Sitting at the desk in his office, a tall man sighs softly lost in his thoughts. Place before him an invitation to a wedding beams at him. It came a friend he hasn’t seen in so long close to seven years ago if he remembers correctly. He begins to wonder how she’s doing. Did she make it as a chef as she dream from all the time he known her. Or does she have her own restaurant?

He rub his chin in thought feeling the hint of stumbles. He’ll shave later on or in a while. Lexie, that name can easily send shivers down his arms and back. He muffles a groan as heat head straight to his groins. Her soft lips full and beg to be kiss by him. Her blondish brown hair cut to the shoulder length when he prefers it when it was longer. He, Marshal Avery Anderson is in love with his childhood friend and never had the guts to tell her. Already twenty-six and in charge of his own company thanks to a small inheritance from a grandparent he never known. He started with nothing in his life and should be proud of his accomplishments.

Already known to New York as the year’s eligible Playboy Bachelor thanks to reading the news paper. Its nice having a rich life to poor almost middle class he live through till the age of eighteen. He left everything behind in his old life including the girl he loves.

Marshal could still remember the last time he saw her. Standing in the rain in front of her grandmother’s grave crying. She ran in anger after an argument that dealt with her other grandmother and bitch of a sister also known as her aunt. He remember trying to call her only to learn her cell phone turn off. He begins to think of the changes of his past that made the things happen.

*flashback*

-Seven years ago-

A teen walks in the doors of his high school glad it’s the last day with a smile upon his lips. A perfect day for him since its going to be graduation. Good-bye to being mildly popular and cliché groups. He jumps at the feeling of a hand on his shoulder. He glance over to see his best friend in the world smiling at him.

Standing at her full height of 5’4, Lexie chuckles at Marshal’s annoy expression. Already use to his attitude ever since he transfers to the town’s elementary school in the first grade. Her blonde bangs fall into her mahogany orbs. He could see the happiness sparkle in her eyes along with a hint of pain. It left him wondering if she had another argument with her father

“Hey Marsh,” She quips gazing around for their other friends before settling to open her locker.

Marshal scowls watching her grab the books she needs for the next three periods. Always prepared. Its smart of her though annoying habit at the same time. His turquoise eyes rakes over her body. Slightly on the overweight side with curves at the right places. Just a normal looking girl. He’s not that picky when it comes to woman’s figures rather the personality.

He gazes away before she notice him look at her. Figure she would try to see if the others have arrive or not. His eyes narrows at the sight upon one of the people he’s acquainted with because of Lexie walks towards them. He grins as his jade eyes twinkle.

“Hey Marshal, Lexie.” He says stressing out Lexie’s name.

Rolling her eyes closing her locker, Lexie smirks at him stressing his name. “Hey Eric. You still owe me ten bucks from the bet.”

Eric laughs pulling out a box from his jacket. He ignores the glare Marshal gives him. What an idiot. He only stands the other for Lexie’s sake. Other then that he despise the closeness between the two friends. He hands over the box then place a chaste kiss on her cheeks. Lexie trembles feeling heat rush to her cheeks.

She opens it to find a rose shape locket with an “A” engrave in front of it. Her heart stops in her chest before starting back up. She opens the locket to find it empty. She smiles at Eric giving him a big hug trying to find the right words to say.

“Eric I don’t know what to say.” She whispers gazing at him shyly pulling away from him.

Eric lightly touches her cheek sending shivers down her spine. “No words need, Alex.”

Lexie smiles dazedly feeling her books and bag be taken by Eric as he walks to class. She stares until he walk into their classroom. She begin to wonder what it be like be with him. Marshal watches the display. Growling darkly he already knows how Eric thinks. He’s only playing around with his friend’s heart.

He shakes her gently calling to her softly. “Snap out of it Lex.”

Lexie leans against him sighing wistfully knowing Eric is mostly flirting with her as usual. She ask quietly as the bell rings signally the start of class. “Will I find him?”

Marshal’s mouth dries up along with the hope in his chest. He think carefully of his words. She deserve someone to cherish her as a person. Not a fling or anything like that. He hugs her gently whispering in her ear. “You’ll find him.”

He pulls away not once seeing the disappointed look. Lexie mentally shakes hear head. Why did she wish Marshal to keep holding her a bit longer? He feels warm and comfy. She could have easily snuggle closer to fall fast asleep.

“Lest go to class,” She replies heading in the same direction as Eric did earlier.

Marshal stares impatiently at the clock wishing it would move faster. Only one more class till this day is over. His life can easily be put behind him. His eyes moves away from the clock as the door opens to show a teacher he’s not familiar with.

“Ms. Wheeler please come to the office.”

Something about the words in bother Marshal as Lexie gathers her things. The sad look in the eyes got him curious. Did something happen to one of her family members? He watch his best friend give a small smile before following the teacher.

As soon the door close, Marshal begin recounting the minutes. It didn’t help its near the end of class. What’s going on? The usual chatter near end of the period resumes. The teen fidgets wishing he could have gone with her. At least if he did he wouldn’t have worried as bad.

The bell rings fifteen minutes later only to have the tall teen run out of the classroom. A part of him hopes everything is alright. To his disappointment she wasn’t in their last class either. He sighs softly as one of his other classmates give him an understanding smile. He gives a half-hearted smile.

Eric watches Marshal with hate fill eyes. A total of four periods with the fucking ass. Same with Lexie or also known as Alexandria. He wonder what the deal was for not being in the class. There has to be a way to get Marshal out of the picture. A smirk touches his lips thinking of the perfect way. The whole town knows how off Marshal’s family is. All he has to do is pull a few strings to have the other out of his hair and leave the sleepy town they live in. In the process would hurt Lexie and leave her confuse on the reason. Just the perfect opportunity to win her affections.

Marshal never been thankful to hear the bell as he rushes out of the class. He dash all the way to the office not expecting to see his friend crying. He could see her mother have tears in her eyes while her father just rolls his eyes as he tries not to scoff.

He moves forward to hear Lexie whisper ignoring the tears rolling down her cheeks. “She’s gone.”

Marshal sighs hugging her knowing this isn’t what she needs right now. Her own grandmother has been a strong woman but a strange cold left her in the hospital for a while. He murmurs softly to her knowing it won’t do any good. She just needs someone to just hold her while she release the pain in her heart.

-Four days later-

Marshal finds himself running through the rain. The grim look in eyes as he gaze around the cemetery for his friend. He could make out the muffle sobs near a new grave. His heart stop in his chest. The need to protect her beats at him.

“Lexie.” A simple whisper alerts the woman as she stares at her friend.

The obvious site of the distress breaks his heart. He didn’t bother to ask what happen as she mutters harshly. “My father and the bitch of an aunt again.”

He nods hugging her holding her close. He whispers in her ear. “I’ll be there when you need me.”

She stares at him with her huge brown eyes tears brimming. “You promise?”

“I promise.” Marshal echoes softly.

*end of flashback*

He shook his head getting rid of the memories growling softly. He reads the names feeling his heart bumble around the dark abyss. Eric Harrison and Alexandria Wheeler. The bastard is the one Lexie going to marry?! His eyes darken with hatred for the other. He glance at his upcoming schedule find it clear for couple weeks. Yes it will give him enough time. When is the blessing day? He reads the date. June 24? He scowls knowing Lexie would have like a fall or winter wedding.

He gets off the chair leaving his office in a rush. He wonder if there is a message on his answer machine at his flat. his lips quirk at the idea of having someone waiting for him. Ready to listen to his day as he would with her. Only one person he wish to do that with, Lexie but never did. Maybe there is a chance for him to show her his feelings and stop her from making the big mistake from her life.

He gets in his silver Volvo wanting to go back to his place quickly. He doesn’t want to deal with any more people at the moment. He has a lot to think about. Maybe some scotch would do also. No he had to keep a clear head and see if she has the same number. He found himself cursing softly seeing traffic even late at heavy. Grinning suddenly he takes a short cut making it under the usual twenty minutes to his flat. he parks in the garage heading to the elevators.

He kept running his fingers through his auburn color hair thinking more of her. He growls thinking of Eric being able to hold her. Touch her. Jealousy bubbles in his veins at the thought. To kiss her every single day. He groans muttering softly. “I’m over thinking this.”

He opens the door barely noticing the note on it. He briefly glance at it before tossing it on the table inside. He heads to the phone pressing the button seeing he has some messages.

“First message: Hi Marshal its me Lexie. I’m not sure if you got the invitation. It been a long time since we last saw each other has it…. *sighs* Well I’m in town so call when you have the chance.”

Marshal stares at the answering machine not hearing the rest of the messages. Only hearing Lexie’s voice cause him to shiver. It has been to long. He tries over and over to forget his old life much as possible. Though now it may be harder then he thought. The feelings he push away disappear only to resurface at the invitation and now hearing her voice. He blinks remembering she said in town. Could she be staying where he’s living? He has a penthouse and the rest of the floors are rooms to rent out.

A few minutes later a tentative knock gets Marshal to glare at the door. Grumbling something about neighbor downstairs he opens the door ready to snap to see a woman standing their looking at him. Her mahogany brown eyes widen at the sight of him. Her blondish-brown hair pick up in a simple ponytail. Her mouth drops open and he had a feeling his did to. He recognize those eyes anywhere. Could it be her?

“Lexie?” He breathes out hesitantly.

Lexie grins feeling tears form at the corner of her eyes. The urge to hug Marshal swamps her. Things with Eric hasn’t been going all that great. She sighs softly hoping the bruises she feels on her body won’t show up. The other has a tendency to beat her and sleep with other women constantly. She doesn’t want to marry him at all but he threaten to destroy all her hard work in the restaurant she created with her own two hands.

Marshal looks over her seeing a hint of bluish purple at the side of her cheek. He touches it gingerly feeling her wince. His eyes narrows as he ask seriously. “He doesn’t hurt you right?”

He hope Eric isn’t the one who is abusing Lexie. If he is the man is more then dead. She flinch at the touch confirming Marshal’s suspicion. Tears rolls down her cheeks fearing what Eric will do now.

“He’s not going to hurt you anymore Lex.” She heard him tell her.

Her eyes widen with fear as she says quickly before covering her mouth. “You don’t understand! He’ll destroy my business if I don’t marry him!”

Marshal’s eyes harden at the words. “That’s the marriage about.” He questions keeping his voice calm not to scare the woman more.

“Yes.” She whispers hopelessly staring at her feet thinking of her friends and employees.

“Hey everything be alright I promise.” He tells her softly not once expect her to glare at him with cold eyes.

He takes a few steps back as she roars at him. “Promise?! Where did you go when I need you? No where. You disappeared off the planet I nearly gave up until I found out about your company in New York!”

“Lex listen to me.” he pleads while the woman backs away from him. He couldn’t stand the sight of the tears running faster.

He goes over to her and holds her tight. She thrashes around accidentally grinding against him. Marshal stifles a moan feeling himself harden. His breathing begin to ragged as she stops stiffening up feeling something poke her. Heat flush to her cheeks recognizing what happen. She tries to move away but gets pull back once more.

He whispers in her ear, his breath fans over the shell of her ear causing shivers down her spine. “God you are beautiful as ever. I’m a fool not to tell you that before.”

Confuse she glance at him over her shoulder until she’s twirl around to face him. She moans as he pushes her against the wall. He smirks at her reaction before kissing her forehead. He continues answering her silent question. “I’ve been in love with you for a long time. I don’t know when but always have. You should have been mine. No you are mine.”

Lexie’s eyes darken at the possessiveness in his voice. She like the idea of being only his. This surprise her. Did she always like Marshal more then a friend? A small voice in her mind whispers, yes. She sighs berating herself for being an idiot not realizing it sooner. She could feel Marshal tilt up her head kissing the tip of her nose as his breath fans across her face..

:”Silly girl.” He smiles down at her, brushing her bangs away.

She gives him a mock glare before smiling at him. She yelps being kiss deeply and passionately. The desire she wish to have with Eric roars to life just being in Marshal’s arms. Heat licks at the pit of her stomach as she moans his name in his mouth. She allows him access to taste her. His fingers trials down her sides gently making soft moans pass her lips at the touch. Her head hit the back of the wall allowing the fingers to go beneath her shirt cupping her breast.

He brush his fingers against the nipples enjoying the feel of them harden beneath his ministrations. Her moans sounds music in his ears. She continues to shiver at the touch trying to think rationally. The weight of her engagement ring feels heavier on her hand. Sighing softly she place a hand on Marshal’s chest trying to ignore the feel of muscle beneath the shirt he’s wearing.

“I’m engage Marshal.” She whispers moving her gaze from the other.

Marshal sighs softly pulling his hands away. He watch the confuse look drift in her eyes. The need is there along with fear. It would take some time for her not to be afraid of him. He smiles lovingly earning a hesitant smile.

“We can take our time.” He answers kindly. “You don’t have to marry Eric.”

Lexie stares at the man before her with an almost pleading look. She remember the reception is tomorrow while the wedding is a week a way. She want to ask how. Her legs turn to jelly at the look of protectiveness in his eyes as he continues. “I’ll help you with your business.”

She smiles gratefully knowing the truth. The regret of doubting Marshal remember his promise evaporates. Nodding quickly she hugs him not able to find the words to speak.. He returns the hug pushing down the need to take her at the moment. He smirks as she moves closer on her own giving a pleasant sigh.

Marshal glance around seeing its close to midnight he smiles seeing the sleepy look in his love’s face. He kiss the top of her forehead brushing her soft locks away. He couldn’t bare making her leave. He scoops her up getting her to blink hazily at him.

“You are going to have to sleep here for the night. I promise I won’t push any farther then earlier.” He whispers softly feeling her nod in his chest.

He places her gently on his bed before spooning behind her. He wait for a while till the sign of her soft snores reaches his ears. He smiles a few minutes snuggling her close to him. Whatever comes next it be nothing compare to having her back in his life.

Lexie found herself wondering if she made the right choice as she watch the sun outside the window. She glance over her shoulder to stare at the sleeping figure of her best friend. The thought of him loving her surprise her but at the same time it didn’t. She had suspicions after he left a few weeks after graduation. He didn’t bother to say bye or anything. She had to grow up fast.

She very thankful to the chef that apprentice her and took over his restaurant as his highest pupil. It bother her a little that she never made it to college or culinary school. She shakes her head clearing her mind up. She takes a few hesitant steps towards the door when his voice stops her in her tracks.

“Going somewhere?” Marshal drawls out sleepily staring at his love who gives a guilty smile.

“Yeah to break the engagement with Eric.” Lexie responds trying not to stare to long at the broad chest she wish to run her fingers all over.

Marshal laugh seeing the desire swarming in her eyes. He wants their relationship to take time not rush for the need. He gets up grabbing a clean shirt following the other out the door willing to go along with her. So he’s wearing the same pants from the night before he doesn’t care. He wraps an arm comfortingly around her as they go down the elevator hailing down a taxi.

Giving the address of the hall for the wedding reception Lexie remains quiet. Silently worry what will happen now. In a few hours she’ll be free from Eric’s clutches. She drew out of her thoughts as a knock on the window gets her attention. She stares into the green eyes backing into Marshal subconsciously. The angry look in the orbs frightens her. She’s really going to get it once she’s alone with Eric.

She opens the door just as Eric hisses at her raising a hand. “Where have you been bitch?”

“I’ve meet up with a friend and spent the night at their house.” She answers quickly squeezing her eyes shut not willing to see the hand strike her.

Marshal grabs Eric’s hand growling at him. “Don’t you dare lay a hand on her.”

Eric stiffen at the sight of Marshal. The other got taller and stronger. Gone the gawky geeky look to a handsome man that could have a lot of women in his bed. At the thought gets him angrier. He hasn’t been able to take Lexie since she kept saying to wait. He had to find pleasure in other sources.

He glares coldly snapping at him. “Don’t tell me what to do with my fiancée.”

Lexie finally having enough of being scared of Eric yells at him. “I don’t want to marry you Eric!”

“What about your business then? It would go to ruins and leave you nothing left.” Eric taunts.

Lexie’s eyes fill up with tears thinking of her friends and employees that became her family back home. She didn’t say a word. She didn’t expect Marshal to announce seriously. “I’ll pay for everything to have Lexie in charge of her restaurant. You heard her asshole. She doesn’t want to marry you and better leave her alone or I’ll kill you.”

Eric backs off giving one last look to Lexie snarling at her before stalking off. He shouts in a distance. “I’ll get my revenge on you Alexandria. You will be mine!”

Lexie shakes her head smiling gratefully at Marshal. “Thank you.”

“No problem” He answers simply leading her away from the hall as the audience standing cheers happily for the former bride. They wave to Lexie calling out to her with words of encouragement.

“Don’t let that ass get to you!”

“Have fun with your true love Girl. You truly deserve it.”

Lexie blush darkly at the words while Marshal laughs then kisses her deeply then whispers in between kisses. “I did promise you I’ll be there.”

“You did,” Lexie answers kissing Marshal her heart beating with happiness.
