If I Was The Last Girl...

Notes: Just so you know, this is my first time writing this kind of narrative, and about solom stuff, so go easy on me... more stuff coming soon, hope you enjoy the first chapter :) The comedic narrative is intended to keep the reader from feeling down about the whole end of the world thing...

All he remembered was shaking, uncontrollable and very uncomfortable shaking. He didn’t remember falling from his bed, ending up on the floor alone and cold, he just ended up there. As his eyes opened slowly and his hands felt up and down his barely clothed body Sam groaned at the pain in his head as if his protests would make it vanish.

“What the fuck?” He asked the ground below him, the question was also addressed to the ceiling above him, and the bed he’d fallen from. “What the fuck?” He asked again, with more urgency. He rolled onto his side, feeling the warm and fuzzy carpet stroke his skin. He didn’t remember drinking so he knew something major had happened, he just didn’t know what exactly that was. He slid his hand down his boxers and felt an already hard erection, guessing he’d had a pretty good dream he rubbed his palm up and down it, groaning slightly as a buzz of pleasure hit him, he pumped his hand a little faster, forgetting all about the confusion and worry he'd felt before and melting into a world of sexual pleasure.

Now at this point I feel the need to remind you that Sam was not an intelligent boy, the night before he’d been at a party, nervous and awkward he’d sipped on beer and avoided dancing while his eyes stayed transfixed on a crazy brunette with a bit of an attitude problem. Sam had known Mimi for years now, since high school, which was almost over and all the time he’d known her she’d been just a single, slightly weird girl...until the summer before this one. Finding out that Mimi had a boyfriend had turned his stomach, he’d felt sick and immediately hated Kyle. Kyle was a year older than him, he had a decent paying job and a car and liked to take Mimi out and show her off to all of his friends despite the fact the poor lad was gay, confused and only she didn’t see it. Eventually he broke her heart and she fell into a relationship with a boy Sam could only describe as ‘A complete and utter wanker’ which didn’t work out well for anybody, much to the slight glee of Mimi’s best friend Princess, who had only been known as Princess for as long as everyone had known her. Anyway, Mimi was single again, and Sam had finally realised that the stabs of jealousy and random bursts of hatred towards her boyfriends meant that he liked her as more than a friend so he planned to ask her to be his girlfriend and simply because she’d asked first, he freaked out and said no. As I said, Sam wasn’t the smartest of boys.

Our slightly confused and distracted ‘hero’ and I use the term hero loosely lay quietly, breathing in and out and attempting to recover from his climax, there was no sound around him and a slight awkwardness filled the atmosphere as he wiped a semen covered hand on the carpet and smiled in satisfaction. It took him a few seconds to realise his phone was vibrating by his head, grabbing it and sitting up he quickly pushed his finger against the green telephone button and gave a small grunt of a greeting.

“Sam?” He felt his heart fluttering and wondered if he was falling ill, as I said, he’s no Oxford graduate. “Thank God I got through to you.” He heard her sigh at the other end and another flutter hit his heart, which despite the apparent lack of brains, normally compensated. Sam was a bit dim, but he tried to be nice, which often served him well.

“Mimi, what’s wrong?” He heard another sigh, slightly aggravated and annoyed, imagining that Mimi was rolling her eyes at him Sam grabbed a pair of jeans from the bed behind him and pushed himself from the ground using the bed for leverage.

“Didn’t you hear that message?” Shaking his head he frowned, wondering what she meant and rubbing his forehead with the hand that held the jeans and taking a deep breath. “It’s only us.”

“What?” He was even more confused now, it didn’t take a lot but this was just ridiculous, he put the jeans back on the bed and sat on top of them, looking blankly at the floor.

“It’s all so sad.” The blank look turned to a look of complete and utter puzzlement then as Sam’s brain decided it could comprehend no more and begged for help.

“I don’t understand.” He said bluntly, wishing he hadn’t immediately afterwards. He hated looking stupid in front of Mimi, but it happened too often for his liking. She was an intellectual who read Shakespeare for fun and he had failed GCSE English three times, she was bound to think low of him, surely.

“It’s ok.” Perhaps not. He could tell she was smiling, there was just a certain way her voice went, it was slightly bright and chirpy. Despite his lack of knowledge about... well, anything and the fact he’d rejected her quite coldly the night before, Mimi still seemed to like him. “Well not really...” She wasn’t smiling anymore, he heard her sniffing a little and guessed she was crying. “There all gone Sam.” She explained, her voice muffled slightly as she wept. “Everyone is dead.” His brain simply refused to take it in, I can only guess it was a safety precaution installed on the brains of slightly simple boys who probably can’t comprehend big pieces of news. “Sam, did you hear me?” His brain suddenly opened up and swallowed the information and he wondered what he should think. His first thought was sadness, it was normal to be sad when the entire human race was dead, surely. “It’s just us left.” Then he felt optimistic, there was no more of Mimi’s ex boyfriends to stand in his way. “Just us...” She was crying again. He felt sadness, his mum was dead.

“So it’s just us?” He asked, his voice slightly hopeful, slightly disappointed. “Just us left?” He thought of his mum, wondering if it had hurt.

“Yes.” She’d stopped crying now, which was good because Sam had never known how to handle crying girls. “Is it ok if I come round?” She lived next door, so he wasn’t sure why she’d bothered phoning rather than just coming round but all the same he nodded and replied quietly.

“Yeah, I’ll put the kettle on.”
