. You all met my friend Lazriel just a couple weeks ago, remember?” There was another round of noise filled with ‘yes’ and ‘we remember’ before he calmed down the young children again.

“All right, well the dragons have generously opened their beach for you to play in.” He chuckled at the bouncing and cheers, shaking his head a bit. The kids really were so excitable. They had all been frightened when they had first discovered that the ‘dragons’ were actual dragons but they seemed to have all gotten over it. “Ok, quiet!” He chuckled again then, shaking his head a bit. “We’re heading out in four days so, Cissy and Hideo are going to be taking you out in small groups to get swimsuits. If you don’t behave, we can cancel the trip so, you’ll all be good, right?”

Of course they all agreed.

“I’ve heard this part of the story, Tori. I want to know how you met Taz, please tell me.” Lalita pouted again then, shifting a little into Hitori’s lap and looking as cute as she possibly could. It had always worked before in getting her what she wanted… she was sure that it would work this time.

Hitori just nodded then, leaning forward to give Lalita a soft kiss. “Ok, I’ll tell you how we met then. I was swimming when I met Papa.”

The four year old was splashing in the water, sitting just far enough out that the cool liquid lapped at his chest. Hitori’s russet red hair was already damped down from being dunked under the water by Midnight earlier on in the day. He’d went a bit away from the group then, giggling as he played with the fish that came close enough to tickle at his legs and feet. It was one of those fish that distracted him enough for him to go out further into the water. He stood up and toddled after the large fish, not even noticing that he was wading too far out into the water.

No one noticed until it was too late.

The crying noise drew everyone’s attention, multiple bodies running towards the flailing boy. Taz was the first one to get there, not even hesitating as he lifted the boy right out of the water and into his arms. “Shhh, I have you little one, cough up the water.” He rubbed his back a little then, rocking him in his arms as he got Hitori to evacuate the water that was choking him. He wasn’t even supposed to have been there… the dragons had invited him last minute asking him to cook the food for the little kids. He was really glad he had come now.

Midnight approached them then, reaching up towards Hitori. “I’m sorry Taz, I know you didn’t want to get in the water, just give him to me, I’ll take care of him.” He carefully touched Hitori around the waist, tugging on him a little to try to get him out of Taz’s arms.

Taz just chuckled a bit, rubbing Hitori’s back when the grip around his neck only got tighter. “I don’t think he’s letting go, Midnight.” He shifted Hitori just a bit in his arms, keeping him cuddled close as he walked to the shore. He was a cat; after all, he really didn’t like being wet. “I’ll take him up to the house and get him dried off, he can keep me company in the kitchen, ok? He’s clinging pretty tight; I don’t think he wants to be near the water.”

“Awwww, you almost drowned? Poor boy.” Lalita snuggled against Hitori then, playing with his hair softly. “I see why you don’t like water now.” She gave him a soft kiss before speaking again, just smiling softly. “So, that’s how you met him? It’s cute. When did he decide to adopt you? You went back to the orphanage after that, right?”

“No, I never went to the orphanage again.” Hitori smiled, the memory a good one even thought he was scared when it first happened. He hadn’t wanted to be away from Taz after being saved by him. “You see, Papa took me to the kitchen and I stayed there all day with him. It was when we were about to leave that he surprised me, I’ll never forget it.”

“Taz, we’re leaving, where is Hitori?” Midnight had gotten all the other kids on the bus and he wanted to talk to the little red haired boy. He’d wanted to give him as much time alone with Taz as possible since it seemed to be doing good for the boy. He’d never been so open with anyone before and he was glad he had a good surprise for the orphan. “Taz?”

Taz shrugged a bit, chuckling as he looked into the kitchen. “Ohhh, I don’t know.” He shook his head when he saw Hitori peek around the corner of the island before hiding again. “I think he’s playing hide and seek. Hitori, come on out now, we need to go home.”

Hitori peeked out again when Taz spoke but, instead of going to Midnight like he was supposed to, he ran right up behind Taz and clung to his pants, hiding behind his legs. “I don’t wanna…” He sniffled a bit when he said it, burying his face in the back of Taz’s legs. “I wanna stay with Taz!”

Midnight awed softly as he kneeled down to his knee’s on the floor, reaching his hand out. “I’m not taking you away from Taz baby, didn’t you hear him? You’re going home with him. I just want a hug goodbye.”

Hitori sniffled a bit again, reaching up to rub his eyes before he looked up at Taz. “Going… Going home with you?” He wiped once more at his eyes before speaking again, clinging even tighter to his leg. “Are you going to be my Papa?”

Taz smiled softly then, kneeling down carefully to ruffle Hitori’s hair. “Yes, I’m going to be your Papa, we’ve both spent enough time alone.” He leaned forward then, pressing a soft kiss against his little boy’s forehead. “Now go give Midnight a hug before he gets sniffly. We’ll go home after that.”

“You sound so cute as a little boy.” Lalita was teasing a bit as she spoke, chucking as she patted the others cheek. “Hmmm, seems like Taz was always meant to be your papa.” She leaned their foreheads together, just closing her eyes as she thought. “Tell me something else… like… what do you remember most about growing up with him?”

Hitori hummed softly at that, cuddling against Lalita. “God… there’s so many things to remember.” He kissed her while he thought, enjoying this little moment of cuddling and talking. It was just amazing that after so much hardship so early in his life he got to have something as good as this. “There were so many things he did for me that were amazing, he sent me to school, he taught me to cook, and he even bought me a horse so I could learn to ride it. I hadn’t even gotten out a high school and he did something like that for me, he was… is such an amazing father. Even now he’ll give me anything I ask for… even if he shouldn’t or can’t afford it…”

“He is an amazing man.” Lalita murmured, rubbing their cheeks together much like cats would do. She could tell just how much Hitori loved Taz just by the way he spoke. She loved her own father just as much. “Tell me about the horse, baby. You never told me how you got it.”

“I can do that.” Hitori turned then, tumbling Lalita back on the couch before he cuddled up to her, laying his hand back on her stomach. “Well, you see. It was my sixteenth birthday. He’d already gotten me a car and a tv and everything else I could have wanted. Nakai was so jealous already, you know how little siblings are, and then Papa found out my obsession with horses. Mama told me that he dropped everything to find me a horse. It was just amazing. It happened right after I came home from driving my car for the first time.”

“Ohhh my god, Papa! This car is so amazing!” Hitori was just about bouncing as he ran back into the house, waving his keys around. It might have just been a beat up old car but he loved it. He’d never expected to have anything like it and Taz had given him the car like it was nothing. “I went to see Lalita and she was soooo head over heels.” He bounced a little then, smiling as he looked up at Taz. “I think I might have a chance with her Papa, god, she’s just amazing.”

“You never told me you liked me when you were sixteen.”

“Shhh Lita, let me tell my story.” Hitori was a little embarrassed he’d said that but… well, it was about time she knew. “It wasn’t a new thing, even then.”

“I’m sure you do, Hitori. I take it you had a good time with her.” Taz ruffled Hitori’s hair when he nodded happily, not able to stop his own smile. Spoiling Hitori was so worth it when he got to see him like this. “Well, your birthday’s not over yet, little one. Come on, you have one more present.”

“Not over? You’ve already given me so much Papa. What else could you have?” Hitori laid his keys on the table then, following Taz to the back door. “Ohhh, I told Lalita that she could steal some of the left over cake for her mama since he couldn’t come today. His stomachs been all upset, I think he might be pregnant again.”

“Well, Lazriel would just love that.” Taz murmured, grabbing his sons hand and pulling him towards the back door. “Leiko will too, you know it. He’s wanted another baby with Lazriel for a long time. Now come on, it’s time to give you your last present.”

Hitori just nodded, still thinking about Lazriel and Leiko having another little baby. They already had Lalita and her little brother, they’d always wanted a lot of babies and they seemed to be working on it. “Leiko will be so cute preggy, won’t he? He’s just so tiny I can just…” He trailed off when he saw what was waiting outside, his eyes wide as he looked up at Taz. “It… it’s a…” He stuttered for a few moments, looking very much like a fish out of war before he suddenly took off.

“It’s a horse! You got me a horse?!” He ran around the horse, just looking it over before he patted the horse’s snout, pretty much vibrating as he stood there. He was just so excited. “You really got me a horse? God, it’s so pretty, it’s really mine?”

“She.” Taz murmured, stepping forward towards the animal. “Yes, she’s really yours.” He patted the horse’s head then, just smiling softly. “We even have a saddle for you in the garage, would you like to try her out?”

“Are you kidding?! Of course I want to try her out!” Hitori bounced a bit more then, wiggling as he moved away from the horse, almost running right into Nakai. “Did you see little brother? He got me a horse!”

Nakai pouted a bit then, looking up at Hitori before up at Taz. “Do I get a horse, Papa?”

Taz just chuckled, smiling as he knelt down beside the eleven year old. “I’ll get you one when you’re old enough to get on it by yourself.”

Lalita chuckled a bit then, leaning up to kiss Hitori again. “That is so adorable, did Nakai get his horse?”

“He sure did.” Hitori murmured, patting her stomach again. “Lani, my horse, was fertile so when Nakai was getting big enough, we got her pregnant. Nakai now has Lani’s little baby as his horse. It was gross seeing him born but Nakai loves that horse.”

“I’m sure he does.” Lalita wrinkled her nose as she thought about a horse giving birth, which made her think of when she would give birth. It was really too soon to think about that. “Ok, one more story.” She wiggled a bit as she nuzzled, keeping her hands on Hitori at all times. “Tell me your best memory, the one you cherish the most.” She figured it would be when he met Taz, it always made Hitori so happy to talk about it.

“Ohh, that one’s easy.” Hitori murmured, leaning down to kiss Lalita before speaking again. “I was eleven years old and it seemed like such a normal day, well, it was kind of a day I was dreading. But, now I know that, that day was the greatest day of my life.”

“Come on Hitori, we’re all going to the beach.” Taz kneeled down in front of the boy, reaching up to touch his chin. “It will be ok, there will be other kids there and you don’t even have to go in the water.”

Hitori pouted a bit, crossing his arms over his chest. “I don’t want to go to the beach Papa… I don’t like the water.”

Taz just shook his head, pulling Hitori forward a bit. “It will be ok baby; we’re just going to the beach. If it bothers you too bad, we’ll just go and stay in the house like we did last time.”

“Okay… I guess I’ll go…”

“You were dreading it and it turned out to be the best day of your life? How does that work?” Lalita was confused, when she was dreading something, it never turned out good.

“Just keep listening Lita, it will make sense soon.”

“Just come down to the beach for a couple minutes, Hitori. Lazriel has someone he wants you to meet.” Taz was holding Hitori’s hand then, pulling him towards the beach. “Come on, it’s ok. We can come back just as soon as you meet them.”

Hitori was hesitant but he went along with Taz, holding onto him when they got close to the water. He bit his lip when he approached Lazriel, just seeing the little girl peeking out from behind his legs. He leaned forward to get a closer look, jumping when Lazriel reached back and pulled the child forward, letting Hitori see her better.

“Hello Hitori.” Lazriel murmured, touching the little girls hair. “I have someone I’d like you to meet. This is Lalita.”

“It’s a simple memory and it seemed so normal but… it’s still the best. If there was only one thing I could remember… I would want it to be that.” Hitori blushed a bit then, reaching up to mess with his hair.

“The best day of your life was meeting me?” Lalita asked, blushing as she took a deep breath. “Really?”

“I didn’t know it then but… yes. Meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to be Lalita.” Hitori reached down to touch her cheek then, giving her a gentle, loving kiss. “But today might just trump that soon.” He touched her stomach then, still thinking solely about the little baby growing there.

“You’re such a sap.” Lalita was teasing but… it really did get to her. It made her feel so beyond special to have been such a big part of Hitori’s life. “Have you liked me since you were eleven? You didn’t even tell me until you were eighteen!”

“Well… yeah… I was shy…” Hitori brushed his hair again then, taking a deep breath. “You were my first love… my only love.”

“Such a sap.” Lalita said again, sticking her tongue out before kissing him again. “But I love you too, I always have.”

Hitori smiled then, pulling her close. “Then I was your only love too?” It would make him feel beyond happy if that was the case. He’d been head over heels for the musical girl since the first time he’d seen her.

“Yes, you were.” Lalita smiled softly after that, leaning up to kiss him with a soft, happy sigh before she spoke again. “My only love.”
